Sukuna was stronger than he had ever been when he took over Megumi’s body, but is this form stronger than his original, Heian Era form?
Highlights
- Sukuna grows to control Megumi’s body, becoming the strongest character in the series after defeating Gojo and Yurozu with ease.
- His true form, terrifying and physically imposing, showcases his unmatched power against top-ranked sorcerers, defeating each one effortlessly.
- Sukuna’s immense Cursed Energy, mastery of Jujutsu, and unique techniques make both forms formidable adversaries in Jujutsu Kaisen.
From the very first episode of Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna was built up as the big bad of the franchise and the strongest sorcerer in history. After taking over Yuji’s body, he would fight against Megumi a few times, displaying a strange interest in the young sorcerer that would initially confuse many fans of the series, especially right before his fight with Mahoraga, where he saved Megumi from dying. Eventually, Sukuna’s interest in Megumi was made clear in Chapter 212 of the manga.
Following this chapter, Sukuna eventually grows to control Megumi’s body completely. In doing so, he becomes far stronger than fans had seen him before, using his immense Cursed Energy and depth of knowledge to make the Ten Shadows Technique far more dangerous than it was with Megumi. After his fight with Gojo, Sukuna reverted to his true form, so let’s see which version of the King of Curses is the stronger one in Jujutsu Kaisen.

The Case For Megumi’s Vessel
First Appearance | Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 212, “The Ripening, Part 2” |
---|---|
Debut Date | February 6, 2023 |
After taking over Megumi’s body, Sukuna was more powerful than he had ever been before. However, to gain full control over the body to prevent Megumi’s soul from fighting back against him as Yuji would, Sukuna needed to break his spirit completely, which he did by turning on his friends and killing his sister.
This version of Sukuna could utilize all of his Cursed Energy, which is incredible due to Sukuna having one of the highest in the whole series. Due to his mastery and knowledge of Jujutsu, Sukuna used the Ten Shadows technique to its fullest potential, forming the same Shikigami as Megumi, but making them far larger and more powerful. He could also use them very differently in combat.
Notable Feats
The most impressive feat of this form is also arguably the most impressive feat in all of Jujutsu Kaisen. It was in this form that Sukuna was able to defeat Satoru Gojo in one of the most legendary fights ever put on manga panels, as they both fought with everything they had. Gojo used his Limitless Cursed Technique to the max and Sukuna perfected his usage of the Ten Shadows along with his own Dismantle and Cleave technique, only barely defeating Gojo by using Mahoraga to bypass Infinity.
This alone puts this version of Sukuna as the strongest character in the series, but even before his battle with Gojo, Sukuna used this form to kill Yurozu, an extremely powerful Ancient Curse User from the Heian Era. Even a much weaker version of him defeated Yuji and Maki just as he took over Megumi’s body, proving that even when suppressed, no one other than Gojo could really harm him.
Remember when I said we’d see something interesting, boy?
Powers and Abilities:
- Incredible Cursed Energy: Despite being in Megumi’s body, Sukuna retained his massive Cursed Energy reserves that remain one of the greatest in the series.
- Ten Shadows Technique: The Ten Shadows Technique is one of the strongest in Jujutsu Kaisen, but it never saw its full potential with Megumi. With Sukuna’s Cursed Energy, knowledge, and experience, this ability was used to its greatest degree.
- Dismantle and Cleave: Sukuna retains his unique Cursed Technique even in this form and uses it often. He eventually powered up Dismantle by seeing Mahoraga adapting to Infinity.
- Domain Expansion: Even in this form, Sukuna could use his Domain Expansion, Malevolent Shrine, and cast it multiple times against Gojo.
- Reverse Cursed Technique: The ability to heal is needed in the upper tiers of Jujutsu sorcery, and Sukuna uses the RCT perfectly in this form.

The Case For His True Form
First Appearance | Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 3, “For Myself” |
---|---|
Debut Date | March 19, 2018 |
Sukuna’s original form is the one that spread fear to every corner of Japan when he was active in the Heian Era. Starting as a Jujutsu sorcerer, Sukuna would rebel against the world and begin to eat people, eventually transforming himself into a curse that was so powerful that no one else in the entire world could hope to match him. When he became a Special Grade Curse, he sprouted a terrifying new form.
This form made him far taller and much more physically imposing. In this state, he had four arms, various markings all across his body, four eyes, and a huge new mouth across his stomach. While grotesque, this was the perfect form for Jujutsu, as the extra set of arms allows him to make hand signs while fighting, and the extra mouth also helps him to chant incantations that reinforce his attacks without causing damage to his lungs.
Notable Feats
Despite easily defeating all the opponents he faced after his battle with Gojo, the Limitless sorcerer quite clearly stated that the King of Curses was not going all out in their fight. When he finally transformed into this powerful state, he fought and defeated Kashimo, Higuruma, Yuji, Yuta, Rika, and Maki, claiming that none of them gave him the same level of challenge that Gojo did.
After his transformation, it seemed as if his repertoire was reduced as well, as he hasn’t used the Ten Shadows Technique since his fight with Gojo. This form really shows that Sukuna’s true strength is far greater than everyone else’s because, after battling the strongest sorcerer of today, Sukuna still hasn’t been on the back foot even once.
Analyzing Sukuna’s true form with X-rays, Kashimo came to a single conclusion; Utterly Immaculate.
Powers and Abilities
- Incredible Cursed Energy: Sukuna’s Cursed Energy in this form is still incredibly potent, though it is substantially depleted due to his constant fighting against the strongest sorcerers in the world, one after another.
- Dismantle and Cleave: Despite seemingly losing the Ten Shadows Technique, Sukuna’s own Cursed Technique remains his main way of fighting. He even retains the extremely powerful Space Dismantle that he used to kill Gojo in this form.
- Domain Expansion: Sukuna may still be able to summon his Domain Expansion in this form, though he hasn’t done so due to how tired he is from all that fighting.
- Black Flash: In his fight against Maki in Chapter 253, Sukuna uses his exceptional skills as a fighter and sorcerer to land the powerful Black Flash on Maki.
- Reverse Cursed Technique: Sukuna can use RCT in this form as well, reforming limbs and healing from horrible injuries.
