Yuji Itadori and Sukuna have a special connection in JJK.
A lot of interesting things happen in JJK chapter 257, and, by far, the most exciting thing of all was Yuji being able to match and overwhelm Sukuna in combat. In fact, the editor even went on to say that Yuji is actually going to surprise Ryomen Sukuna, which just goes to show that he is going to be the strongest sorcerer in history, and this is certainly an exciting development in the story.
Yuji’s Awakening
Yuji’s Awakening Pushed Him To A New Level
Yuji Itadori was due for an awakening. This is something that the fans knew would happen at some point, given that he’s the protagonist of the story, and at the same time, he is yet to play a major role in the battle against Sukuna. Fans already know that Sukuna is incredibly powerful, and his battle against Gojo proved that. After the battle with Sukuna wrapped up, fans felt almost as if Sukuna was unbeatable. This was especially true because he kept getting stronger as more time passed as he gained more cursed energy and got sharper.
However, Yuji’s awakening changed things in JJK chapter 256. Yuji managed to awaken his true powers and, with that, he connected an incredibly strong black flash with the King of Curses. As soon as that happened, Yuji’s true potential was unlocked, and fans saw what he was truly capable of in battle. JJK chapter 257 gave fans a proper glimpse of Yuji’s awakening, and it was surely very scary.
Drawn out by the awakened state achieved through Black Flash, the technique engraved upon the reincarnated body of Ryomen Sukuna, “Shrine.”
It is safe to say that Yuji Itadori is on a very high level at this point in the story. Yujii possesses tremendous strength up his sleeve, and this comes from two different cursed techniques. The first cursed technique was what he obtained after eating the Death Paintings 4 to 9. These Death Paintings gave him tremendous strength, and the ability to utilize Blood Manipulation. Although Yuji has not mastered this cursed technique right now, he will go on to master it eventually, making him a very powerful individual. However, that is not the essence of Yuji’s awakening. Yuji’s true awakening was shown to the fans in chapter 257, and it is this awakened state that has actually gone on to tip the scales in the battle against Sukuna.
Yuji’s New Powers
Yuji Finally Has Access To The Shrine
Yuji has awakened new powers in JJK, and this was evident from JJK chapter 257, when he launched black flashes against Sukuna. In fact, Yuji actually managed eight black flashes in succession, which is nothing short of staggering. Even Sukuna had no idea as to how this was even possible. Above all, Sukuna was scared of Yuji using his very own cursed technique, and that is the Shrine. The shrine is a powerful cursed technique that allows Sukuna the power to use Cleave and Dismantle effortlessly. Now, as confirmed in JJK chapter 257, Yuji can use it too. Even though his version of Shrine is very different from that of Sukuna, it is still just as powerful, and eventually, it will grow to be the cursed technique worth having. Yuji could potentially even pull out a domain expansion. For now, Yuji is completely overwhelming Sukuna in battle, and this is being done through a combination of the Shrine cursed technique, and at the same time, the ability to hit black flashes seemingly at will.

Itdaori’s newly unlocked Shrine cursed technique will turn the tides in JJK.
It must be noted that Yuji hasn’t even utilized his entire skill set. He did not make use of the blood manipulation curse technique at all in the previous chapter. At the same time, Yuji also did not make use of the stronger attacks from the Shine technique. The only thing that he was solely relying on in JJK 257 was the power to hit black flashes seemingly at will. It is a fact that Yuji will go on to incorporate his cursed technique more as the battle continues in the next few chapters. As such, fans need to be wary of what Yuji will be able to do when he unleashes his full power in the upcoming few chapters.
Yuji Confirmed To Surpass Ryomen Sukuna
Yuji Will Go On To Match And Surpass The King Of Curses
Close
Towards the end of JJK chapter 257, Yuji was confirmed to have the same potential as Ryomen Sukuna. In fact, Sukuna himself commented on the fact that Yuji was trying to get to his level. To make things even crazier, the editor himself confirmed that Yuji was not just trying to get on Sukuna’s level, but actually surpass him. This was evident in the chapter, and fans were incredibly excited to see Yuji hold the upper hand in the battle for once. It was incredibly exciting for the fans to see Yuji with his newfound powers overpowering Sukuna, and no reader expected this.
From here onwards, fans will most definitely get to see Yuji get stronger and stronger with each passing chapter. Given that the editor himself has confirmed that Yuji is attempting to surpass Sukuna, fans can rest assured that he will surpass him come the end of this incredible arc of JJK. Although, at one point, fans expected Sukuna to actually win the Shinjuku Showdown, now, it appears that this major battle will end in the victory of Yuji and the other sorcerers. Yuji is going to be the strongest sorcerer and this is down to the fact that he has two techniques now, and at the same time, the ability to seemingly hit black flashes at will. If that wasn’t enough, then fans should keep in mind that Yuji will most likely awaken a strong domain expansion as well. With that, he will reach and surpass Sukuna’s level, and, clearly, become the strongest sorcerer, potentially in history.
Another aspect that fans need to consider is Yuji manifesting more than one domain expansion. Although that isn’t common in the series at all, Yuji actually has two cursed techniques and the ability to master both of them. In fact, he could have a blood domain, as well as Malevolent Shrine, which was manifested by Sukuna on many occasions. With powers such as these, there is no surprise that Yuji can actually go on to reach incredibly high levels as a sorcerer, and that is something that fans are incredibly excited to see.
Don’t just match the King. Surpass him!
All that, when combined with the ability to potentially hit black flashes at will, makes Yuji the strongest sorcerer in JJK by far once he reaches his peak. His battle against Sukuna will be the first step for him to reach that level, and from there onwards, he will continue to grow even stronger. These major developments have the fans incredibly excited, and hopefully, from here onwards, JJK is only going to get better.
Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258, is set to be April 28, 2024.
