That is exactly what Yuji must be looking to do in JJK and it appears that with the conclusion of JJK chapter 256, he has successfully done it now. As was confirmed towards the end of the chapter, Yuji has now received an Awakening.

Yuji Has Recently Awakened His Cursed Technique
Yuji Itadori has received several powers throughout the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. The training that he did prior to this arc has taken him to an entirely new level. The first ability that fans saw him utilize in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc was the power of Reverse Cursed Technique. He utilized this power against Sukuna, the King of Curses, when his back was against the wall. Much to the surprise of Sukuna himself, Yuji could heal very efficiently. Even when he was hit by Dismantle attacks from point-blank range, which were previously thought to be life-threatening, Yuji was able to recover multiple times, and that was truly incredible growth for his character. However, while reverse cursed technique is exceptional for him to have, his offensive output still leaves a lot to be desired. This had to be fixed by the author, and he certainly did that very well by giving Yuji the power of Blood Manipulation.

As has been seen over the course of the raid against Sukuna, Yuji has utilized the power of Blood Manipulation on many occasions. Yuji can use his blood in many ways. For instance, he was seen spitting his blood on Sukuna’s face and making it explode from a distance, causing him some injuries. Later down the line, Yuji also controlled the flow of his blood through his body, which aided him in healing himself properly. Most recently, Yuji utilized a very incredible power that belongs to Blood Manipulation, and that is Piercing Blood. By sticking his palms together, Yuji was able to shoot out a powerful concentrated string of blood that travels at the speed of sound. This attack was able to graze even Sukuna, and injure him greatly.
This goes to show that Yuji has attained great powers in the Shinjuku Showdown arc already, however, he’s still not at his peak. All this happened before Yuji achieved his Awakening, and now, he has received new powers that fans are eagerly waiting to see in the story.

Yuji Itadori Has Awakened After Hitting A Black Flash
Towards the end of JJK chapter 256, Yuji finally awakened. Much to the surprise of the fans, Yuji was growing in battle despite being weakened by the King of Curses. This came at a time when Sukuna managed to land his fourth black flash, and, immediately after, Yuji did the unthinkable and retaliated with one of his own. No sorcerer expected Yuji to land a powerful black flash against Sukuna at this point in the battle. However, surpassing all expectations, he did just that. As soon as Yuji landed a black flash, fans could tell that this was something different. This black flash was not like any other that the fans have seen before, and it certainly shook the King of Curses, and sent him flying. To Yuji, however, this was an eye-opening event. As soon as Yuji hit the black lash, something in his body changed, and the author then went on to confirm that Yuji has now achieved an awakening.

It goes without saying that Yuji deserves an awakening here. For one, he is nowhere close to the level of the King of Curses, and secondly, his level of strength is rather underwhelming when compared to other side characters as well. Yuji needed a bunch of power-ups in order to be more interesting again, and the author has now provided him with one.

There are many powers that Yuji’s awakening could turn out to be. The very first ability that fans can think of is, of course, unlocking the full power of Blood Manipulation. This would mean that Yuji could get a Blood Domain, and in the battle against Sukuna, manifest it properly, weakening the King of Curses greatly. This will essentially make Yuji the greatest user of Blood Manipulation that the fans have seen in the story so far, even though there have been other individuals who have utilized this power before. Use of blood manipulation could make him a very powerful sorcerer and one who could force Sukuna on the back foot once again.
In Shibuya, Mahito had a feeling Itadori would use Black Flash…and now, Sukuna is experiencing a similar feeling.
While this is certainly a great idea, it is not set in stone, and it is possible that the author could come up with something else entirely for his Awakening. An intriguing idea is for Yuji to get the cursed technique of none other than Sukuna. Fans know that Sukuna and Yuji shared a body, and according to Gojo, Yuji’s body can get used to Sukuna’s cursed technique. This means Yuji was fully expected to be able to utilize cursed techniques such as Cleave, Dismantle, and Malevolent Shrine, among others, later down the line. He has not shown the ability to utilize these techniques so far. However, with this Awakening, it is possible that Yuji can now do it. If that were to be the case, then Sukuna would be up against his own cursed technique, and it would cause him a tremendous amount of trouble, which is something that fans would be very interested in seeing.
The idea of gaining a Blood Domain or control over Sukuna’s technique is certainly exciting for the fans. However, there is yet another possibility that could turn out to be true, and that is the ability to hit black flashes at will. Black Flash is a power that no sorcerer in history can utilize at will. Not even the likes of Gojo and Sukuna could accomplish this feat. However, Yuji could become the very first sorcerer who can utilize black flash at will, and that would make him one of the most overpowered characters in the entire series. Of course, how Yuji would pull this off is something that fans need to sit back and patiently wait to see.
It is not going to be easy for him to pull this off, and it is certainly something that the author would need to explain properly in his story. Still, the idea of Yuji being able to hit black flashes at will is a very exciting one, and it would go perfectly with his fighting style so far, which is, the Divergent Fist.
