Boruto chapter 81 is now just around the corner and fans are already very excited for the manga to finally make its return. The manga has been on a hiatus for a couple of months now and fans have been starved for content, especially since there is no anime either.
The only glimpse that fans got of the Narutoverse recently was through the Minato one-shot that Kishimoto dropped recently. Thankfully, however, the wait is almost over now and this month, fans will finally get their fill of Boruto as the young Uzumaki is all set to return and make waves once again. All eyes are currently on Boruto chapter 81 and the fans can’t wait for it.
New Designs For The Fans To See
The previous chapter of Boruto focused quite a lot on the timeskip that was to follow. Fans knew there would be a timeskip in Boruto from the very beginning of the story. This is because the very prologue of the manga showcased an older version of Boruto Uzumaki fighting against Kawaki atop the Hokage faces. Furthermore, the entirety of Konoha appeared to have been destroyed around them. Immediately, fans started making their theories about what could have happened and how, as well as the fate of the 7th Hokage. Now that the story has almost reached this point, fans know for a fact that Naruto Uzumaki is sealed away in another dimension, while Sasuke Uchiha and Boruto are going to try to rescue him after years upon years of training.
More importantly, fans will also see new designs for these characters. New designs, especially of the timeskip, usually go to show the growth of the characters and, at the same time, are exciting for the fans to look at. In the case of Boruto Uzumaki, fans have already seen what he is going to look like, thanks to the prologue of the series. At the very same time, the design of Kawaki was also released. Furthermore, fans have also seen quite a few illustrations of these two characters in their timeskip designs.
More recently, Boruto also gave fans a glimpse of Sarada Uchiha’s timeskip design, thanks to the promotion for the upcoming Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga. At the same time, there are quite a lot of other character designs that fans are very interested in seeing and these include both new and old generation ninjas.
Villains On The Move

Boruto chapter 81 will most certainly reveal all the incredible designs to the fans, however, at the same time, it will also give fans a glimpse of major plot developments, and certainly one that is at the center of the series is the plotline of Code. Code is on a mission to fulfill Isshiki’s will and become a god similar to Shibai Otsutsuki. Code wants to fulfill the will of the Otsutsuki and he also has a personal vendetta against Kawaki. He wants to destroy Konoha completely, however, the time was not right for him to do that before the timeskip.
After these 4 years, fans will likely get a glimpse of how strong he has gotten. Perhaps, Code will have moved from planet to planet in an attempt to grow stronger. Whether he has consumed many chakra fruits like he was told to or not is something that fans could very well see in Boruto chapter 81.
At the same time, fans could also see a bit about Kawaki, who, although not really a villain, will serve an antagonistic role in Boruto moving forward. Kawaki has taken Boruto’s life from him and is looking to kill him. Just like Boruto, he will have grown tremendously strong as well. Fans will most definitely get a look at him in the upcoming chapter as he revels in his life as the son of the 7th Hokage – a life that he stole from Boruto Uzumaki.
Boruto and Sasuke’s Return?
Of course, with any series’ return from the timeskip comes more focus on the protagonist. When Naruto Uzumaki returned from the timeskip, he was central to the first chapter and the same would be the case here. Boruto Uzumaki is the protagonist of the series, after all, and it is time for him to show how much he has grown and what skills he has learned. Boruto chapter 81 will focus on Boruto and Sasuke’s return in some shape or form.
For 4 years, these two characters have been training to get stronger and face the challenges that they have lined up ahead of themselves in order to get to what they want. Naruto Uzumaki is still a prisoner while Kawaki is still a threat. To solve these problems, they had to get stronger and it will be interesting to see in Boruto chapter 81 what they have achieved.
If these two will return to Konoha or not is something that fans do not know at the moment. Boruto likely cannot return to Konoha due to being viewed as a villain. However, Sasuke potentially can. Then again, at this point, Sasuke could very well be seen as a villain to the village as well, given that he protected the man who killed the Seventh Hokage. Where Boruto and Sasuke will go from here onwards is a head-scratcher for the fans and a question that only Boruto chapter 81 can answer. All this only adds to the intrigue that fans have for the upcoming chapter and, of course, every fan is anxiously waiting to see how the story unfolds.
A Glimpse Of Naruto and Hinata
While not a guarantee, Boruto chapter 81 could also give the fans a glimpse of Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga. Fans know that both of these characters were sealed away by Kawaki towards the end of the first part of Boruto. He did so because he knew that they would interfere in the process of killing Boruto Uzumaki. Kawaki wants to kill Boruto because he is technically an Otsutsuki. He has made it his goal to root out and eliminate all of these alien parasites simply because they pose a threat to Naruto and the village that he built. While he’s coming from a good place, his actions are clearly wrong. In Boruto chapter 81, Naruto and Hinata would have been sealed away for 4 years, however, they would not have aged even a single day, since in the dimension of Daikokuten, time simply doesn’t flow.
If the fans are lucky, they will get a glimpse of Naruto and Hinata in Boruto chapter 81. Perhaps, the writers could even string together a good plotline for these two characters inside the dimension, given that Naruto is not a weakling and could potentially break free somehow. If not, fans would still hope to see them in the chapter, at the very least.
Boruto’s continuation is now called Boruto: Two Blue Vortex and will be released later this month. Fans expect the chapter to be out on August 20, 2023.
