Lucy’s strength has undoubtedly increased; her teammates, Natsu Dragneel, Gray Fullbuster, Erza Scarlet, and Wendy Marvell, have a fighting edge over her. However, Lucy has learned new skills and has become significantly more powerful over the years, so how does Lucy’s powers compare to Team Natsu’s?

To comprehend Lucy’s magical abilities in relation to Team Natsu, we must first examine her history and the origins of her powers. In contrast to the members of Team Natsu, Lucy was raised in affluence, which meant she had servants attending to her around the clock. Initially, she enjoyed a nurturing family environment with caring parents, but after her mother’s death, her father’s emotional distance increased, leading him to withdraw from spending time with her.
After her mother died, Lucy learned of magic from a former servant named Bero at the Heartfilia manor, Celestial Spirit Magic. While Bero taught Lucy all she knew about the Celestial realm and Celestial Magic, Lucy did not undergo any training during her time at the Heartfilia manor.
After leaving the Heartfilia estate, Lucy began acquiring contracts with various Gold Celestial Spirit Keys and some Silver Keys. Even though she owned these Keys, Lucy primarily fought from a distance, relying on her Celestial Spirits to engage in battle since she lacked the physical strength to fight herself then. While this worked in her favor, Lucy knew she needed to continue her training to not burden her team, as she would often need saving.

While Lucy might not possess the same strength as Natsu, Gray, and Erza, her years of dedicated training enable her to stand her ground against numerous adversaries. As the descendant of Anna Heartfilia, whom Aquarius refers to as “possibly the greatest Celestial Spirit Mage to ever live,” there’s a possibility that Lucy, too, could realize her potential as a Celestial mage.
- Lucy learns how to use Forced Gate Closure, a remarkable ability for a Celestial mage, as Spirits either return when they want to, time out or when the mage has run out of magic.
- After rigorous training and many battles, Lucy has learned to summon multiple spirits, giving her an advantage in battle.
- To prove her strength further, Lucy gains a new ability: Star Dress. This ability incorporates the Celestial Spirit’s power into Lucy’s body, giving her similar skills to the Spirit’s.
How does Lucy compare to Team Natsu?
Although she’s significantly more powerful now, she’ll have a hard time against them

Throughout Fairy Tail and Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest, there is no doubt that Lucy has proven herself to be a fantastic asset to the battle, raking in her wins throughout the series. Although Lucy was not much of a fighter before, as she would often be seen hiding inside Horologium’s clock case, one of her Sliver Key Celestial Spirits, as seen in Chapter 27. After multiple deceive battles in which Lucy would rely on Natsu or Gray, she was determined to fight with her own power.
In any case, I’ll be fighting too!!
Although early on, Lucy learns how to use “Forced Gate Closure,” while Lucy adores Aquarius, the celestial spirit can be a thorn in Lucy’s side as Aquaries affectionately refuses to follow Lucy’s orders, indicating Lucy’s inability to directly command her to assist her in battle, thus forming solutions that would force them to help her. Lucy does not view the Celestial beings as anything less than her and strives to build a friendship with all her companions.

How does Lucy compare to Natsu Dragneel?
Natsu Dragneel is one of the strongest members of Fairy Tail and, at most, always at the forefront of the battle, taking on challenges head-on. Natsu has an incredible ability to adapt to any opponent, whether using his Dragon Slayer magic or eating his enemy’s magic, thus giving him an advantage in battle by mixing two elements. Natsu may be the strongest in Team Natsu and has saved Lucy several times throughout the series. While Lucy has increased her magic abilities and shown promise and talent, she does not compare to Natsu.
Natsu has been adventuring and fighting for most of his life, as he learned Dragon Slayer magic at a young age and joined Fairy Tail, taking on commissions as they come in. That alone gives Natsu a more significant advantage than Lucy in magic power, ability, and strength. Although Lucy is much stronger than she used to be, Natsu could easily overpower her; however, she has an advantage over him in terms of intelligence and strategy.
Could Lucy compare to Erza Scarlet?
Erza is another significantly powerful mage in Team Natsu. Alongside Natsu and Gray, She has been in many battles throughout her lifetime and, at one point, lived as a slave, where she awakened her magic abilities. Unlike Lucy, Erza has experienced hardships that forced her to fend for herself at a young age and has become an S-class mage as a Fairy Tail member.

In terms of power, strength, and abilities, Erza easily overpowers Lucy, as she has honed her skills over the years. While Lucy has learned to fight efficiently and expertly with her whip, Fleuve d’etoiles, and many of the weapons when she equips her Star Dress form, Lucy still does not have the same power and strength Erza emits when she in battle, making her the weaker of the two.
Could Lucy match up to Gray Fullbuster?
Much like Erza and Natsu, Gray has been training his magical abilities for the majority of his life and has lived life to gain revenge on the Demon Deliora. Gray’s Ice-Make abilities are only limited to what he can imagine, giving him extreme mastery over the skill. As a result, Gray has proven proficient in offensive and defensive magic.
While Lucy can summon multiple spirits, Gray learned Devil Slayer magic, boosting his magic abilities, although he had some weaknesses, such as Demonization. Although Gray battles with his Ice-Make magic, he is also an expert fighter, another skill Lucy is not as proficient in. Although her Lucy Kick does get the job done against weaker enemies, Lucy does have the spell Urano Metria up her alley. However, it leaves her weakened and exhausted after casting, making her vulnerable to attacks.

Does Lucy stand a chance against Wendy Marvell?
Wendy is the youngest member of Team Natsu. Like Natsu, she is a Dragon Slayer. Although Wendy also learned Dragon Slayer magic from her adoptive mother, Grandeeney, when she was first introduced, she did not know any offensive magic spells. However, she was exceptional at support magic, making her a valuable team member.
Although Wendy may have started as a support and is well-known for her healing magic, she quickly learned how to use offensive magic, making her a formidable foe with her Dragon Slaying magic. Although Wendy is still young, she can easily use many enchantments to boost her magic power. Wendy can also now enchant Irene Belserion’s residual power into her own body, giving her a significant boost in magic power.
A Stellar Spirit isn’t a shield!! I fight together with my Spirits… That’s my style!
Since Lucy can summon multiple Celestial Spirits at the same time, proving how much stronger she has become, to win a battle against one of her members, she may have to sacrifice one of her Golden Keys to do so and summon the Celestial Spirit King. Breaking and sacrificing a Key would be similar to losing one of her friends, as the Spirit would not be able to return to Earth until their Key is restored somewhere in the world. While this is an option for Lucy, this is not something that she would ever consider in order to win a battle unless forced, as seen in Chapter 384 of Fairy Tail.
