One Piece is a popular manga series that follows Monkey D. Luffy as he journeys throughout the world with his crewmates. On his adventures, Luffy comes across all kinds of people, which leave an impression on him in one way or another.

One Piece doesn’t just have humans; there are other kinds of races. Different races have different attributes that separate them from each other; however, due to the diversity, there is a great deal of racism. Many humans do not like the various races, but there are a few people who believe that one day all the races will live together in peace.

Updated on August 22, 2023, by Suzail Ahmad: There are not many series that can compete with One Piece in terms of world-building. The story may seem simple at first, but there are many layers to it. Having an expansive world comes with its perks, and one of them is being able to create a diverse portfolio of characters. There are so many different kinds of places in One Piece that it is not easy to keep track of all of them. While most locations are occupied by humans, some are inhabited by other races.

Each race has a unique quality that separates it from the rest. In fact, there are many individuals from these races who have left a lasting impact on the minds of viewers. So, the list has been updated to include the most prominent members of all the One Piece races.

Wotans

Wotans from One Piece

The Wotans are a hybrid race. They are a cross between giants and fish-men. As a hybrid race, they retain some of the characteristics of both races. They are significantly bigger than humans, but they are not as big as pure giants. The pure giants, such as Oars and Hajrudin are still bigger than Wotans. The fish-man genes of the Wotans grant them immense strength and the ability to freely fight underwater.

The combination of these abilities makes the Wotans much more powerful than ordinary humans. The only known Wotan in the series is Big Pan, who is a member of the Foxy Pirates. It is possible that fans might get to see more Wotans before the series ends.

Prominent Members: Canonically, Big Pan is still the only Wotan. However, there is another Wotan named Sebastian in One Piece Film: Strong World who was a member of the World Pirates.

Oni

Kaido claims to start the greatest war

The Oni are a rather mysterious race, as almost nothing is known about them. They haven’t been officially introduced in the series yet, but there is no doubt that they will be confirmed as a separate race sooner rather than later. There are two known members of this race: Kaido and Yamato. Yamato is known as the “Oni Princess,” which points toward him being a member of the Oni race.

The two of them have one main thing in common, and that is their horns. There is a difference in their heights, as Kaido is much bigger than Yamato. As there is no other information available regarding this race, it is difficult to guess what other features are unique to the Oni.

Prominent Members: The only two known members of this race are Kaido and Yamato. Kaido was one of the Yonko, and he was renowned throughout the world for his strength. Yamato, being the son of Kaido, was an impressive fighter in his own right.

Kinokobito

Kinokobito from One Piece

Almost nothing is known about the Kinokobito except for their appearance. They have humanoid shapes, but instead of having just two legs, they have four. Their bodies resemble those of mushrooms, and they seem to have tall caps on their heads.

The only time that a Kinokobito was seen in the series was during the Whole Cake Island arc, when Mont-d’Or was going through his book.

Prominent Members: Despite the series entering the final saga, fans still haven’t seen a Kinokobito.

Humans

Ace and Luffy as kids

The most dominant race in One Piece is humankind. There are different tribes that have been introduced in the series, and each of them has its own special history; for example, the Kuja are known for their Haki, while the Kumate are considered to be violent.

Humans created the World Government, so they rule over One Piece‘s world. Because of their majority, humans are fearful of other races and treat them with disdain.

Prominent Members: Due to their massive number, it is difficult to name just a few. However, the first names that come to mind are Luffy, Shanks, Zoro, Sanji, and Mihawk.

Sky Island Residents

One Piece Enel Kenbunshoku Haki Skypiea

The Sky Islands were first mentioned in the Jaya arc as the Straw Hats tried to find the way to Skypiea. The people living on the Sky Islands are different from ordinary humans. They originally resided on the moon, but due to a lack of resources, they decided to leave and settle on Earth.

Most Sky Island residents possess wings on their backs; however, exceptions do exist. For instance, Enel has drums on his back.

Prominent Member: Enel is unquestionably the most well-known character who hails from the Sky Islands. He possesses the Goro Goro no Mi, a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows him to control thunder.

Giants

One Piece Hajrudin beats Machvise

Giants are arguably the strongest race in One Piece. They have human-like features, but they are much taller than any normal human, and because of their huge size, giants have a great deal of strength.

The older giants, such as Oars and his descendants, resemble demons, and they are considered Ancient Giants. Conversely, newer giants such as Hajrudin, Dorry, and Brogy resemble humans more. The home of the Giants is Elbaf, which is in the New World.

Prominent Members: One Piece fans have seen a fair share of giants in the series, but the most notable ones are definitely Dorry and Brogy. The two are immensely powerful, and their combined attack was enough to sink the Victoria Punk.

Longarm Tribe

One Piece Scratchmen Apoo

As the name implies, members of the Longarm Tribe have long arms because they have two joints in this area of their bodies. Their long arms grant them significant strength and make them more physically powerful than humans.

Scratchmen Apoo, the On Air Pirates’ captain and a member of the Worst Generation, is one of the most well-known representatives of the Longarm tribe.

Prominent Members: The Longarm tribe does not have the same level of representation as the other races. However, they still have two solid characters in Apoo and Joseph.

Lunarians

King, Kaido's Right-Hand Man Making His Debut In Wano

Lunarians are a very strong race of individuals who used to live on the Red Line. Due to being hunted by the World Government, the number of Lunarians fell drastically, reaching a point where they were considered extinct.

Lunarians are physically strong, and they also have the ability to create and manipulate fire. The only known member of this race is Kaido’s right-hand man, King.

Prominent Member: The Lunarians were hounded for their power and mercilessly killed by the World Government. The only surviving member of this race is King, who was experimented on by Vegapunk. King’s Lineage Factor was used in the creation of the Seraphim.

Fish-Men

Jimbei in One Piece episode 1000

Like Minks, Fish-Men have all the attributes of the fish that they resemble. Fish-Men are said to be ten times stronger than humans, which makes them an extremely powerful race. Their strength increases further underwater, giving them a significant advantage.

They also have the ability to manipulate water, which makes it possible for them to use Fish-Man karate. Fish-Men are hated by humans, who often try to kill them because they look different. Jimbei, Arlong, and Fisher Tiger are examples of Fish-Men.

Prominent Members: Fish-Men are subject to all kinds of brutalities from humans. Many interesting One Piece characters, like Jimbei and Fisher Tiger, belong to this race. Fisher Tiger freed the slaves in Marijoa and became famous throughout the world. Jimbei is currently a member of the Straw Hat Pirates.

Merfolk

Shirahoshi at Levely

Merfolk are different from Fish-Men since their upper bodies are human-like while their lower halves have tails. Male Merfolk are called Mermen and females are called Mermaids. Unlike Fish-Men, Merfolk cannot walk on land; however, once a mermaid turns 30, their tails turn into legs, permitting them to walk. On the other hand, mermen keep their tails throughout their lives.

Merfolk are the fastest swimmers due to their fishlike features. In addition to being fast swimmers, Merfolk are also able to communicate with fish.

Prominent Members: Merfolk also live on Fish-Man Island along with the Fish-Men. King Neptune, Shirahoshi, and Fukaboshi are some well-known Merfolk.

Minks

Carrot One Piece

The Mink tribe is a special race of animals that are capable of talking and walking on two legs like bipeds. Each member represents a specific animal, and they have all the features of that animal. Minks are strong warriors, who have the ability to use electro.

Minks also have a special form known as the Sulong form, which can only be used when there is a full moon.

Prominent Members: The Mink tribe played a crucial role in the Wano Country arc. Several Minks came to the land of samurai to liberate it from the clutches of the Beasts Pirates, and Orochi.

Longleg Tribe

Blue Gilly fighting at Corrida Coliseum

The members of the Longleg tribe are also very human-like, but instead of having normal-sized legs, they have extremely long ones. The long legs make them taller than most races in One Piece.

With their unique features, Longleg tribe members can deal a lot of damage with their kicks, but their huge legs also make for an excellent target.

Prominent Members: Longleg tribe members have grown quite a bit in popularity because of their designs and abilities. Currently, there are six characters who belong to this race. Charlotte Smoothie, Tamago, and Blue Gilly are the most recognizable members of the Longleg tribe.

Dwarves

Tontatta Pirates ready with their weapons

Dwarves are extremely small and have fluffy tails. They also have features that resemble those of humans. Despite their small size, dwarves are actually very powerful. The Tontatta tribe of Dressrosa falls into this category.

They have a great deal of knowledge about plant life, which makes them excellent cultivators.

Prominent Members: The Tontatta tribe members were introduced in the Dressrosa arc, where they aided the Straw Hats in their mission to defeat Dofllamingo. Out of the many individuals, Leo, Mansherry, Bian, and Kabu stood out the most.

Three-Eye Tribe

Pudding crying after removing Sanji's memories

It is awfully difficult to distinguish members of the Three-Eye tribe from ordinary humans because they have mostly the same qualities. The only difference between humans and the people of the Three-Eye tribe is that the latter have an extra eye on their forehead.

With their extra eye, they can gain the ability to use the Voice of All Things and read the poneglyphs. Charlotte Pudding is a member of the Three-Eye tribe, and Big Mom tried to use her third eye to read the Road Poneglyph.

Prominent Member: Charlotte Pudding is the only known member of the Three-Eye tribe. She is currently in the possession of the Blackbeard Pirates, who kidnapped her during their invasion of Whole Cake Island.

Snakeneck Tribe

Snakeneck Tribe from One Piece

The members of the Snakeneck tribe have long and thin necks. So far in One Piece, members of this tribe have not displayed any special skill with their necks, so it is plausible to assume that their necks are just long.

This tribe has not been explored in significant detail since making its full debut in the Whole Cake Island arc.

Prominent Members: So far, all the members of the Snakeneck tribe are linked to Big Mom. Charlotte Amande is the most notable member of this race. Other known members include Charlotte Monder and Charlotte Effiler.
