Thankfully, Oda has already answered the questions of the fans and introduced competent villains for this arc — the Holy Knights. This group of enemies is rather new in One Piece, however, their strength is legendary and something that even the Revolutionary Army is scared of. In introducing the Holy Knights, Oda has also given fans a seemingly overpowered female character, which is something that fans of this series will definitely go on to cherish as the Elbaf arc continues.
The Lack Of Active Powerful Female Characters In One Piece
- Many Mighty Female Characters Exist
- So Far, Few Have Gotten Their Chance To Shine In Arcs
It is safe to that One Piece, just the vast majority of the Shonen series out there, has a limited focus on the female characters. However, Oda does focus on his female cast a lot more than the other authors. The Straw Hat Pirates themselves have active female characters in Nami and Robin. These characters are very important to the story moving forward, and Oda ensures that they get their own moments.
The strongest hag in the world, Big Mom! – Wano Pirates
Outside of the Straw Hat Pirates, Oda has come up with some phenomenal female characters as well, but when it comes to those with strength, two stand out far more than the others, those being the Captain of the Big Mom Pirates and one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, Charlotte Linlin, also known as Big Mom, and the Empress of Amazon Lily and the Captain of the Kuja Pirates, Boa Hancock. Both of these characters stand out as some of the mightiest in One Piece. But, sadly, their role hasn’t been as incredible as fans would’ve liked. Big Mom was supposed to be a major antagonist and even though she did go on to show tremendous strength across Whole Cake Island, her role in Wano was very limited. In the end, the main Big Mom fight was extremely rushed and fans couldn’t even see her get the highlight that she deserved.
Similarly, Boa Hancock, although a phenomenally written character, has been on the sidelines for way too long now, and knowing Oda, her role will only come deep in the final saga. With the Final Saga of One Piece upon the fans already, it is high time that Oda goes on and gives the fans more mighty female characters. So far, the final saga hasn’t produced even a single overpowered female character, that is, until the Elbaf arc began. Here, fans got to see the main villains make their appearance and they were both revealed to be members of the Holy Knights. While one of them is of far greater importance, which is only natural, given that he’s the brother of Red Haired Shanks and the son of Garling Figarland, the other is a woman with a fascinating ability who fans can’t help but love.

Gunko Possesses Tremendous Strength

Gunko was introduced in One Piece’s Elbaf arc for the very first time and fans got to see her wield tremendous power. Being a member of the Holy Knights, it was expected of Gunko to hold incredible ability, such that even a monstrously powerful individual such as Dragon takes the entire group seriously. Immediately upon setting foot on Elbaf, fans saw Gunko utilize her powers which, at the time, looked like bandages. As she went to the Underworld, it became clearer that her ability had little to do with bandages and more about the usage of arrows.
The result would be the same even if you could move. – Shamrock Figarland
When Gunko attacked Loki’s pet wolf, her arrow ability was quite apparent. Then, in her attempt to force Loki to join the Holy Knights, Oda gave all the readers a proper display of her power, the Aro Aro no Mi. Safe to say, this Devil Fruit belongs to the Paramedic Class, and it allows Gunko to produce arrows from her body. Although it looks like just another standard Paramecia ability on the surface, its true abilities are incredible, to say the least. Gunko can use its powers to boost her offensive output greatly. Not only can she use this ability to rain fire arrows on her enemies like a skilled archer, but she can use the arrows like ropes and bandages to crush enemies with pressure and cut off blood supply, among other things. She can also wrap her arrows around her body to create massive limbs. For instance, to fight Giants, Gunko can create long arrows and use them to make massive legs that hit harder and stronger, similar to how Luffy grows in size with Gear 3. Gunko can enlarge her fists or legs freely this way.
The most impressive ability of the Aro Aro no Mi is that it allows Gunko to generate some pathway arrows, which show the future of her actions. Simply put, all the fighters around her are clearly able to see Gunko’s attack trajectory, but according to her, these attacks are completely unavoidable. The only way to stop the attack is for Gunko to change her mind. These arrow trajectories also accelerate her attacks to great heights, allowing her attacks to do a ton of damage to the enemies.

Shamrock suggests Gunko Can Beat Loki Without Chains

The biggest and the most exciting part of it all is Shamrock’s statement in One Piece chapter 1137. When Loki was clearly struggling to keep up with Gunko’s attacks, he made it clear that the situation was the way it was because he was tied up and in sea prism stone chains. Loki is very confident in his abilities and knows that if he was unchained, things would be very different. However, Shamrock didn’t seem to be bothered. According to him, the result of his battle with Gunko wouldn’t change even if he was unchained, meaning he fully believes Gunko to be strong enough to torture him anyway, making her an Emperor tier fighter. Fans can’t wait to see more of her powers, and hopefully, unlike Big Mom, Oda will give Gunko proper attention and let her show her full powers instead of being nerfed.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1138, is set to be February 2, 2025.
