- Season 2 may adapt the game more closely and add creative angles to character narratives.
After that emotional and heart-wrenching season one finale scene with Joel and Ellie, HBO’s The Last of Us season two can’t come quick enough for many fans of the Naughty Dog game adaptation. Now it seems as though sleuths have figured out an actual release date for when viewers will see the return of the post-apocalyptic nightmare.
Praised as one of the best video games ever made, The Last of Us won the hearts of many when it was released on the PlayStation 3 in 2013. Just like the HBO show, the game tells the story of the survivor Joel and orphan Ellie as they band together to make it through the harsh realities of the zombie apocalypse. Claiming a mass of awards, which included Best Animated Video Game, Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing, and Game of the Year, it was clear from the start that Neil Druckmann’s concept was a winning formula. In a bid to match its success and fan appreciation, the sequel, The Last of Us Part 2, was released in 2020, which became an overwhelming accomplishment for the Naughty Dog studio. In an attempt to bring the iconic title to wider TV audiences, the game was adapted by HBO, which proved to be yet another incredible feat for the franchise.

The Last of Us Season 2 Needs To Tell Abby’s Story In The Right Way
As The Last of Us Season 2 gears up for its spring premiere, fans anticipate a faithful adaptation of the events from The Last of Us Part 2. However, uncertainty lingers regarding how closely the show will align with the game’s narrative and whether it will address the challenges of presenting controversial characters like Abby.

The Last of Us Fans Have Predicted Season 2’s Release Date
According to The Last of Us News over on X, season two will reportedly premiere on Sunday, April 13th on HBO and Max. The return of The Last of Us is reportedly also going to only consist of seven episodes, two fewer than what season one had. In the post, the media account expressed that season two would follow one week after the season finale of The White Lotus season three, which occurs on April 6. Even though this is entirely speculation at this point, it certainly does slot in nicely with its recent trailer release date that stated season two of HBO’s The Last of Us would premiere in the month of April.
The Last of Us season two will also likely not get a complete adaptation of the game, as co-creator Craig Mazin previously teased that Part 2’s narrative will span across three seasons. Going by HBO The Last of Us‘ most recent trailer, it seems as though Mazin and Druckmann may have changed the game’s timeline to fit more comfortably into season two, especially when it comes to Abby Anderson. Fans also got to see Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, in a therapy session with Catherine O’Hara’s character, which wasn’t included in the game, so taking creative liberties to add different angles to the character’s narratives will likely be a feature throughout season two.
