The Power of Words is a unique technique that allows its users to achieve what they want by believing in the thought of it. The first time this technique was mentioned was in a flashback of Momo Ayase in chapter 85 of the manga. In the flashback, Ayase Seiko demonstrated this technique by hitting a sandbag with a bat called Nessie, named after a creature Momo thought to be the most powerful at the time, and sending it flying with power unexplainable. It is a power with a lot of potential, nearly invincible even. Since its introduction to the series, the Power of Words has played a major role in the series, helping the likes of Momo overcome tough trials and even Jiji, who had issues with the Evil Eye and is now trying to utilize it to its full potential.

This technique is essentially saying one’s words with conviction and speaking them into existence. It is like placing power in the tongue, where whatever is said and believed in will come true. The Power of Words solely relies on the conviction of its user. It is a technique capable of altering realities, however, the person in question has to believe in it or it will not work. When Ayase Seiko was trying to demonstrate the potential of this ability to Momo, she explained that it involves putting emotions into it and saying things that would ordinarily be impossible, and then doing it. When Momo tried to demonstrate the ability by kicking a sandbag, she did not believe in her ability to blast it away, hence no reaction. But when Seiko decided to hit it with Nessie, it was sent flying, as she had full conviction in the strength of the creature her granddaughter thought to be the most powerful. Without the conviction of the user, the Power of Words becomes nothing but words.

The Power of Words has been shown to be a dangerous technique, and it has been used multiple times in several life-saving situations. An example is Momo’s first usage of the technique. When the strange alien backed Momo and the Serpoian into a corner with nowhere to run, Momo used this technique to create a new attack called the Moe Moe Tri-Beam, drawing inspiration from the maid cafe she worked in. She used it to blast the army of mind-controlled Serpoians around her and make contact with the physically untouchable alien, defeating it.
Jiji also made excellent use of the Power of Words to amplify his spiritual power, allowing him to achieve an energy level he normally could not attain. He was also able to use it to create a new attack, which he calls the Evil Gun. An enhanced version of the Ha Wave, the Evil Gun is an attack that allows Jiji to shoot a much more powerful beam from his hands, developed in the attempt to free Aira from the grasp of Ta Komeshi Kur. Despite its immense power, the Dandadan manga series has recently portrayed a scenario in which the Power of Words has no effect. It’s known that this technique is powered by the conviction of the user and its effect solely depends on it, so the only exception to this ability not working is the lack of conviction. However, at a point in the manga, Seiko used the Power of Words to swing a piece of wood at a minotaur, and it was not effective. This changes a lot of things, as being the one to introduce it into the series, it is highly unexpected that the technique would fail when used by her.
There are various possibilities as to why it happened. It could be that Seiko’s conviction was not enough in this scenario. The opponent she was facing had an extremely tough exterior, and with the human mind, which could also be a limiter in the sense that she believed her adversary’s defense could not be broken, her conviction might have swayed. There is also the fact that she made use of a weak material, which could further reduce her conviction. Another reason is that there are beings that serve as exceptions to the Power of Words.
Considering the only thing that could supposedly hinder the Power of Words is conviction, characters being exceptions to it would be both alarming and intriguing. It’s also important to consider if the character Seiko used it on is just generally impervious to physical attacks. The minotaur mentioned that every strike on his body only further strengthens his iron body. So it could just be that the method Seiko used on the minotaur was what was not effective, not the Power of Words itself. It would be truly terrifying if there were beings that were an exception to such a strong technique.
