After years upon years, Masashi Kishimoto finally returned to Shonen Jump with the Minato one shot, a spin-off manga based on the 4th Hokage, Minato Namikaze. The manga focused on the early life of the Fourth Hokage when he was still a growing shinobi. It threw a lot of focus on the creation of the Rasengan, a jutsu that he came to be renowned for. While the vast majority of the focus in the manga was on Minato, a surprisingly good amount of focus was also thrown on his future wife, Kushina Uzumaki.
Fans know the original series didn’t focus much on her, however, Kishimoto made sure that fans realize how powerful the Red Hot Habanero, Kushina Uzumaki, truly was.
Proficiency With Sealing Jutsu
Kushina belonged to the Uzumaki Clan, which meant that her proficiency with Sealing Jutsu was incredibly high. While the original story did not paint an idea of how strong this skill of hers was, the Minato one-shot remedied that by showing the fans that Kushina actually used to train Minato in the arts of Sealing Jutsu. While Minato was a great ninja on his own, even a genius such as himself could not compete against Kushina when it came to Sealing jutsu. Her skill and knowledge in these arts were in a league of her own and the future Hokage was not shy to ask her for help.
By the point when Kushina and Minato meet for the first time, it is established in the manga that they train for quite regularly and that Kushina had already taught him several Sealing Jutsu. Kushina went on to say that Minato is a very fast learner, however, there are some other techniques that she wants him to try out. This just goes to show that her Sealing Jutsu prowess might just be one of the very best in the entire series. There are only a handful of Shinobi in the ninja world capable of matching Kushina when it comes to Sealing Jutsu.
In fact, even the First Hokage, Hashirama Senju, wasn’t able to match up to the might of the Uzumaki Clan members when it comes to Sealing Jutsu. That is precisely why he sought out Ashina Uzumaki during his times and Kushina having such immense knowledge in these arts only means that she is one of the best, if not the very best, when it comes to these arts and, thankfully, the Minato one shot focused on this aspect of her character quite a lot.
Adamantine Sealing Chains
Among the many Sealing Jutsu that were seen in the Minato one shot, one particular power that was focused on quite a lot was the Adamantine Sealing Chains which were used extensively by Kushina Uzumaki throughout the one shot. Fans have also seen her use this skill in the original manga on the night of the attack of the Nine Tails. However, a good look was provided in the Minato one shot where it was revealed that this skill of Kushina is growing stronger by the year.
Orochimaru goes on to say in the original manga that this is a special ability that only awakens within the Uzumaki women and it is powerful enough to bind Tailed Beasts on its own. Kushina was able to use these chains to bind the ANBU members who were supposed to watch her, even though she was far from a full-fledged Shinobi at that point. Even the ANBU members went on to say that Kushina’s chains are getting stronger with each passing year. Later on, when Kushina was taken over by the Nine-Tails, she used her chains from the inside to bind him and she managed to do so despite not being at her peak.
She then provided Minato with the opportunity to test out his Rasengan for the very first time by keeping a tight bind on Kurama and, thus, saving the day. When she grew up, her Adamantine Chains grew even stronger to a point where even when she had a Tailed Beast extracted from her and was on the verge of death, she could use the chains to bind a full-fledged Tailed Beast, and the strongest of them all, Kurama.
Uzumaki Life Force
Being a member of the Uzumaki Clan, Kushina also possessed a tremendous life force. She has incredible chakra and, at the same time, her life force might be one of the strongest seen in the series. Minato one shot brought this up once again when Kushina was engaging in a conversation with Mito Uzumaki. The latter went on to mention that the members of the Uzumaki Clan are especially known for their incredible life forces and their massive chakra reserves. Fans already know in the case of Mito Uzumaki that she was incredibly adept at manipulating her chakra, evident from her Byakugou seal, and, at the same time, the fact that she managed to live for so long.
However, according to Mito, Kushina was already better than her, indicated by her saying that Kushina’s hair is redder than hers ever was. Essentially, Kushina was a blooming shinobi who would, one day, go on to surpass Mito Uzumaki and become one of the strongest kunoichi in the history of Konoha. Fans know Kushina dreamed to be Hokage of the village so that everyone would acknowledge her and, had she grown up to meet her potential, fans could have easily seen this become a reality.
Her incredible chakra reserves would only have grown with each passing year and her life force would certainly have been the best scene in the entire story. In the original manga, Kushina had enough power to stay standing even after having her Tailed Beast extracted from her. What’s more, she continued to fight after having Kurama removed from her body, while everyone else facing a similar situation just died. Even though Naruto Uzumaki was blessed with immense chakra and power, he simply collapsed when Kurama was extracted from him in the war, which just goes to show that Kushina’s life force and chakra reserves were in a league of her own.
The Power Of The Nine Tails
The strongest asset that Kushina had up her sleeve was certainly the power of the Nine Tails. Kushina was not fully able to control the Tailed Beast, however, she was incredibly dangerous when utilizing its powers. When she stepped out of Konoha and Kurama took over her body, Kushina was able to manifest a chakra cloak with several tails immediately and injure even Minato with a single swipe of her hand. Later on, Kushina took on a very sinister form with seven tails, which goes to show that her powers were likely higher than that of a Kage at this point. While Kushina struggled to maintain control of this power from the outside, from the inside, she was engaged in a constant struggle with Kurama and, had she been a bit older, she could, potentially, have won, just as Naruto managed to do later on in his life.
All things considered, Kushina had tremendous power up her sleeve. Her power of the Nine-Tails, which she could harness to some degree, would have been incredibly dangerous to face off against for any shinobi, even those bearing the title of Kage. Her Sealing Jutsu prowess, combined with her incredible life force and chakra reserves as well as the secret power of her Adamantine Sealing Chains make Kushina a very special ninja. Fans are grateful to Kishimoto for giving such focus to her character and can only hope that in the future, at some point, he bases another story on Kushina Uzumaki.
