As one of the leading new gen shonen series, Jujutsu Kaisen has proved that its here to stay, following the series’s great features. Written and illustrated by famous author and artist Gege Akutami, the dark fantasy series is already one of the best anime shows of summer 2023.

However, the author, Gege, known for his unpredictability, has left much room for imagination due to unanswered questions surrounding certain events and characters from the series, leading fans and viewers to develop various theories regarding these unanswered questions. In this respect, here are some unsolved mysteries from the series.

10 Who’s The Traitor?

Jujutsu Kaisen Mechamaru

The presence of a mole was a thought that constantly bugged Gojo, and following the unexpected events of the Kyoto arc, that suspicion became evident with the villains having access to inside information on Jujutsu High. The identity of the traitor became crucial.

However, what was not in anticipation was the possibility of multiple moles, with Mechamaru revealed to be one, and the identity of the other remains unknown. Numerous theories suggest that the other mole is a character yet to be revealed to the public and will be introduced later in the series, but this remains unanswered.

9 Sukuna’s Inability To Willfully Possess Itadori

Jujutsu-Kaisen-Itadori

For all his power and pedigree, it seems odd that Sukuna cannot possess Itadori at will. Much more impressive is the fact that the latter can willfully suppress the King of Curses. This fact is puzzling and raises questions surrounding Sukuna’s actual strength as a curse and even Itadori’s background, which is also largely unknown.

Although Kenjaku is hinted at having a hand in this, there is nothing concrete to back it up. Some opinions even allude to Itadori’s superhuman physical capabilities, but this is not enough to go on, seeing as there’s very little known about the source of these capabilities, leaving a question mark on the situation.

8 Is Nobara Truly Dead?

It is unsurprising to see characters die off, especially in Jujutsu Kaisen. Still, after seeing Junpei’s horrific death at the hands of Mahito, it becomes even more apparent, leaving fans and viewers with a distasteful eagerness to see who gets the axe next. However, this raises the question of what happened to Nobara.

Facing off against Mahito alongside Itadori during the Shibuya arc, She is dealt significant damage by the special-grade curse, leaving her on the brink of death. Although she is revealed as being saved through Arata Nitta, nothing else shows her condition or state of life as the series unfolds. Her non-appearance throughout the show after the clash makes it more conspicuous, thus hanging clouds of doubt over her state of life.

7 Panda’s Spirit’s Fate Following The Clash Against Kashimo

Panda, being a Cursed Corpse, means he possesses three cores, and can take on three different forms. One being a panda, another being a gorilla, and finally, a triceratops. Following a one-sided beatdown of him by Kashimo, Panda has two of his cores destroyed and is reduced to just a head.

Although having fully recovered and reduced to the size of a baby, nothing is referred to of his ability to take on his other forms causing fans to question if he’ll be able to use his other forms once again or if it resulted in the permanent destruction of both states.

6 Nanami Kento’s Revival Theory

Nanami’s death is probably the most genuinely sad event in the series, and dying at the hands of Mahito seemed a little poetic, at the least, after the events of the Culling game in the Shibuya arc, with Gojo returning from the Prison realm. The author, Gege, seems to hint at a revival as Gojo is pictured, saying that the late-ratio sorcerer seemed like he’d survive through to the end.

It is all the more ominous that Takuma Ino, who faced the resurrected Toji Fushiguro, comes in to speak to Gojo about Nanami right after. Still, there is no further information about their conversation, again casting shadows of uncertainty over the possibility of Nanami’s reintroduction.

5 Location Of Sukuna’s 20th Finger

Following Gojo’s return from Prison, the battle of the strongest is set in motion, with Sukuna pictured consuming the remaining of his fingers but one. Sukuna is unbothered and hints at Gojo, probably taking precautions to prevent him from finding all twenty fingers as a last resort. This suggests that the location of the last finger is unknown.

It remains to be seen the importance of the last finger as to whether it is capable of tipping the scales of the battle to decide who emerges victorious.

4 Megumi’s Connection to Sukuna

Megumi with a shikigami

It is rather hard to understand Sukuna’s fascination with Megumi Fushiguro. Following Sukuna’s beatdown of the latter during the Fearsome Womb arc, Sukuna expresses interest in the young jujutsu sorcerer as he points out a lack of imagination on his part and his evident potential.

Although Megumi’s background is no longer a mystery, there’s still no explanation for the ancient curse’s objective regarding Megumi. Some theories believe that the interest stems from Megumi’s shadow technique, with Sukuna believing he is the key to obtaining a physical form in the present world. All is, however, still just conjectures, with fans hoping that this uncertainty is addressed as the story unfolds.

3 Uraume’s Connection to Sukuna and Kenjaku

Everything about the character, Uraume, seems mysterious downright to his personality. The only detail revealed is the fact that the trio of Sukuna, Uraume, and Kenjaku are all from the Heian period of Japan. Asides from that, it’s a given that he is immensely strong to be able to hang around both Sukuna and Kenjaku, his true objective remains unknown and confusing even.

With both Sukuna and Kenjaku seemingly having different objectives, it begs the question as to whose side Uraume is actually on as he is revealed to be closely affiliated with the two ancient sorcerers and what exactly his true motives are, is still uncertain.

2 Yorozu’s Final Words

Things take an unsavory turn when it is revealed that Tsumiki Fushiguro, who is Megumi’s sister, is one of the players chosen as vessels for past sorcerers. Even worse is that she is possessed by Yorozu, a sorcerer revealed to be from the Heian-era, same as Sukuna, and she challenges him to a duel while he is in possession of Megumi’s body.

Seeing an opportunity to destroy Megumi’s resolve completely, Sukuna kills Tsumiki using Megumi’s body and technique. The uncertainty, however, stems from Yorozu’s last words as she’s about to die. It is unclear who she is referring to between the ancient Sukuna and Megumi. As it is also uncovered that Yorozu was actually in love with the King of Curses, believing herself to be the only one capable of loving him. Some theories suggest that her last words were meant for Sukuna in a bid to aid his fight against Gojo, while others believe that at the last moment, Tsumiki is able to regain control of herself and leave a message for her brother, Megumi.

1 Sukuna’s Origin

ryomen-sukuna

Expected to be the series’ final villain, there’s shockingly little known about the King of Curses, Ryoumen Sukuna. Known to be the strongest sorcerer in history, it is odd that there is very little information as to how he earned that title. He is known as being from the Heian era and has lived for over a thousand years, the same as Kenjaku and Uraume, and also that he became a curse, which suggests that he was human prior to that.

With almost no information regarding his human origins, there is a lot of room for questions and conjecture regarding his actual strength and supposed vulnerabilities, which may raise more than a few eyebrows.
