With the anime on hiatus, there is an opportunity for Boruto to come back stronger and win over the fans.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations started airing in April 2017 and went on a break in 2023. In an announcement, it was confirmed that the anime was going on hiatus. Given the response the series received, it wasn’t surprising at all.

SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT
People who watched Boruto: Naruto Next Generations were disappointed with the quality of the anime. They did not shy away from showing their disapproval on social media. With the anime on break, it gives Studio Pierrot a chance to set things right. The studio has a lot of ground to cover, but with the right approach, it can still make Boruto an anime worth watching.
6 Fewer Fillers
One of the biggest problems that Boruto: Naruto Next Generations was facing was the ungodly amount of fillers. It seems that Studio Pierrot did not learn from its mistakes with Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. It reached a point where most episodes in Naruto Shippuden were fillers.
The Boruto anime suffered from the same issue, and most of the content in the series is non-canon and unimportant. The manga is released on a monthly basis, which means there is a limited amount of content that the studio can adapt. Studio Pierrot would do well to lower the number of fillers in the next part of the anime, either by taking more breaks in between or making Boruto a seasonal anime.
5 Better Pacing
Boruto anime has abysmal pacing, and once again, it is due to the lack of content. The studio has no other option but to drag out the material to make more episodes. While this is beneficial for the studio, viewers do not like waiting for a plot line to end in multiple episodes.
With improved pacing, the attention of the fans will be solely on the story. They will be able to enjoy the series more, and it will give them one less thing to complain about. It is understandable that Studio Pierrot won’t be able to adapt one chapter per episode, and it would be unrealistic to presume that they could. However, they could certainly increase the canon material that they put in an episode.
4 Introducing Interesting Characters
In case Studio Pierrot plans to continue releasing filler episodes even after the anime returns, it would be better to up the quality of the episodes. One of the surefire ways to do so is by introducing intriguing characters. In comparison to Naruto, Boruto’s cast of characters is not as diverse and interesting.
If the anime were to put in more characters that actually added something different to the story, the viewership would definitely increase. Initially, the anime did have characters like Iwabee and Kagura, which made the fillers interesting. Unfortunately, they were misused, and the hype around them was ruined. So, going forward, the anime needs to put more characters in the story.
3 Consistent Animation
Boruto anime is handled by Studio Pierrot, which is among the biggest studios in Japan. The studio employs some of the most talented animators in the industry, and it has produced many amazing episodes. However, the animation in most of the episodes is subpar.
The series has even been outsourced to other studios, which decreases the overall quality of the episodes. This approach has not gone down well with the fans, but it is to be expected from an anime that airs every week. When the anime finally returns, viewers will be hoping that Studio Pierrot limits outsourcing and improves the animation of the episodes.
2 Handling Old-Generation Favorites Better
Most fans started watching Boruto because they wanted to see their favorite Naruto characters back in action. However, they were left disappointed after seeing how they were treated. Even in the manga, Kishimoto has made many questionable decisions that have left fans speechless.
The anime will indubitably release filler episodes in the future, so they should focus on the old generation. An arc or two where they get some screen time would go down well with the audience. It is a great strategy, and it is highly unlikely that viewers will complain about it.
1 Limiting Increase In Power Levels
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has introduced a plethora of new characters, and most of them have an incredible arsenal. There are many Otsutsuki clan members in Boruto, and they are more powerful than most of the characters in Naruto. For example, Jigen, who was a vessel of Isshiki Otsutsuki, was able to fight against both Naruto and Sasuke at the same time. Toward the end of Naruto, the two ninjas were the strongest beings alive. But Jigen manhandled them as if they were flies. When push came to shove, Naruto had to use the Baryon Mode to defeat Jigen, and it came at the cost of Kurama’s life.
There is no telling when Boruto is going to end, and fans have already seen many overpowered characters. Whether it continues for 100 episodes or 500 episodes, the newer characters will be even stronger. This begs the question, “How high can these power levels go?” At some point, it will become overpopulated with strong individuals with even more absurd abilities. So, it is imperative that the anime introduce a cap on the power levels. While people do enjoy seeing strong characters, it is never a good idea to go overboard with it.
