Based on Greek mythology, this show features a thrilling bloody plot about family ties, betrayal, love entanglements, and the jealousy of beings that are bigger than life. The protagonist is a young man who becomes obsessed with revenge after his mother is murdered. He discovers he is the bastard son of Zeus (or at least, one of the many he has sired throughout the ages).
Of course, Hera won’t stand by idly as this new bastard runs around doing as he pleases. The main conflict is basically a full-scale war between the gods due to Zeus’ constant mistakes. But, afterward, things get a little bit more complicated — and bloody. A dark twist leads the story towards impending doom and a cataclysmic event that could destroy both realms, human and divine, forever.

This powerful, dramatic, and dark prequel to the Dark Crystal movie narrates the tale of Rian, Deet, and Brea, a band of underdogs with the objective of uniting all the Gelfling clans. Together, they hope to depose a tyrannical rule and prevent an apocalypse in the form of a shadowy curse looming over their homeworld.
Though the series was highly criticized and promptly canceled, the truth is that this is an underrated jewel that every fan of dark dantasy should see. Though it is considerably less mature in both tone and animation than Castlevania Nocturne, the essence of its fantastical setting is about banding together against impending doom.

With an obscure and bloody world background design setting the mood, the story progresses at a breakneck pace, not giving fans any chance to surrender.

In opposition to most folk tales, where humans defy gods and come back from the journey more wise and seasoned, this story dives hard into the defiance trope, where a band of unlikely allies tries to slay none other than Thor himself. Gory battles and heartbreaking outcomes are guaranteed.

With a mixture of urban fantasy, supernatural events, and folklore from Manila, Trese is an unexpectedly great animation series, based on the comic books of the same name by Philippine author Budjette Tan. Alexandra Trese runs the underworld of Manila like a female Jhon Constantine, lurking in the shadows and beating the hell out of demonic creatures and humans alike. In daylight, she outmaneuvers dirty politicians and works with the authorities of the island to preserve the balance between the mortal realm and the supernatural creatures that inhabit this land.

A lot of readers might have started watching Invincible, thinking it would be like any other mainstream superhero story, but it turns out it is an impactful (and unapologetic) critique of the genre. It’s a slap in the face for every Golden Age fan, unveiling the most uncomfortable truths about vigilantism, heroics, and the role of superheroes in society.
Gory, brutal, and touching divisive topics, Invincible has gained thousands of fans and detractors. Being one of the most controversial animated series of all time, this series is directed at a more mature audience. So, readers be advised, it has a lot of triggering content.
