10 New York City

8 K’un-Lun

A Mythical City In Its Own Pocket Dimension

Home to the immortal dragon Shou-Lou, K’un Lun in the mystical Kunlun Mountains technically exists in its own space as a pocket dimension. Known as one of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven, K’un-Lun is just one of many cities protecting mystical treasures and secrets that phase in and out of Earth every few or so years. Among these Capital Cities, K’un-Lun has had the most connection to Earth due to the existence of the Iron Fist, its main guardian.

Although other depictions of K’un-Lun saw its invasion at the hands of nefarious organizations such as the Hand, K’un-Lun in the main Marvel Comics continuity has largely been a well-defended city. Its nature as a place existing in its own pocket dimension means it’s much harder to access for villains willing to wreak havoc within it. Moreover, K’un-Lun staying in contact with the other six Capital Cities means help will always be on its way should the need arise.

7 North Salem

Home Of The World’s Best Mutant Defense

While North Salem is technically a town and not strictly a city, its prominence in Marvel Comics can be alluded to as being the home of the X-Men. North Salem being “Mutant HQ” is largely due to the existence of Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters which, upon its destruction, became the home to both Xavier’s School For Higher Learning and Jean Grey School For Higher Learning.

6 Threshold

Considered as the first mutant civilization, Threshold thrived as a colony as early as the Proterozoic Era some 2-billion years before humanity graced Earth. This advanced society was led by two houses: mutants of the Enriched, and humans of the Enshrined. Their peaceful coexistence would prevail against some of the earliest threats Earth faced back then, such as the burgeoning Shi’ar Empire and the underwater Unbreathing.

Threshold would eventually meet its destruction at the hands of Stryfe, Cable’s fellow time-travelling clone. However, what sets Threshold apart from other former civilizations is its existence in a time loop. After Kitty Pryde realized that both present-day Genosha and the first mutant settlement of Threshold would be destroyed, she discovered that she was in charge of the latter’s creation. After placing the genetic material of dead Genoshans into a Mysterium cube, she sent it back in time as the Seed that would lead to the creation of Threshold.

5 Krakoa

Despite Krakoa being no man’s land after the events of Fall of X, it stands as one of mutantkind’s best settlements on Earth compared to all previous attempts. Originally a hostile sentient island, the efforts of Charles Xavier, Magneto, and Moira MacTaggert as well as Cypher and Warlock transformed the living island Krakoa into an island paradise for mutants.

Eventually becoming a mutant democracy and oligarchy, Krakoa became a sovereign nation that became the embodiment of Charles Xavier’s dream of peaceful coexistence between mankind and mutants. This resulted in Inhumans residing in Attilan, a technologically advanced city that had to be relocated a few times after being disturbed by superhuman affairs.

Upon its destruction, Attilan became New Attilan and relocated to the Hudson River. Despite its tendency for relocation, the Inhumans’ possession of advanced tech and the loyalty of the Inhuman Royal Family towards its people has transformed the city into a haven for the Inhuman population. Its small area and dedicated protection from its leadership won’t put New Attilan at risk of being compromised because its protectors had to be called off-world to a mission.

3 Olympia

The New Home Of The Eternals

While the Inhumans lived in their settlement of Attilan, the Eternals had their home of Olympia situated in Greece. This hidden home of the Eternals is its second iteration, as their original home of Titanos was accidentally destroyed. Upon settling in Olympia, the Eternals have stayed here since. Not much is known about Olympia except how it has a rival in the form of Polaria, another Eternal settlement.

Despite Attilan and the Inhumans being the more “popular” variant of life created by the Kree, Olympia stands as the safer city due to its lack of activity in recent comics. Unlike Attilan, which experienced many destructive conflicts, Olympia being governed by the likes of Ikaris makes it an extremely powerful settlement. Moreover, the existence of the Eternals’ Activation Chamber constantly allows them to be resurrected.

2 Birnin Zana

Home Of The Wakandan Royal Family

Despite technological advancements in the Marvel universe, none could compare to the sheer technological sophistication of Wakanda as represented by Birnin Zana, its capital city. While other parts of the African nation are already advanced courtesy of Vibranium, Birnin Zana shines apart from the rest with notable locations such as the Royal Palace of Wakanda where Black Panther resides as well as the Necropolis where he reigns as King of the Dead.

Being a parliament, one can surmise the location should also have its fair share of citizens in charge of maintaining the city. With the gods on their side, no place is likely as safe as Omnipotence City.
