Kusanagi Was Used By Sasuke And Orochimaru

Sasuke Kusanagi Sword Boruto

First Appearance

Naruto, Episode 71, “An Unrivaled Match: Hokage Battle Royale!”

Notable Users

Sasuke Uchiha, Orochimaru

Originally belonging to one of the 3 Legendary Sannin, Orochimaru, the Kusanagi Blade eventually made its way into the possession of Sasuke Uchiha. This blade was powerful enough to help Orochimaru against the 3rd Hokage and even stood its ground against Naruto in his 4-Tailed Beast mode, where Orochimaru displayed his skill with it as well as the power of the weapon itself. After his defeat, Kusanagi became an essential part of Sasuke’s arsenal that he used until the end of the series.

This is the path I walk. Not you or anyone can change that.

Special abilities and notable feats:

The Kusanagi is known as an extremely formidable weapon for anyone to go against, as it has a reputation of being a sword that can cut through pretty much anything. Sasuke was even able to channel his electricity into the blade to improve its cutting power, and it is also able to be controlled telepathically, making it move without needing to hold it. The blade of the sword can also be extended.

When used in battle, Kusanagi was strong enough to cut through Kubikiribocho, which is an extremely powerful sword in its own right. In Orochimaru’s fight against the 3rd Hokage, the versatility of this weapon was seen when he used it telepathically to stab his opponent through the chest.

Samehada Was A Legendary Blade

Kisame Hoshigaki Samehada (Naruto Shippuden)

First Appearance

Naruto, Episode 81, “Return of the Morning Mist”

Notable Users

Kisame Hoshigaki, Killer B, Mangetsu Hozuki

An ancient weapon passed down from generation to generation, the Samehada is a legendary weapon and also one of the strongest in the entire series. When it eventually found its way into Kisame’s hands, their synergy was so perfect that the weapon’s Chakra signature became identical to that of its wielder, leading to it being called the ‘Tailed Beast without a tail’. After Kisame’s death, the weapon was in the possession of Killer B in the war.

My massive blade, Samehada, doesn’t slice… It shreds to ribbons!

Special abilities and notable feats

Samehada was more of a living thing than a sword; massive in size and possessing a mouth. It was made up of many razor-sharp blades resembling shark scales that could shred pretty much anything down to pieces. The main characteristic of this blade was its ability to absorb and store the Chakra of anyone it was used against upon cutting them, along with its symbiotic relationship to its wielder, as it fed off their Chakra.

In his first few appearances with the blade, Kisame kept the sword wrapped up, despite which it still held destructive capabilities. However, its best use was seen in Kisame’s fight against Killer B, where the sword’s true form was shown for the first time. Samehada was shown to cut through fire and was strong enough to absorb the Chakra of anyone that it went up against. Most impressively, it was shown to absorb a Tailed Beast Ball.

The Totsuka Blade Is Susanoo’s Weapon

Itachi's susanoo with the Totsuka Blade in Naruto: Shippuden

First Appearance

Naruto: Shippuden, Episode 138, “The End”

Notable Users

Itachi Uchiha

While Itachi used his Susanoo, he wielded this powerful and unique weapon. This sword is different from others for quite a few reasons, such as being a massive weapon used by Susanoo, being wreathed in flame, and originally being in a liquid form that is held within a jar of Sake. The blade is formed once the liquid from the jar is poured out and shaped into the form of a blade.

It’s the Totsuka Blade. You’ll be sealed away soon. Any last words?

Special abilities and notable feats

The main ability of this ethereal sword is to seal or trap the person it is used against. Once it pierces an enemy, they are then trapped within the Sake jar in a genjutsu dream state for seemingly all time. Being a sword, and a variant of the Kusanagi, the Sword of Totsuka can also cut through anything, giving it a ton of versatility in combat.

This was a weapon that Orochimaru had sought to use his entire life, but he could never find it. Itachi used the blade to remove the Cursed Seal of Heaven from Sasuke’s body when it was inhabited by Orochimaru, who was then trapped inside the sword, and yet again, to free Nagato’s soul after it was resurrected by Kabuto. Zetsu even stated that when armed with the Totsuka Blade and the Yata Mirror, Itachi’s Susanoo was invincible.

The Sword Of Nunoboko Can Only Be Wielded By Some

Sword of Nunoboko Naruto

First Appearance

Naruto: Shippuden, Episode 384, “A Heart Full With Comrades”

Notable Users

Hagoromo Otsutsuki, Obito Uchiha

Created from the highly formidable Truth-Seeker Orbs, this massive and powerful sword was used by none other than the Sage of the Six Paths himself and was perhaps the strongest sword in the series. This weapon is said to have helped Hagoromo shape the world itself and is so strong that it can destroy anything that it touches, even the world that it helped to create.

It’s a sword of the soul. The Sage created this world using this blade.

Special abilities and notable feats

Not much is known about the abilities of this powerful weapon, only that Obito claimed it to be a holy relic that the Sage of the Six Paths himself used. Due to being made of the Truth-Seeker Orbs, the sword held unrivaled destructive potential and was stated to be powerful enough to easily destroy the entire world.

While the sword itself was undoubtedly powerful, Obito never really used it properly or to its full extent, as it was destroyed by Sasuke’s Susanoo. It should be noted that it easily defeated Sasuke’s Susanoo earlier on, but was then destroyed when it was reinforced with senjutsu and the chakra from the Nine-Tails.

Naruto can be streamed on Amazon Prime and Crunchyroll.
