Mentors in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen are often beacons of guidance and stability in a deadly world. Kento Nanami, of course, is one of them, and there is for them no better example of what a perfect role model is. He is a standout character, and, as a sorcerer and as a mentor, he has two great characteristics that he holds: his calm demeanor and professional approach, let alone his care for his students.

Nanami is the perfect mentor for fans and characters alike: well-read, smart, and calm. Even though he is obviously here to act as a moral anchor in a world of chaos, Nanami’s role goes much further than guidance, and even his presence contributes to giving purpose and enriches the meaning and importance of creating responsibility.

Kento Nanami: The Sigma

Who Is He And What’s His Technique

Close

A Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer who everyone describes as having a very stoic and professional demeanor. Nanami was a student of Tokyo Jujutsu High, and, after losing his friends and comrades, he left being a Jujutsu sorcerer and started working as a salaryman, working a normal job in the corporate sector. But his banality and sense of fulfillment had driven him back to his life as a sorcerer. It wasn’t just a change in careers; it was a quest for meaning.

Where Moderate Effort Will Suffice, Use Moderate Effort

The Ratio Technique is the innate technique of Nanami, by analyzing and creating a ratio on his target into a precise 7:3. Nanami can find the weak points and will deliver devastatingly accurate strikes. Combating curses and enemies was made efficient with this technique, and he became a powerful sorcerer because, sort of like a critical hit in games, it made him deal massive damage to curses even stronger than him. Which, if you think about it, is insane since he was, at the time of his introduction, the record holder of consecutive Black Flashes, which are also critical hits, so a crit on top of a crit! Crit x2, he was probably too overpowered to be left alive!

The Perfect Mentor Everyone Deserves

Nanami’s Role in Yuji’s Growth

Nanami and Yuji

Even when their time together is brief, Nanami’s influence on Yuji Itadori is great. Unlike other people who might just consider Yuji to be just a vessel for Sukuna, he thought of him as a friend and student who not only has potential but is human like the rest. This respect creates a deep, rich mentor-student relationship that builds on trust and subsequent understanding. With Yuji, he taught Nanami to be responsible and to maintain one’s values and not give up even in certain death situations when he saved him from Mahito’s Domain.

The way Yuji understands simple things, his approach when it comes to the sorcerer’s world challenges his calm yet firm way of approaching and also his moral compass. The role that Nanami’s mentorship has in Yuji’s character is that Nanami helps him build his resolve to protect others. Nanami’s relatability makes him truly memorable. Fans love his dry humor and pragmatic outlook; he is one of the most human characters in the series. He is more than a mentor; these qualities make him a character journey that is deeply relatable.

Nanami episode 42

Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, claims to be the most fond of Nanami, not only for his complexity but also for bringing a much-needed balance to the Jujutsu Kaisen story. Somewhat filling the gap between the generation of younger sorcerers. As he wrestles with his own uncertainty, he becomes a fully realized character and acts as a pillar to the next generation. If him killing off his favorite character is not a big red flag for the fate of other characters, then what is?

His legacy in Jujutsu Kaisen went way beyond his appearance in the story. Yuji’s mentorship is profound on his path, passing on commitment and classes that fill in as a piece of the series. You can clearly see the impact his guidance has had on the decisions that Yuji makes and the fact that he still stands fast in the face of every threat till the end. Kento Nanami is a supporting character in Jujutsu Kaisen, but that role doesn’t do it justice. As he is, he is the perfect mentor: always behind you, always remembering your past, and always providing guidance and care to direct you on the right path.

Looking at it from how Yuji Itadori was influenced by Him underscores how transformative a mentor can be and how short of an interaction can have such great effects. What makes Nanami so relatable, so deep, and so loved by both the author and the audience is how solidly he roots himself as one of the most compelling characters in the series.
