Within the world of JJK, Gege introduced the concept of powerful clans. It is unfortunate that this was a half-baked concept and that bad worldbuilding of the series sees to it that the vast majority of elements surrounding these clans never got focused upon. However, fans did know these clans on a surface level, as well as their functioning to quite some extent.

At the beginning of JJK, the Big Three Clans, that is, the Zenin Clan, the Kamo Clan, and of course, the Gojo Clan, were all majestic powerful groups who had quite a grasp on Jujutsu Society as a whole. However, at the end of the series, only the Gojo clan stood tall, with the other two receiving one setback after another.

The Gojo Clan remains to be mysterious in JJK. It can be said that out of all three clans, fans know the least about the Gojo Clan, for one reason or another. The only character that fans know and even care about from the Gojo clan is none other than Gojo Satoru, the guy who served as the head of the Gojo clan for the vast majority of JJK. He is possibly the only reason why the Gojo clan was as important and JJK as it was. While the Gojo clan was massive before Satoru was born, it goes without saying that he propelled them to the next level as he was the strongest modern sorcerer, and if he wished, he could have essentially eliminated just about anyone in Japan. As such, his high level of power and invincibility saw to it that the Gojo client enjoyed quite a lot of power. But, their luck didn’t last for the entirety of the series.

Towards the end of JJK, Gojo ended up fighting Sukuna, which many fans had already anticipated. This clash was incredibly exciting, and it is safe to say that both of these individuals were equally matched. However, the fact that Sukuna had access to the 10 Shadows Technique on top of his own Shrine saw to it that Gojo ended up losing not just the battle, but also his life. Gojo ended up dying in JJK chapter 236 and this was a hard pill for the fans to swallow.
Just like the fans, the members of the Gojo clan also suffered adversely with Gojo’s death, given that he was the most powerful of them all, and at the same time, had propelled them to great heights. Fans even wondered whether the Gojo clan would essentially be destroyed after Satoru’s death. However, it is clear that that did not come to pass for a very key reason.

While the Gojo Clan suffered quite a bit in JJK, the other two clans weren’t better off either. The Zenin Clan, which was revealed to be very important throughout the first few arcs of JJK, was essentially wiped out, all by a single person. This person, as some fans might know, was none other than Maki Zenin. At first, Maki intended to rise to the top of the Zenin and change the clan from the inside out. However, things did not come to pass in the way that she intended. Maki eventually ended up walking down the path where she carried out the will of her sister and annihilated the entire client with her newly awakened powers. Maki destroyed the curse of the clan and set herself free, becoming a mighty individual, just as strong as Toji Fushiguro, if not stronger. With the zenin Clan being utterly decimated, fans knew that this group was essentially out of the equation and the power balance in the Jujutsu Society was already altered.

The Kamo Clan, which was certainly very interesting, at least at the very beginning of the series, was dealt some very heavy blows as well. This clan was essentially infiltrated by none other than Kenjaku and destroyed from the inside out. The successor to the clan, Noritoshi, was removed from the position of heir, and he ended up leaving Japan with his family, living a happy life elsewhere. Kenjaku was the head of the Clan, and as fans know, he ended up meeting his end in the Shinjuku Showdown arc. With Kenjaku’s death, the Kamo Klan was left with no known members, and, because of that, was essentially wiped out as well.

Clearly, two of the three major clans were essentially decimated by the time of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc of JJK. This was also hinted at during a flashback, where Mei Mei clearly spoke of the Gojo Clan and the Kamo Clan essentially facing destruction in this final battle. While Mei Mei was partially correct in that the Kamo Clan was dealt terrible blows, what she did not anticipate was the Gojo Clan surviving the fatal blow that it received and surviving even the death of Gojo Satoru.

Evidently, Gojo’s death meant that the clan was not as powerful as before. However, the destruction of the Zenin Clan, and at the same time, the apparent annihilation of the Kamo Clan meant that even a weakened Gojo Clan could survive. On top of that, fans knew that the Gojo Clan did not leave it too late to appoint a new leader. Although fans don’t know exactly when they got a new leader, what is clear is that by the year 2035, the Gojo clan had already elected Yuta as the acting head. Of course, Yuta is not a member of the Gojo clan. However, he does share blood with Gojo through Michizane no Sugawara, as stated previously in the story.
On top of that, Yuta is Gojo’s protege, and these reasons could have potentially been why he became the acting head of the Gojo Clan. Even in 2080, Yuta had a lot of his belongings in the Gojo clan storage facility, which meant that even at this point, he was the acting leader of the clan and that the Gojo Clan had essentially been restored to power. Given his level of strength, it doesn’t surprise the fans that the Gojo clan ended up surviving and became the strongest known clan in JJK come the end of the story.
Of course, it is also possible that the other clans ended up restoring themselves to power as well, but even if they did, they would not be strong enough to match the Gojo clan, who, at this point, had Yuta leading them, with the power of Rika, and of course, possibly Maki being inducted into it as well through a potential marriage to Yuta.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Epilogue was released with its Final Volume. JJK’s Final volume is out in Japan on December 25, 2024. The English version of the Volume will be published at some point in 2025.
