In the eyes of most Jujutsu Kaisen fans, Satoru Gojo is a sorcerer without equal, able to take on virtually any opponent and escape any situation with his wit and the immense power he wields. At the root of the aura of invincibility that he radiates is the technique known as the Limitless. Passed down within the Gojo Family, this ability brings the concept of “Infinity” into reality, allowing users to manipulate space to control the attractive and repulsive forces associated with its expansion and contraction.
The Limitless gives Gojo the power to stop virtually any attack, projectile, or force directed toward him — provided that they do not nullify cursed techniques. It is also the root of the many offensive techniques in his arsenal, where he can generate and direct strong attractive, or repulsive forces that leave opponents helpless. Other abilities such as his high speed teleportation and Domain Expansion are also tied to the Limitless, making it one of the most overpowered techniques in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
What Is The Limitless?
As one of the inherited techniques of the Gojo Family, the Limitless permits users to distort and manipulate space at will, which grants a broad range of abilities. Virtually any member of the family can gain this technique through its hereditary transfer, although its true power can only be harnessed by those who are also born with the Six Eyes — an ocular jujutsu trait passed down among the Gojo clan which affords extraordinary perception that transcends human limits. Currently, Satoru Gojo is the first sorcerer to have been born with both the Six Eyes and the Limitless in nearly four hundred years.
This ability manifests as a pair of bright blue eyes, which permit them to see things several kilometers away, read the flow of cursed energy, decipher cursed techniques, differentiate between types of cursed energy, and manipulate cursed energy with a near atomic level of precision. Hence, someone with the Six Eyes can use the Limitless with maximum efficiency, such that the amount of cursed energy they expend while activating and deactivating the technique is almost zero.
Base Techniques Of The Limitless
In its neutral form, the base state of the Limitless is referred to as the “Infinity,” which operates in a manner reminiscent of convergent and divergent series in mathematics. This technique gives a user the ability to stop virtually anything directed towards them, by subdividing the space between them and the object an infinite number of times, until the object slows down so much that it appears to halt its motion completely. Anything that enters this infinitely divided space will never reach the user, acting almost like an invisible force field around them. The only way to overcome this ability is through Domain Expansion, Domain Amplification, or special cursed tools that can negate the technique entirely.
The next state is the strengthened Limitless, termed the Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue, which amplifies the amount of cursed energy infused into the technique to generate a powerful field of attraction around the user. Essentially, this brings the conceptually impossible concept of negative distance into reality, where space will rush in to fill the vacuum created by the technique, thereby generating attractive forces. With Blue, the user can constrict the space around any point they wish, to either force targets away from them, or crush them with intense applications of force. Channeling the maximum cursed energy output of this technique permits it to create fields of attraction away from the user which can be used in clearing large areas of built structures, or even destroying large buildings. Another application of Blue comes in instantaneous movement over short distances, where Satoru Gojo became the fastest sorcerer of his era due to this technique.
Conversely, the reversed form of the Limitless is known as Cursed Technique Reversal: Red. Far harder to perform by virtue of being a Reversed Curse Technique, Red brings the divergence of Infinity into reality, creating repulsive forces. For the most part, this manifests as a glowing red orb that blast away any target it is directed at, and is said to have at least twice the cursed energy output of Blue. It requires the multiplication of negative energy with negative energy to create positive energy, which may sound simple in theory, but is extremely difficult to execute in practice due to the level of precision with which the cursed energy must be manipulated. As such, it is a hard technique for any sorcerer to perform, which includes prodigies among the Gojo Family, as Satoru Gojo was himself unable to perform it until his first battle against Toji Fushiguro.
Pushing The Boundaries
Beyond its base techniques, there are a few even more advanced techniques of the Limitless that need years of training to master, and this also applies to those who possess the Six Eyes. The first among them is the Colliding Limitless, called Hollow Technique: Purple, which combines the attributes of both Red and Blue. An extremely limited number among the Gojo Family are even aware of its existence, indicating how rarely it is deployed in combat, and how difficult it is to execute. Embodying motion and reversal, the technique fuses the convergence and divergence of Infinity to create an imaginary mass which erases everything it touches from the fabric of reality without any exception. This technique can be used to devastating effect against opponents of most skill levels, and is near impossible to defend against for even the most seasoned sorcerers.
Aside from the high speed short range movement that can be performed with the Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue, Limitless users can also teleport instantly over long distances. This is made possible by the power of the Limitless to condense space, which decreases the user’s distance from their destination to near zero. Additionally, users can also teleport anyone they are in contact with, or use drawn sorcery circles to teleport additional targets.
Finally, perhaps the most advanced technique of the Limitless is its Domain Expansion known as the Unlimited Void. Activating this ability brings a target into the Domain of the Limitless, where they will be subjected to an endless stream of information that is too vast for their brains to even process, rendering them catatonic. It is one of the most refined Domains in Jujutsu Kaisen, and virtually a guaranteed victory if cast, save for a few exceptional situations such as when pitted against Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine Domain Expansion.
