These amazing Harry Potter characters don’t get the credit they deserve when it comes to making a difference in the Wizarding World.
Yet while Harry Potter may be best known for its fantastical elements, part of its success is due to its memorable characters. Indeed, figures like Severus Snape, Albus Dumbledore, and Minerva McGonigal are recognizable even to the most casual of fans. However, while there are plenty of notable individuals in Hogwarts and beyond, there are also some iconic couples. From Harry and Ginny to Bill and Fleur, love is clearly in the air in the Wizarding World.

Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange
A Match Made In Hell
- Voldemort Played By Ralph Fiennes
- Bellatrix Lestrange Played By Helena Bonham Carter
Even Harry Potter‘s most committed fans can surely admit that the franchise took a strange turn following the release of 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two. Yet far weirder than the Fantastic Beasts movies or various lore-expanding Tweets was 2016’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This stage play picks up nearly two decades after Harry’s final year at Hogwarts, introducing a new threat in the form of Delphini, a Dark witch.
Delphini’s desire to bring back Voldemort is driven by the fact that she is his daughter, conceived with senior Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange. While this pairing appears to have been tactical rather than entirely romantic, Voldemort and Bellatrix are, without a doubt, the most evil power couple in the Wizarding World.

Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks
The Franchise’s Most Tragic Romance
- Remus Lupun Played By David Thewlis
- Nymphadora Tonks Played By Natalie Tena
Harry encounters numerous Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers during his time at Hogwarts, but perhaps the most memorable is Remus Lupin. Lupin becomes one of Harry’s staunchest allies in the fight against the Death Eaters, as well as a key player in the Order of the Phoenix. Nor does Lupin’s werewolf nature stand in the way of a touching romance with Nymphadora Tonks, a Metamorphagus and Auror.

Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley
The Boy Who Lived And The Girl Who Married Him
- Harry Potter Played By Daniel Radcliffe
- Ginny Weasley Played By Bonnie Wright
Given that the franchise revolves around Harry Potter, it’s unsurprising that the Boy Who Lived finds love by the end of his time at Hogwarts. What is perhaps surprising is that, contrary to many fans’ expectations, Harry doesn’t end up with fellow main character Hermionie Granger. Instead, Harry marries Ginny Weasley, the sister of his best friend.
Harry and Ginny’s relationship is a point of contention for some die-hard book enthusiasts, who claim that the movie franchise fails to properly depict it. While the two characters exhibit great chemistry when their exploits are written down, many feel that something was lost when this romance was transplanted to the big screen. Perhaps this is one plot thread that the upcoming Harry Potter television series can put to rights, finally giving on-screen Harry and Ginny the relationship that they deserve.
3
Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour
A Match Made In Heaven
- Bill Weasley Played By Domhnall Gleeson
- Fleur Delacour Played By Clemence Poesy
The relationship between Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour is one with more than a few bumps in the road. They attend rival schools (Hogwarts and Beauxbatons Academy, respectively), while Bill’s sister Ginny violently dislikes Fleur, nicknaming her “phlegm” following the couple’s engagement. The relationship is further complicated when Bill is disfigured by the evil werewolf Fenrir Greyback, and when the Death Eaters stage an attack on their wedding.

Despite these obstacles, Bill and Fleur are genuinely soul mates, making them one of the Wizarding World’s most iconic couples. Even Ginny is able to come to terms with her older brother’s choice of bride, suggesting that while the path to true love does not run smoothly, it’s well worth embarking upon.
2
Ron Weasley and Hermionie Granger
An Unexpectedly Successful Romance
- Ron Weasley Played By Rupert Grint
- Hermionie Granger Played By Emma Watson
Ron Weasley and Hermionie Granger appear to be an unlikely couple when they first meet on the Hogwarts Express. Hermionie is bookish and intelligent, while Ron seems to have little interest in the academic side of life at Hogwarts. However, seven years of saving the world from the forces of evil results in a tight bond between the mismatched pair, resulting in their eventual marriage.
Ron and Hermionie’s romance gives them the strength to carry on even in the darkest of times and, as such, proves essential for ensuring Voldemort’s eventual defeat. The wizard and witch may be chalk and cheese, but it seems that opposites attract even in the Wizarding World.
1
James Potter and Lily Potter
The Key To The Entire Franchise
- James Potter Played By Adrian Rawlins
- Lily Potter Played By Geraldine Somerville
While Harry Potter may be the main focus of his eponymous books and movies, it’s arguable that the most important couple in the Wizarding World actually comprises his parents. The romance between James and Lily Potter not only results in the birth of Harry, but their fearless sacrifice (they are killed protecting their child from Voldemort) is what transforms Harry into one of the Dark Lord’s Horcruxes, thus playing a vital role in the villain’s downfall.

The relationship between Harry’s parents is also essential in motivating Harry Potter‘s most interesting character, Severus Snape. Snape initially hates the Potter’s romance because he is also in love with Lily, but Dumbledore’s guidance leads Snape to play an essential part in Harry’s victory over Voldemort. Indeed, while James and Lily appear only infrequently, their relationship casts a long shadow over the franchise as a whole.
