- Episode 6 provides a comprehensive arc for Dr. Phosphorus, blending past and present narratives effectively.

DC: 7 Reasons Why the DCU and The Batman Shouldn’t Merge
Fans are often debating why The Batman universe should merge with the DCU, but here are a few reasons why that shouldn’t happen.

Each episode of the show manages to continue the overall story of the season while divulging information about a character’s past. The season also moves at lightning speed with each episode being just a hair above 23 minutes. Not everyone will agree with the ranking of the episodes below, but no episode will leave viewers disappointed.

The Collywobbles
Brings The Team Together
Close
- Episode 1
The series jumps right into the conflict at the heart of the season after a brief opening scene establishing the concept. The episode spends a lot of energy setting things up like the conflict in Pokolistan and brief glimpses into the titular squad’s individual personalities.
There is not a lot of exciting action or development to speak of, but it all pays off quickly in future episodes. Calling the first episode of the series the weakest is not necessarily a bad thing. After all, it only gets better from here.

The Iron Pot
Eric Frankenstein And Rick Flag Investigate
Close
- Episode 5
The fifth episode in the series covers Eric Frankenstein who, frankly, is one of the few main characters with zero redeeming qualities. One could argue he is sympathetic for being forced to life by his creator, but the ease with which he murders people and his insistence that the Bride loves him makes him repulsive.
All the same, his interactions with certain characters are still wildly entertaining, especially his and Rick Flag’s investigation into Professor MacPherson. On the opposite end, the viewer almost feels guilty for laughing at any of his antics when he murders the woman who nursed him back to health in cold blood.
Continuing the series’ trend of using under-the-radar rock music, the episode ends with the song “I Wouldn’t Want To Live In A World Without Grudges” by The World/Inferno Friendship Society.

Priyatel Skelel
Dr. Phosphorus’s Origins
Close
- Episode 6
By now most viewers know to expect murder and misunderstandings in the flashbacks showcasing how each character came to be. It does not make Dr. Phosphorus’s transformation at the hands of organized criminals who killed his family any less impactful.
In just a few scenes viewers get a comprehensive arc of him losing his family and then rising through the criminal underworld on a whirlwind of vengeance. To top it all off, fans get a first glimpse at the new Batman. This is juxtaposed with him in the current day interacting with a little girl who does not speak English, reminding us that the family man is still inside him underneath all the radiation.

Cheers To The Tin Man
G.I. Robot Goes Out Like A Hero
Close
- Episode 3
It can feel cruel to kill off G.I. Robot at the end of this episode just after he starts eliminating the Sons of Themyscira. There is a sad beauty to him going out in a blaze of glory, doing the thing he was always meant to do after years of incarceration.

His massacring of a Neo-Nazi rally in his past also brings back thematic connections to the Peacemaker series and its commentary on home-grown fascism. Fans of early aughts alternative rock will no doubt get a kick out of the appropriate inclusion of the Dresden Dolls’ “Coin-Operated Boy” during this sequence.

Chasing Squirrels
Weasel Has Been Innocent All Along
Close
- Episode 4
This episode shines so brightly precisely because of Weasel’s backstory. Viewers are already attuned to the idea of a tragic backstory, but the truth about Weasel’s past is a tragedy on par with Futurama’s “Jurassic Bark” episode.
Not only did Weasel not murder any children, but the kids were the animal’s best friends and they died because adult prejudice assumed he was out to harm them. The episode only loses points because the action in the modern day does not narratively or thematically connect to Weasel’s past.

A Very Funny Monster
The Truth Comes Out And A Member Of The Commandos Dies
Close
- Episode 7
It all comes to a head here as Amanda Waller races to warn the crew inside Pokolistan that they were tricked. She is too late, but Nina Mazursky fails to kill Ilana Rostovic and ends up dying in the attempt. The Bride finds out about Ilana’s scheme to confuse the United States and kills the princess herself.

However, she is ultimately more motivated by guilt and personal vengeance over Nina’s death than by the greater good. Seeing how Nina was so ridiculed and rejected by society in her past just as she feels welcome by the Creature Commandos before dying makes the moment hit the audience just as hard as it hits The Bride.

The Tourmaline Necklace
A Great Change Of Pace From Episode 1
Close
- Episode 2
After an episode that was mostly a setup, the second part of the season jumps right into the characters and introduces the structure of flashbacks while pushing the present-day story forward.
The Bride was a good character to introduce first because of her cold demeanor, showing that there was a reason for her icey manners. Despite how quick the episode feels and its focus on her, the show does not ignore the ensemble, giving her and Nina time together at the place of her creation. This eventually pays off in the finale as The Bride admits the two were friends just as she kills the princess.
Not only does the episode feature the song “American Wedding” by Gogol Bordello, but the band has a cameo in the episode during the montage of The Bride and Eric Frankenstein fighting.
