My Hero Academia Chapter 421: The End Of One For All
Heroes come to the aid of Deku in the final fight in MHA 421.
Of course, last week, My Hero Academia fans got another emotional shocker as Deku finally revealed that he had essentially given up the power of the One For All for good. This is quite a bittersweet parting that fans did not expect to see here. However, it is one that might not be permanent, after all.
How Deku Lost The One For All
Deku Has Officially Given Up The Power Of One For All
Deku losing the power of the One For All is something that many fans had theorized right from the beginning. This is because Deku was confirmed to be the last user of the One For All, and at the same time, many fans generally believed in the idea that quirks would cease to exist come the end of the story. This would mean that Deku would go on to become a Hero without a Quirk. It was also an interesting idea to see Deku be a Hero without any Quirk whatsoever at the end of the series, just as he started the story. This would see Deku follow in the footsteps of All Might, who is held as the savior of the world, regardless of having this Quirk for a very short period of time.
Izuku Midoriya…Look what you’ve done to my One For All…and dear Yoichi…!!
That said, many fans did not agree with this idea, and for the right reasons. Deku being Quirkless would mean that he would essentially fail his dream of becoming the Number One Hero in the world. Yes, Deku is the strongest in the world right now and he is the savior of the world, which is far more important than being the number one, however, at the end of the day, this boy does still dream of becoming the Number One, and being the Symbol of Peace for many years to come, which he cannot do if he is Quirkless.
Just as the fans expected, the author, Kohei Horikoshi, decided to make Deku Quirkless by making him give up all his power. This was done in order to take down Shigaraki, and for Deku to get deep inside his memory and see what exactly happened to him long ago. Deku gave up the power of every vestige, one after the other, eventually being left with nothing but One For All. In the end, Deku also ended up giving the One For All up and this Quirk is now essentially gone.
Deku himself confirmed in My Hero Academia chapter 421 that he gave up the power of the One For All, and that all the vestiges that were inside him, along with One For All were all gone as well. Deku is truly Quirkless right now, and he still intends to fight against All For One with what little power he has left.
I might not have had it for long, but it’s taken root in my quirkless self.
This is made possible due to Deku having wisps of this power inside of him. Fans know when All Might transferred the One For All to Deku, he still had embers of the power inside of him. Similarly, now, Deku has embers of this power inside of him as well and they will likely burn out very soon. Before they burn out, Deku has to make the best use of them and take down the greatest evil, All For One.
Shigaraki’s Suppressed Being And The Return Of One For All
Shigaraki’s Role In The Return Of One For All Could Be Vital
Of course, the pathway here looks quite clear. The Heroes will help Deku to fight All For One to a certain extent, and Deku will use the embers of his power to finally land the finishing blow and defeat him. This will see Deku being hailed as the savior of the world, but it will also see him become Quirkless at the end of things. That said, there is another interesting aspect of the story that the fans might not have considered. The first thing that the readers need to keep in mind is that Deku transferred over the vestiges and One For All to Shigaraki in his body.

My Hero Academia: Every Character That Surpassed All Might
These MHA characters managed to surpass the Number 1 Hero, All Might.
He was not aware of All For One’s existence inside, and he knew that All For One was completely destroyed by Shigaraki mentally. Right now, a part or essence of the One For All should still exist inside of Shigaraki, regardless of whether All For One can make use of it or not. It is also possible for Shigaraki to protect this Quirk by himself, even though he is currently being suppressed by All For One.
As long as i’ve got the ember, All For One has got me to deal with.
As this fight between Deku and All For One continues, fans might get to see Shigaraki at some point. He might try to fight back and take control of his body, especially when Deku weakens All For One greatly. In the end, Deku will give a helping hand to aid Shigaraki. When he does that, he will have to push back against All For One, and when he does push back, then, the possibility for the return of One For All emerges.

Close
If One For All truly is safe in some way or form inside of Shigaraki’s body, then, this transfer can once again take place and Deku could regain this power once again. It would certainly not take anything away from Deku. For one, he would still have to defeat All For One with the wisps of the power inside of him. It will still see Deku’s sacrifice holding all the importance that it needs. Above all, it would give Deku the tools to become the Number One Hero in the world. Above all, this is something that Deku deserves.
He is a character who has trained ridiculously hard to fit the mold and fill into the shoes of All Might. Deku has been through tremendous pain and for him to end up Quirkless and weaker than everyone else is certainly not fair to him. Of course, Deku is a character who does not care about all that. As long as his loved ones are safe and people are living in a world where villains do not terrorize them, Deku will be happy.
However, as a character, Deku deserves everything good, especially knowing his selfless nature and what he has been through. The return of One For All is certainly something that he deserves. Deku wants to become the Symbol of Peace and this dream must not be shattered at any cost. Deku needs to become the number one not just for the world, but for himself, and to deliver to the fans a satisfying ending as well.
