The Divine General Mahoraga is among the strongest of the Shikigami seen in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Mahoraga has been called upon in the series on more than one occasion and recently, it was used by Sukuna and his fight against Satoru Gojo. Mahoraga is believed to be an incredibly powerful asset up one’s sleeve.
In fact, it has also been called the trump card of the Zenin Clan, however, the fact is, that the Mahoraga is incredibly difficult to control and nobody in the history of the Zenin clan has managed to assert control over it. The Divine General is especially important in the fight between Satoru Gojo and Sukuna and at the same time, it is also going to be crucial for the character of Megumi Fushiguro moving on in the story.
What Are Shikigami?
Jujutsu sorcerers have relied on shikigami since the very beginning of the series. It was through Magumi that fans understood that Shikigami were spiritual creatures that can be summoned on the behalf of the user to fight and aid in battle. Megumi, being one of the main characters, is an avid user of these Shikigami. Fans have seen him develop several powerful techniques based around this power, some of which were even strong enough to impress the King of Curses, Sukuna, when they first clashed. In fact, Megumi’s Domain Expansion also works around similar powers. It goes without saying that he’s one of the best Shikigami users seen in the entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Shikigami are usually monstrous in appearance, however, they cannot be seen by non-sorcerers which means only those utilizing cursed energy can see them being deployed. To use a shikigami to their full effect, they need to be tamed by the user and this process isn’t always straightforward. While some can be tamed, others have proven to be impossible to assert control over. Megumi Fushiguro has shown fans the usage of several shikigami over the years and he has shown to be exceptionally skilled and summoning them using his cursed techniques.
Of course, the strength of the shikigami depends both on the user as well as their own level. This is because they are based on the user’s very own cursed energy and, thus, can only do so much. At the same time, the shikigami all have different powers and utilities. They can very well be stopped in battle or incapacitated, in which case, they simply dispel. Alternatively, the summoner of the shikigami can also dispel them at will.
The Ten Shadows Technique Of The Zenin Family
The Zenin Family is one of the most dangerous families in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen and they are avid users of shikigami, as they also have ties to the Divine General Mahoraga. To fully understand how Mahoraga functions and where it stems from, one needs to understand the 10 Shadows Technique of the Zenin family, which is also an ability that is utilized by Megumi Fushiguro. The 10 Shadows Technique is an inherited technique that is passed down the members of the Zenin family.
Using this technique, the user can summon 10 different shikigami using shadows as an intermediary. Getting a hold over these shikigami isn’t easy, however. To begin with, the user who inherits the 10 Shadows Technique must first assert control over the beast they want to be able to summon. To do that, an exorcism ritual is needed and then it needs to be defeated. Only then can they be tamed and used freely and efficiently in combat. In many ways, using a shikigami is very similar to taming a wild beast.
Once the beast is tamed, they are under the absolute control of the user and can be summoned using shadows whenever the user wants. Summoning them is incredibly easy and all that the user needs to do is create a shadow puppet of the beast and they can then be called into action, as seen on various occasions when Megumi Fushiguro utilized this technique.
While different shikigami that are a part of the 10 Shadows Technique possess different abilities, and are all useful in their own ways, there is only one that stands at the top as the very strongest and that is the Divine General Mahoraga.
Divine General Mahoraga
Mahoraga has rarely been seen in Jujutsu Kaisen and much of that is down to the fact that it is incredibly powerful and holds enough strength to push even the King of Curses, Sukuna, in battle. What’s more, the Divine General Mahoraga has never been tamed fully by any member of the Zenin Family, which makes it one of a kind and just goes to show how dangerous it actually is in combat. It is, easily, the strongest shikigami and that is precisely why such a high importance is associated with this entity. Although the Divine General Mahoraga is a part of the 10 Shadows Technique, summoning requires one to use the incantation that says “With this treasure, I summon…” followed by the name of the Divine General. Fans have seen this on multiple occasions in the story and, more recently, Sukuna had Megumi use this technique in the fight against Gojo Satoru, which aided him greatly in escaping Unlimited Void.
Mahoraga is, essentially, a towering humanoid which has a very monstrous appearance, and just looking at it is enough for one to figure out that it is incredibly powerful. While it can be menacing in combat, its true strength lies in the fact that it can adapt to any and all phenomena. Essentially, in combat, if any attack were to injure it, the wheel on its head turns and Mahoraga gains the ability to adapt to it. If the same attack is used again, Mahoraga will be able to counter it fully and effectively. This essentially means that defeating the Divine General Mahoraga is borderline impossible, however, few characters have managed to achieve that.
What’s more, Mahoraga also possesses incredible offensive powers. For instance, if an attack of the user is defended against, Mahoraga makes it so that the attack adapts itself to break through the defenses of the opponent the next time, meaning that it is essentially very overpowered.
As is indicative of its size, Mahoraga can fight very well in close-ranged combat and with a single swing of its arm, a person can be sent flying to several buildings with ease. What’s more, the Divine General also wields a powerful sword, called the Sword of Extermination, and this sword has positive energy cloaking it, which makes it incredibly efficient against Cursed Spirits.
Of course, with all these powers up its sleeve, defeating the Divine General is almost impossible, however, Sukuna has managed to pull this off in the past. To defeat the Divine General, Sukuna used Malevolent Shrine, his Domain Expansion, and finished him off with a fire arrow. His Dismantle technique was already adapted to by Mahoraga and its Cursed Energy proved to be strong enough to send Sukuna crashing through several buildings. When used against Satoru Gojo, Mahoraga was strong enough to adapt to Unlimited Void and break free, which just goes to show how dangerous this technique is. The full potential of Mahoraga under Megumi Fushiguro has not been seen just yet, however, in the future, fans will surely get the opportunity to see just that.
