Warning: The following contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen 230, “Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 8” by Gege Akutami, translated by John Werry, and Lettered by Snir Aharon, available in English from MangaPlus.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 230 dropped recently and, once again, the entire focus was on the fight between Gojo and Sukuna. Fans were eagerly waiting to see what Gege would have in store for them following the shocking revelation that came at the end of the previous chapter.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 230 focused on the Divine General Mahoraga, which was summoned by Sukuna inside Megumi’s body in the previous chapter. At the same time, it also gave fans a glimpse of how dangerous Gojo’s techniques are, both for himself and for his enemies. Once again, the chapter was filled with incredible action and some of the most exhilarating moments.

Mahoraga’s Usage

At the end of the previous chapter, fans saw the usage of Mahoraga come into play. As soon as Gojo landed Unlimited Void on Sukuna, fans saw Mahoraga tap into the battle and Gojo’s Domain was shattered immediately. The previous chapter raised quite a few questions about how this was possible, given that Sukuna was already hit by Unlimited Void before Mahoraga even came into action. Furthermore, the wheel on top of his head did not turn, meaning it couldn’t have gotten used to Unlimited Void in such a short period of time.

Thankfully, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 230 went on to explain all that to the fans and give proper reasoning as to why that happened. According to Sukuna, he had Megumi’s soul adapt to Unlimited Void, which means that the one actually taking damage from Unlimited Void all this time was Megumi’s soul, for the most part.

At the same time, Sukuna also mentions that he already knew that Unlimited Void was going to be a pain for him to deal with. As such, he wanted Gojo to be unable to use this card from the very beginning and that is why he set up the elaborate plan to get him to use his Domain Expansion and then get Mahoraga to get used to this ability of his. However, according to Gojo, there is a stark difference between having Megumi’s soul adapt to the process instead of the result.

Satoru On The Backfoot

Satoru On The Backfoot jujutsu kaisen 230

For the vast majority of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 230, Gojo was seen on the back foot. From the very beginning, it was clear that Sukuna had planned countless steps ahead and had actually foreseen even Satoru using Unlimited Void on him and devised perfect counters to it. According to Satoru Gojo, Megumi’s soul had not itself adapted to Unlimited Void and if he used it once more, he would not be able to bail him out. However, the trickier thing here proved to be the fact that Satoru could not even tap into the powers of his Domain Expansion anymore.

Over the course of the last few chapters, the fight has raged on at an extreme level and this is quite easily the highest level of Jujutsu Sorcery that fans have seen in the entire series so far. To get a shot at becoming the undisputed strongest, Gojo has pushed his limits and done things that he has never done before. He has taken incredible risks by using Reverse Cursed Technique over and over again and to refill his burnt up cursed energy, and he has destroyed and healed his body over and over again. It was mentioned in the chapter that the cursed energy is stored in the left prefrontal cortex of the brain and Satoru utilizing his techniques means that it has been destroyed and then healed around 5 times already.

Thus, even his body is at its limit now and he simply cannot put up another Domain to attack Sukuna. Furthermore, according to Sukuna, even if, by some means, he is able to put up his Domain Expansion once again, his accuracy would drop severely and he wouldn’t compare to Sukuna anyway. Simply put, Satoru is on the back foot and Domain Expansion is simply not an option for him anymore. He still has his Innate Technique which he has refilled, however, Unlimited Void is now not a card for him anymore.

Sukuna’s Limit

From here onwards, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 230 made it very clear that Sukuna was going to be the victor in the fight. After all, Sukuna did not use Reverse Cursed Technique to heal his brain as many times as Satoru and he would have more advantage in this aspect. Sukuna also went on to taunt Satoru, saying he’s nothing more than ordinary and the only reason he was able to call himself the strongest was because he was born into an era where Sukuna was not alive, to begin with. Of course, Sukuna found out the harsh reality moments later when he tried to put up his Domain Expansion, Malevolent Shrine.

This time, Sukuna wanted to put up a domain enclosure so that Satoru had nowhere to go and get ripped to shreds instead. However, much to the surprise of the readers and the watchers alike, Sukuna was not able to put up Malevolent Shrine at all. As soon as he tried to put up his Domain Expansion, it shattered right behind him and he started bleeding from his eyes and his head. This is because Sukuna spent some time under Gojo’s Unlimited Void and just 10 mere seconds were enough to fry his brain to a point where Domain Expansion is simply not an option for him anymore. Just like Gojo, Sukuna is now struggling and Domain Expansion is off-limits. From here onwards, it looks like Sukuna won’t have any advantages and both of them will be dealing with the same disadvantages, which means the playfield is leveled once again.

Satoru Gojo Vs Sukuna Heads To Round 2

Satoru Gojo couldn’t help but feel proud of himself for damaging Sukuna to this point and making him so desperate. In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 230, the battle progressed to the second round where Domain Expansion is not an option for either of them and their bodies are quite beat already. Satoru, as flashy as ever, still wants to impress his students and set an example for them. He wants to do his best for everyone and also be declared stronger at the same time.

He then proceeded to take the battle by the helm and punch Sukuna, showcasing his superiority once again. There doesn’t seem to be an end to this fight in sight, however, both of them are weakening, which means that in a few more chapters, this battle could end up looking very different. From here onwards, Domain Expansion is not going to be usable for either of these two characters, however, there are several other powerful techniques that they can rely on. Limitless is always going to be a trump card for Satoru, however, fans have not seen the full capabilities of Sukuna’s Innate Ability either. In fact, fans don’t even know much about what Innate Ability Sukuna possesses, however, they have seen him use dice and cleave-based attacks, as well as pyrokinetic abilities stronger than even Jogo’s. From here onwards, Jujutsu Kaisen is going to get far more exciting and fans simply cannot wait for what comes next.
