Here’s a closer look at Yuji Itadori’s hidden power that shocked the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna.
Highlights
- Yuji’s greatest strength lies in his extreme growth in combat, showing remarkable improvement in a short time.
- Despite being relatively new to the jujutsu world, Yuji impressively managed to make the King of Curses bleed.
- Yuji’s rapid growth is attributed to his hard work, innate potential from his unique lineage, and body forged by Sukuna.
Although Yuji Itadori is the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen, many viewers end up liking and rooting for other characters such as Megumi Fushiguro or Satoru Gojo instead. After all, unlike those two, Yuji doesn’t have any innate technique that sets him apart from the other jujutsu sorcerers. For all intents and purposes, he is just a gutsy newcomer to the world of cursed spirits.
However, recent chapters make it clear that there is more to Yuji than meets the eye. This stubborn young man actually has a great power that not many people realize. Among those who silently recognize Yuji’s power is none other than the King of Curses himself, Ryomen Sukuna. So what is that hidden power?

Binding Vow is the only Cursed Technique that even Sukuna can’t break. Here’s a closer look at it.
Extreme Growth
Long story short, Yuji Itadori’s greatest strength is his absurd growth in combat. Be it basic martial arts techniques or cursed energy manipulations, Yuji has shown remarkable growth in both. It might seem like years have gone by, but it actually hasn’t been that long since Yuji found out about the existence of Cursed Spirits and Cursed Energy. It’s almost unthinkable how much he improved in such a short amount of time.
It Hasn’t Been That Long
According to the official timeline, Yuji Itadori met Megumi Fushiguro and learned about Cursed Spirits sometime around June. Six months later, he engages in a deathly hand-to-hand combat against the King of Curses.
As if that is not impressive enough, Yuji actually managed to make Sukuna bleed. That is such an unbelievable feat for somebody who is basically a newcomer to the world of Curses. Yes, Yuji has stumbled and tasted humiliating defeats multiple times throughout his short journey, but it doesn’t change the fact that he has one of the most, if not the most, impressive growth in the history of the jujutsu world.

Reverse Cursed Technique and Consecutive Black Flashes
Some of Yuji Itadori’s most notable achievements happen in recent chapters. During his fight against Sukuna, Yuji managed to pull off two of the most complex techniques that only elite jujutsu sorcerers in the world can do, the Reverse Cursed Technique and Consecutive Black Flashes.
In this fight, Sukuna managed to land countless cuts and slashes on Yuji, yet the young man can always heal himself every time. Rather than backing down, however, Yuji launched counterattacks in the form of seven consecutive black flash punches that deeply hurt Sukuna. Needless to say, the King of Curses is perplexed over Yuji’s shocking performance.
The Secret Behind Yuji’s Rapid Growth
So what is the secret behind Yuji’s puzzling rapid growth? Did he learn a secret technique that allows him to be better at a faster rate than everybody else? Or maybe he found a cursed tool that can help him achieve rapid growth? The answer is neither. There are two reasons behind Yuji’s mind-blowing improvement. The first one is quite simple and straightforward, but the second one is quite surprising.
Hard Work and Determination
Yuji realizes that he has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to stand on the same battlefield as his peers. That’s why the moment he enters Tokyo Jujutsu High, he works hard to learn everything he can from professional sorcerers like Satoru Gojo, Yuta Okkotsu, Kento Nanami, and Masamichi Yaga, and also from fellow students like Megumi Fushiguro, Maki Zen’in, Panda, and Aoi Todo, just to name a few.
Not only that, he also never hesitated to dive headfirst into battle, be it against other jujutsu sorcerers or evil cursed spirits. Thanks to that, Yuji has accumulated hours of combat experience under his belt, which helped him improve tremendously. He has done a lot more in six months than regular jujutsu sorcerers in years.
Sukuna operated his technique in your body. Which means your body remembers using extreme special grade jutsu. You can thank him for your exceptionally quick understanding and growth.
–Atsuya Kusakabe, Chapter 258
Sukuna’s Role in Yuji’s Growth
Apart from Yuji’s obvious and relentless hard work, there’s another surprising revelation that helps explain his apparent super growth. Yuji spent most of the series as Sukuna’s vessel. During those times, the King of Curses has taken over the young man’s body several times. On each occasion, Sukuna fought to his heart’s content using his signature martial arts and jujutsu techniques.
This repeated exposure inevitably leads to Yuji’s body having adapted to Sukuna’s high-level technique. He is like a white belt in a black belt’s body. So all he needs to do is simply hone his combat technique in order to take full advantage of his supercharged physical prowess.

Surprising Lineage
Yuji Itadori’s near-obsessive hard work and supercharged body may explain why he has such mind-boggling growth. However, there’s another shocking secret that also contributes highly to Yuji’s innate potential, which is his lineage. Or to be more specific, the genetic cheat code that he receives from his parents.
The Secret of Yuji’s Mother
Character name | Kaori Itadori |
---|---|
First Appearance | Chapter 143 |
Release Date | March 22, 2021 |
It has been repeatedly suggested that Yuji’s mother, Kaori Itadori, was actually Kenjaku all along. She had the same scar marks on her forehead as Geto, who is the current host of Kenjaku’s brain. Choso, a cursed spirit who is an incarnation of a Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, considers Yuji as his brother because the Cursed Womb was created by Kenjaku, which makes them effectively siblings.
Finally, Sukuna confirmed Kenjaku’s past lives as Kaori in recent chapters. Many people speculated that the reason why Kenjaku took over Kaori’s body was to gain access to her powerful cursed technique, the Antigravity System. However, recent revelations suggest that it was actually much more complex than that.
The Secret of Yuji’s Father
Character Name | Jin Itadori |
---|---|
First Appearance | Chapter 143 |
Release Date | March 22, 2021 |
In recent chapters, Sukuna explains to Uraume that he was supposed to be born as a twin, but Sukuna killed his own twin in order to make himself stronger. According to him, the soul of his twin managed to escape and slipped into another person’s body and continued to live a normal life. Yuji’s father, Jin Itadori, was likely a descendant of Sukuna’s twin.
This explains why Sukuna feels at home when he is sealed inside Yuji, and also why there are traces of Sukuna’s power in Yuji. Sukuna even goes as far as saying that the reason why Kenjaku, in the body of Kaori, married Jin Itadori was to conceive a human that had the potential to defeat Sukuna. So in a way, Yuji is Kenjaku’s backup plan in his effort to defeat Sukuna.
With the combination of his hard work, innate potential from his unique lineage, and a body that has been incidentally forged by Sukuna, it’s no wonder Yuji managed to show one of the biggest, if not the biggest, combat improvements in the history of Jujutsu World. Thanks to this rapid growth, by the time Yuji gets the chance to fight against Sukuna, he successfully makes the King of Curses bleed.
