Not All the Members of the Demon Slayer Corps Become Hashiras, Here Are a Few Who Never Realized Their Potential
Highlights
- Kaigaku’s betrayal and lack of fighting spirit prevented him from reaching his potential as a demon slayer.
- Takeuchi’s substandard sword skills led him to focus on medical aid, making him one of the weakest slayers.
- Ozaki’s tragic death prevented her from realizing her full potential as a skilled and fierce demon slayer.
The Demon Slayer Corps has defended humanity from demons for centuries. The ancient organization had made countless sacrifices in their selfless and honorable attempts to defeat forces of evil with the hope of restoring order and peace. In their valiant efforts, the most trustworthy and effective combatants have been the Hashiras who represent the pinnacle of courage, dedication, and perseverance.

5 Most Mismatched Fights In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba
Demon Slayer’s fights can vary from being evenly matched contests to brutal displays of power, with some fights being far more lopsided than others.
Unfortunately, very few members of the Demon Slayer Corps ever manage to join the ranks of Hashiras as it requires talent and skills achieved only by a handful. Most demon slayers despite their best efforts lead an ordinary life and never get to taste the success achieved by their higher-ranking peers. Although there is no dearth of poorly skilled demon slayers, here are arguably the weakest ones from the Demon Slayer Corps.

Kaigaku
Jigoro Kuwajima’s Disciple Who Abandoned His Humanity For Power
Soon after his birth, Kaigaku became an orphan and he was forced to rely on petty crimes for self-preservation. The ruthless circumstances he grew up in ended up leaving a lasting impression on him. When his life was in danger at one point in his life, he did not think twice before betraying his peers and leaving them at the mercy of a demon. He later met the former Thunder Hashira Jigoro Kuwajima and became his disciple.
Kaigaku was naturally gifted with the sword and many felt that he was destined to become Jigoro’s successor. But he never developed the fighting spirit needed to get the job done and frequently gave up whenever he was pushed to his limits. Eventually, Kaigaku wasted his potential and never truly became the Thunder Hashira as many had predicted in his early days of training. His career as a demon slayer was nothing to boast about as he barely had any success. To make matters worse, Kaigaku ended up joining the Twelve Kizuki going against the principles of the Demon Slayer Corps and forever tainting his legacy.

Takeuchi
Demon Slayer Who Turned Into a Medic
Takeuchi is a relatively unknown demon slayer who plays an important role during the Infinity Castle Arc and Sunrise Countdown Arc. Although he has passed the Final Selection like his peers, his skills with the sword are supposedly substandard because of which he usually performs medical aid for his comrades. He plays an important role in rescuing Yushiro and Tanjiro during the Final Battle Arc.

5 Best Demon Slayer Arcs In The Manga, Ranked
Every Demon Slayer arc serves a purpose. Some, however, have a bigger emotional or plot impact than others.
Takeuchi’s contribution as a medical helper is significant in the context of the circumstances as they help his peers defeat the Demon King. However, it is quite evident that he never truly managed to become a reliable demon slayer so the Corps entrusted him with other responsibilities. Therefore, it won’t be far-fetched to claim that Takeuchi is probably one of the weakest demon slayers of his generation.

Ozaki
A Promising Demon Slayer Who Died Too Soon To Realize Her Potential
In the Mount Natagumo Arc, Tanjiro and his comrades fought against the Lower Rank Five Rui and his pretend family. Several brave Demon Slayers also participated in the mission. One of these courageous combatants was the promising young fighter named Ozaki. As a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, she was trained for such a mission but things never really unfolded as she would have liked. Soon after arriving at Mount Natagumo, Ozaki was controlled by the Mother of the Spider Family using threads attached to her critical joints. Every movement she made was without her consent and full of malice as they were intended to kill her comrades.
Ozaki being a kind and empathetic young woman, pleaded with fellow demon slayers to stay away from her hoping that help would arrive soon and free her. But that never happened as she was brutally murdered by the Mother of the Spider Family. Ozaki was brave in her last moments and possessed all the traits to become a fierce warrior. However, at the time of her death, she could not even fight back against a somewhat weak demon, which means she died as a vulnerable and weak demon slayer who never realized her true potential.
2
Murata
Despite Passing the Final Selection Along With Tomioka, Murata Failed to Join Higher Ranks
Murata is a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, who joined the ancient organization following the Final Selection in which Sabito singlehandedly eliminated most of the demons. Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka also became a demon slayer in the same year. But despite officially joining the Demon Slayer Corps at the same time, Giyu and Murata’s careers unfolded in markedly distinct directions. While the former ended up becoming the Water Hashira, the latter remained a somewhat ignored member of the Corps.

Demon Slayer’s Twelve Kizuki are incredibly powerful foes, and their Blood Demon Arts play a big role in that. Here’s how their abilities rank.
Interestingly, Murata also fought at Mount Natagumo and displayed exemplary courage when it was extremely critical to hold off his friends who were under a demon’s control. He went on to participate in the Hashira training later on and even worked on his skills alongside Tanjiro and Inosuke. In the Infinity Castle Arc, Murata helped Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Yushiro when they were in a vulnerable situation. Although he did end up making some contribution in the battle against Muzan and his forces, Murata never really became a reliable demon slayer who could fight high-ranked demons.

Aoi Kanzaki
Once a User of Water Breathing, Kanzaki No Longer Wields a Sword
Aoi Kanzaki is an inflexible, strict, and headstrong girl who usually helps demon slayers heal following a challenging and violent battle. She has worked extensively under the watchful eyes of Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho and has the knowledge to concoct medicines on her own. Her treatments have helped Tanjiro and his comrades recover on several occasions. Aoi’s talent is undoubtedly valued in the Demon Slayer Corps, but interestingly she initially did not join as a helper in the Butterfly Mansion.
Once upon a time, Kanzaki dreamt of becoming a demon slayer. She even participated in the Final Selection and survived. Naturally, this qualified her to become a demon slayer but Aoi already understood that the results were just a fluke and she was not cut out for the job. Kanzaki went as far as saying that she merely survived the Final Selection because of pure luck. She appears to have little to no interest in fighting on the frontlines and enjoys her work as a helper.
̌”Compared to you guys, I’m not so important, so thanks aren’t necessary. I survived selection due to pure luck. Since then I’ve been afraid to fight, so I’m a coward.”
