The final fight in the entire saga is currently going on, and it is only a matter of time before that one wraps up as well. This fight has been full of some incredible events that will have lasting repercussions in the world of MHA, and quite easily, the biggest one is the loss of One For All.

In My Hero Academia chapter 421, it was finally officially confirmed that the One For All has been lost forever and that this Quirk is not in possession of the ninth user, Deku, anymore. This is incredibly sad for the fans, and at the same time, they know that this will greatly affect the future of the story as well, in many ways.
Deku Vs Shigaraki
Deku Put His All In An Effort To Understand And Defeat Shigaraki
The Final War Saga was absolutely massive for Deku in many ways. Given that he was the protagonist of the series, fans knew that he had a major responsibility on his shoulders, and that was to fight against Shigaraki. Deku’s fight against Shigaraki was doubly special. The first and the most obvious way the fans knew that it was extremely important was because Shigaraki was the ultimate villain. Deku had to beat Shigaraki in order for peace to triumph and for the hero world to return to the way it was before.
However, an even bigger part of this fight was Deku actually saving Shigaraki. Fans know that Deku wanted to rescue Shigaraki from his own pain. He knew that Shigaraki had a lot of sadness inside of him and that he was actually a tool of All For One who had been exploited right from the get-go. This essentially meant that Deku could actually sense his pain and that he wanted to free him from his misery. Of course, Deku could not erase all the evil that he had done, and that certainly did not mean that helping him would erase that. He would still pay for his mistakes, however, Deku did not want to let him succumb to darkness without aid anymore.
This was the most important thing for Deku to do in the Final War and he certainly did that in a great fashion. As soon as Deku fought against Shigaraki, a clash of ideals took place, and Deku, whom fans know to be absolutely resolute, did not give up on him. Deku did eventually get down to Shigaraki’s core and saw his deepest memories. He essentially defeated Shigaraki in combat, even though it came at a massive price.
The Transfer Of The Vestiges
The Vestiges Of The One For All Were Transferred To Shigaraki
Defeating Shigaraki was incredibly difficult for Deku right from the get-go. Fans knew that he would struggle against him, given his level of strength. However, while using Gear Shift, he was actually superior in battle. Deku was able to dominate him in terms of speed, power, and just about every aspect of battle. However, he was still struggling to do significant damage to him. Shigaraki’s incredible recovery rate meant that Deku could not sustain this for long, especially because Gear Shift was always limited.

As a result, he had to come up with a different strategy, and thanks to Kudo, this strategy was devised. This was directly tied to Deku actually trying to save Shigaraki instead of killing him, and, as a result, the idea of transferring the vestiges to Shigaraki’s body was unearthed. This idea was quite a risk, however, it is one that did work.
All the vestiges that Shigaraki tried to steal, and those that Deku actually wanted to transfer himself, eventually combined and opened up a crack inside of Shigaraki’s deepest memories. His core was essentially what Deku wanted to get to, and he certainly managed to do that. Deku got to see his deepest memories after transferring all the Quirks inside of him with his blows, and that is when he saw the pain that Shigaraki went through as a child, the manipulation that he faced, and just about everything that he had to go through to get to the point where he was at in this fight.

At this point, Deku had already lost all the vestiges inside of him and was left with the power of the One For All alone. However, his arms, as well as the One For All crumbled in the end. This happened when All For One came back to life, and Shigaraki was consumed by his own memories and saw the truth for what it was.

Deku ended up losing both of his arms in this fight, and, at the same time, the power of One For All was lost as well, along with that of all other vestiges. All For One lamented the fact that the One For All was gone, and he also knew that Decay was no more either. Shigaraki himself crumbled after realizing that he was just a pawn for All For One and that nothing that he ever did was done through his own decisions. Even the Quirk that he was given to destroy was planted by All For One, and essentially, his life was one big tragedy.
I might not have had it for long, but it’s taken root in my quirkless self.
Meanwhile, fans saw Deku in the real world, without any arms and on the brink of death. Thankfully, Eri’s powers helped Deku rewind to a few minutes before. However, the power of One For All was not going to return and that was confirmed by Deku himself. Even though Deku was reversed to his previous state, all he had inside of him now were the embers of One For All. It is using these embers that he now has to fight against All For One and defeat him.
This is something very similar to what All Might did long ago in Kamino when he fought against All For One. Using the embers, he was able to defeat All For One, go beyond all his limits, and establish a new era. Now, Deku must follow in his footsteps and do the same. Deku is going to be a Quirkless hero from here onwards, and while that is sad, it is also incredible that he saved the entire world, and ended up giving up his power for the greater good.
Of course, the task of defeating All For One Still remains. However, even that is not going to bring back One For All. There might be a chance for One For All to return to Deku using some unique ways in the story, however, whether the author wants to go down that path or not remains to be seen. For now, fans should stick to the idea of a Quirkless Deku from here onwards, and that is surely going to be very intriguing to witness.
