He did land a couple against Hanami, and later down the line, even against Mahito when they fought in Shibuya. Now, Yuji has done it against the strongest of all, Sukuna, and he might have just landed his strongest black flash to date. This black flash was somewhat special, and it injured Sukuna greatly, and at the same time, ensured that Yuji reached a new level of power.

Now, however, Sukuna is on the back foot, and Yuji has gained new powers. This means that Yuji is now going to take the central role in the fight from here onward, and, given that he’s the protagonist, at the end of the day, he has to triumph over Sukuna.
