Episode five of Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga is live and it continues Rin Okamura’s journey into the past. This episode focuses on Satan and how he grows more and more powerful with time. We also get some more Yuri and Shiro moments. Yuri is desperately finding a way to stop Satan, who is willing to destroy anyone and anything in his way.
This episode of The Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga shows the peak of Satan and his newfound ego. We also see Yuri desperately searching for any way to try and stop Satan from taking any more lives. Shiro on the other hand, also plays a major role in this episode while Rin and Mephisto watch these events unfold.

The episode starts with Yuri facing Satan and crying at the fact that he has just killed someone. She exclaims that she is disappointed and should have stopped Satan when he started killing hamsters. To this, Satan says that humanity means nothing to him, and he can kill as much as he likes. He also says that even humans kill all the time and even eat what they kill.
I have no need for the weak. I will take what is mine, and I’ll destroy anyone who stands in my way – Satan
Yuri claims that the reason humans kill animals is to survive, but Satan killed the hostage without any reason. This infuriates him and as a result, he ends up burning the whole building, but fortunately, Shiro steps in just in time to save Yuri.
In the next scene, we see Satan flying around the city while expressing his anger at Yuri. Satan is seen enjoying himself with his power and witnessing this, Rin becomes completely distraught. Next, we see Yuri and Shiro trying to move on with their lives. Shiro asks Yuri to help him with an exam while he goes out on a mission.

Shiro Becomes A Foster Parent

In the next scene, we see Mephisto asking Shiro to become young Shura’s foster parent, who he probably saved during his mission. Mephisto claims that it is only for the time being, as they don’t have any vacant slots available for her. While Yuri and Shiro are discussing Shura, Yuri claims that she is still waiting for Rinka. Shiro says that this is completely ridiculous, as he might already be dead.
Yuri says that when his body starts to decompose he will have to return to the section for a cure and that is when she will try to reason with him again. In the next scene, we see Rick confronting Yuri about having feelings for Shiro. Yuri accepts this and says that she will always love Shiro, no matter what.
Lucifer is seen suffering again since all the Elixirs that have been extracted from Satan are no longer that effective. Lucifer’s body has decomposed significantly, but he refuses to give up the body as he knows that Satan is coming soon.

And undoubtedly, Lucifer is right, as Satan does come back. Everyone is ordered to evacuate as Satan enters the building and asks the scientists to replace his decomposing body. The scientist offers to make an Elixir to slow down the decomposition, to which he agrees. He then demands that Yuri be brought to him immediately. After using the elixir, he recovers and meets Lucifer.
Satan turns the whole Section 13 into his castle and takes everyone hostage and, in exchange, demands food as well as research materials. We also get to see Mephisto facing Satan. Mephisto declines the invitation by Satan to join him. On the other hand, exorcists keep trying their best to recapture the Asylum and free the hostages.
Yuri, on the other hand, finds a way to sneak inside the building to confront Satan. Before she continues, she comes across Shiro, who doesn’t want her to go but doesn’t have the guts to stop her from doing so. Yuri then faces Satan, who asks her demands. She says she wants him to stop fighting humans and release people from the section and in return, she will stay with him forever. Yuri knows that if she chooses to save humanity from Satan, she will have to give up her own life and leave everything behind.
If saving humanity means giving up my own life… I’ll do it. But I’ll do it my way – Yuri

This episode was definitely a roller coaster of emotions and seeing Yuri and Shiro part ways when everyone was rooting for them is truly heartbreaking. The episode was definitely weaker in terms of animation quality as compared to the first four episodes but the storytelling and voice acting make up for it.
Hopefully, the next episode has a better quality to it as it will follow up on some important events. The Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga has officially premiered, with its episodes now available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
