During the 3rd Ninja War, Obito Uchiha gave his left eye to Hatake Kakashi. It is his parting gift for his best friend and main rival. As the years went by, Kakashi became known throughout the ninja world as Kakashi of the Sharingan. He is known as a copy ninja that can mimic any jutsu that his opponents use. A feat that is only possible thanks to the sharingan in his left eye.
While Kakashi’s ability to copy any jutsu that he sees is certainly an incredible power, it is actually just a basic ability of a sharingan. After all, a sharingan granted its user an enhanced vision, and it also enabled its user to see the chakra flow of every living being. So technically speaking, every Uchiha should be able to do what Kakashi does. Meanwhile, Obito’s sharingan allows him to become intangible and continuously activate a much more powerful and versatile version of Kamui. The two share the same pair of eyes, but one is clearly more capable than the other. Why is that?
Compatibility With Sharingan
A Sharingan is a dojutsu (vision jutsu) that can only be awakened by somebody who has the blood of Uchiha running through their veins. Sure, it is possible for somebody who is not related to Uchiha to wield the Sharingan, such as Kakashi and Danzo. But only an Uchiha can utilize the full potential of a Sharingan. And that is pretty much the first difference between Kakashi and Obito.
As an Uchiha, Obito’s body is much more attuned to the power of sharingan. His chakra naturally flows to the eyes, which enabled him to use the sharingan as efficiently as possible. That is why he can use the sharingan for a long period of time without any noticeable adverse effect on his body. And the more he uses the sharingan, the easier it is for him to control its abilities.
On the contrary, the sharingan is a foreign object to Kakashi’s body. Sure, he can use it by pouring chakra into it, but as a non Uchiha, the sharingan consumes quite a sizable amount of his chakra. And although Kakashi is an incredible shinobi, his chakra pool is not that different from a regular ninja, which means using sharingan will quickly drain his chakra reserve. As a result, he only uses sharingan during battle and can only use his trump card, the Kamui, a couple of times a day. That is why in order to avoid unnecessary chakra consumption, Kakashi always covers his left eyes on a day-to-day basis.
Difference In Physical Capabilities
As mentioned earlier, although Kakashi is one of the finest shinobi that Konoha ever produced, his body is not that different from a regular shinobi. His raw muscle power is no greater than the other shinobi, his endurance is no different from the average shinobi, and his chakra pool is just slightly above average. In a way, this is actually the testament of Kakashi’s skills and intelligence. He recognizes his own physical limitations, and then crafts the best fighting style that can maximize his innate abilities. That is why he can defeat strong opponents like Zabuza and Kakuzu, and fight on an equal footing against monsters like Kisame and Deidara.
As for Obito, even though he is an Uchiha, his physical ability is actually not that much different than a regular shinobi. After all, the Uchiha are known for their fearsome genjutsu and ninjutsu, not their physical prowess. But everything changed when he was saved by Madara and the white Zetsu. In order to save his life, Madara implanted a part of white Zetsu’s body into Obito’s crushed upper body. As a matter of fact, his right arm and most of his upper body are made entirely of the white Zetsu.
White Zetsu itself is actually a creature that is made out of the first Hokage’s cell. This means some of the quality that belongs to the first Hokage also seeps into the rest of Obito’s body, such as overwhelming raw strength, and above average endurance. Furthermore, he also gained an increased chakra pool thanks to his assimilation with the white Zetsu. So as you can imagine, this improved physical capabilities make it that much easier for Obito to utilize the full power of his Sharingan with little to no effect on his body.
Mastery Over The Sharingan
Through years of training, experimenting, and accumulated combat experiences, Kakashi manages to gain great abilities through his sharingan, such as the aforementioned ability to replicate jutsus and the space-time jutsu called Kamui. That means he has mastered his Sharingan, right? Well, not really. Due to the aforementioned limitations and the fact that there are no living Uchiha around that can help him with Sharingan, Kakashi has barely scratched the surface of what the sharingan can do.
On the contrary, Obito who is personally chosen by the legendary shinobi, Madara Uchiha, to be his pupil gets the chance to master everything there is to know about sharingan. He received the knowledge and information directly from the man who has pushed the sharingan to its absolute limit. Madara wants to entrust his life-long dream to Obito, which is why it is in his best interest to train Obito to become not only the finest Uchiha, but also an extraordinary shinobi. When Madara finally dies of old age, Obito has become one of the strongest shinobi in the world.
So to surmise, the reason why Obito’s sharingan is more capable and more powerful than Kakashi’s is because Obito is a true-born Uchiha, his physical ability is increased many folds thanks to his integration with the white Zetsu, and he also gets the chance to learn from Madara Uchiha.
