What Is The Selection Process, And How Does it Work?
Only The Brave Can Survive The Intense Selection process
The selection process takes place on Mount Fujikasane where wisteria flowers bloom. This location is perfect for training Demon Slayers against demons as the mountaintop is plagued by demons who were captured alive and placed in captivity. Because all the exits from the mountain are covered in wisteria flowers and since these flowers are poisonous to demons, they are unable to leave and spend the rest of their lives roaming the mountaintop either to kill or be killed by Demon Slayers. The demons captured are weak and have not killed many humans, making them the perfect vessels as training instruments for the Demon Slayers.
The selection process begins at the mountaintop shrine where the soon-to-be Demon Slayers are briefed about the rules of the selection process. The rules are then explained by the Ubuyashiki Family’s children, Kiriya and Kanata Ubuyashiki, and they also act as the event organizers for the selection process. The trainee Demon Slayers will need to survive on their own wit, without the help of outsiders if they are to pass the selection process. Candidates who are successfully able to survive seven nights on the mountaintop are given the chance to become official members of the Demon Slayer Corps.
We’re pleased to see that you’re safe.
Those Who Emerge Victorious Are Rewarded
The Survivors Are Welcome As Official Demon Slayers
Once the seven days mark hits, the exam ends in the early morning and the candidates who survived the seven nights will need to gather at the mountaintop shrine again where they are officially welcomed into the Demon Slayer Corps. They are also given all the benefits of becoming a corp member, such as their own uniform, their very own nichirin sword and an assigned Kasugai crow as their official messenger between the member and the corps. At the beginning of the selection process, there are usually twenty candidates who enter, but towards the end, not all of them are able to survive the seven nights on the mountaintop.

One of the main reasons so many candidates are unable to survive the nights is that, apart from the weaker demons, a more powerful demon also wanders the mountaintop. The demon known as the Hand Demon had killed more than fifty rookie Demon Slayers including students of the former Water Hashira – Sakonji Urokodaki. The Hand demon is also the reason Giyu Tomioka was able to escape, as his good friend Sabito sacrificed himself in order for Giyu and a handful of other trainee Demon Slayers to escape unharmed. The reason why the Hand Demon still roamed freely until Tanjiro killed him is unsure. Fans speculate that the Hand Demon posed more of a challenge than the weaker demons did, hence why he still remained on the mountaintop until he was slain. The process of undergoing the selection process is no easy feat, it takes the brave and the strong-willed to survive the seven nights on the mountaintop all while fighting for their lives so that they can also contribute to the war against Muzan. While the concept of the final selection process is questionable, the experience and outcome of the process are rewarding as the trainee Demon Slayers become trainees no more.
