Will Luffy’s Gear 5 be enough to beat Kaidou?

One Piece anime finally released its biggest and arguably most important episode to date. There was a great deal of anticipation, and fans were expecting Episode 1071 to break the internet. Fans were so desperate to watch Luffy’s new transformation that, an hour before the episode’s release, the Crunchyroll servers went down. Thankfully, the website was restored afterward, allowing viewers to watch the episode without any further delay. One Piece Episode 1071 was focused on Luffy as he used Gear 5th for the very first time. The strike from Kaidou’s kanabo should have ended Luffy’s life, but it ended up releasing the true power of the Devil Fruit. According to the Gorosei, the Gomu Gomu no Mi has another name. It was formerly known as the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which is a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit. It embodies the spirit of Nika, the Sun God, who was renowned for bringing smiles to the faces of slaves.
For this reason, Nika was also called the Warrior of Liberation. The World Government revealed that it has been trying to get its hands on the Devil Fruit for a long time, but it always seems to evade them. The Gorosei also stated that the Zoan-type Devil Fruits have a will of their own, which explains why the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, always eluded them. One of the Gorosei called the Devil Fruit the most ridiculous power in the world, and it is clear to see why.
Luffy’s new Gear is extremely different from any of his previous powers. All of Luffy’s earlier Gears only served a particular purpose, but Gear 5 is multi-functional. In this form, Luffy can enlarge his body like Gear 3, and grab a massive dragon such as Kaidou with literal ease. He can even bulk up like Gear 4: Bounce Man and deal more damage to his opponents. Gear 5 also made the fight more goofy, and it has many qualities resembling some of the older cartoons, such as Tom & Jerry and Looney Toons.
Even after being attacked multiple times by Luffy, Kaidou was unmoved, and he was ready to continue their fight. In the episode, Kaidou used Blast Breath to attack Luffy, forcing the latter to use Gear 5 to rubberize the ground and redirect the attack toward the Yonko. The episode’s animation was top-notch, which is hardly surprising given the number of amazing animators working on it.
One Piece Episode 1071 also had Hiyori’s biggest moment. She finally revealed her true identity to Orochi, the current Shogun of Wano. Hiyori was understandably emotional, as the man was responsible for hurting her father and family. She hid her feelings, but seeing Orochi in a miserable state sent her over the edge. Fans also saw Orochi being set on fire by Kazenbo, the fire spirit created by Kanjuro. However, it doesn’t seem that the villainous shogun will be burned to death.
Release Date
One Piece Episode 1072 will be released on August 13th, 2023. It is titled “The Ridiculous Power! Gear 5 in Full Play”. The episode will be more action-packed than the previous one. It will showcase the full potential of Gear 5. Luffy already showed glimpses of its power, but fans have yet to see its truly destructive nature. Luffy will indubitably pummel Kaidou a lot to test out the potency of his attacks. Kaidou, on the other hand, will have to try and withstand the beating. The Yonko needs to find a way to counter Luffy’s new power if he wants to win the fight. Kaidou has years’ worth of experience under his belt, so if anyone can find a chink in Luffy’s armor, it is Kaidou.
Aside from the fight between the two characters, the next episode may give some screen time to the other members of the alliance. They went through a plethora of emotions in a short time. They first got the news that Luffy was dead, and not long afterward, they found out that the young buccaneer was still alive and ready to lock horns with Kaidou once again. The Straw Hats, in particular, will be relieved to see their captain back on his feet.
When it comes to animation, One Piece Episode 1072 is going to be just as good as the previous one, if not better. It has already been confirmed that the entire stretch of Gear 5 episodes will be epic, so fans don’t need to worry about the quality of the animation. There is also a chance that Episode 1072 will be better than Episode 1071, as it will not have any flashbacks or extended scenes. It will have over ten minutes of action, animated by some of the most talented animators in the industry.

One Piece Episode 1072 will be available on Crunchyroll shortly after its premiere in Japan, provided the servers are not overloaded again. The episode will have Japanese audio along with English subtitles. The dubbed version is not yet available.
