Boa Hancock has a major role to play in One Piece’s final saga.
It has also been made quite clear in the story that Imu has been ruling the world for eight centuries now and that, long ago, he was responsible for a massive cleansing that led the world to be shaped like it is today. Thanks to Vegapunk, fans now have enough clues to figure out how exactly Imu accomplished this and how the world came to be under his control.
The Ancient Kingdom And The Great War
Imu and The Kings Fought Against The Ancient Kingdom Long Ago
The first thing that fans need to know about the World Government gaining power is that long ago, they were just a band of nations together living on the surface, just like anyone else. The Ancient Kingdom was the main power in the One Piece world. It is highly unlikely that the Ancient Kingdom forced their power on others, given that Oda has always associated themes of freedom, liberation, and just about anything positive with them. The Ancient Kingdom was technologically advanced. In fact, their advancements were such that even Vegapunk, who is considered to be the smartest man in the world right now, does not compare to what the people of the Ancient Kingdom were capable of doing. It is because of these technological advancements that the rest of the world came to fear them, and they banded together in an attempt to erase them entirely.
That is why this Great War began and it lasted for over 100 years. The Great War that came to be in the world of One Piece long ago saw the 20 Kingdoms that are currently known as the World Government band together in an attempt to fight the influence of the Ancient Kingdom. At the same time, the people of the Ancient Kingdom started building the Ancient Weapons. However, it is highly likely that there was a traitor within the ranks of the Ancient Kingdom. This is because fans know for a fact that Uranus was somehow passed over to the people of the 20 Kings. That is how Imu is in possession of the Uranus currently, and why there is a massive hole under Enies Lobby.
Whether the people of the Ancient Kingdom utilized the power of Pluton and Poseidon or not remains unknown. What fans know for a fact is that the Ancient Kingdom Uranus was likely used by the people of the 20 Kings. Given that they had such power at their disposal, they likely used it, along with other methods, to subdue the Ancient Kingdom. After a 100-year fight, the 20 Kings finally emerged on top and, with that, the people of the Ancient Kingdom were utterly crushed.
The Use Of Ancient Weapon Uranus And The Flooding Of The World
The Ancient Weapons Caused The World To Flood And Islands To Sink
Close
With the usage of the Ancient Weapon Uranus, fans have seen some very interesting phenomena take place. The first thing that fans need to keep in mind is that the Ancient Weapon Uranus is one that can destroy the entire world. In fact, all the Ancient Weapons that Oda has introduced in the story hold the power to flatten the entire world. Pluton can vaporize islands in a single shot, Poseidon can sink the entire world into the ocean, and, above all, Uranus can also vaporize just about anything with a shot from the skies. Fans recently got to see the Ancient Weapon Uranus being used by Imu. Uranus needs a power cell, called Mother Flame, however, now that Vegapunk came about, Mother Flame could be produced, and with that, Imu was finally able to test this weapon.

One Piece: How The World Will Sink, Explained
The One Piece world is sinking under the sea. Here’s everything you need to know.
The very first island that became victim to Mother Flame was none other than the Kingdom of Lulusia.
This kingdom was shot with 16 rays from the sky, and was completely vaporized. It was as if the Kingdom never existed. A hole similar to the one under Enies Lobby was created in its stead. In the following days, many earthquakes came about and the entire world felt the repercussions of this blast. The sea levels continue to rise gradually, and Oda revealed that a total elevation of 1 meter was observed because of the erasure of Lulusia. Countless islands were completely sunk, while many others were partially flooded.
When taking into consideration the fact that usage of the Uranus caused the water levels to rise, then, fans can easily put two and two together and figure out why the world of One Piece is flooded to this degree, to begin with. Fans also know, thanks to the hole under Enies Lobby, that the Ancient weapon Uranus was also used long ago in the past. As such, the way by which Imu cleansed the entire world was likely using the Ancient Weapon Uranus.
By utilizing multiple shots from this deadly weapon, the water level was gradually caused to rise. This means that the islands that fans see in the One Piece world now are only parts of what was once a greater continent. This greater continent likely is on the seafloor right now, with only bits of it emerging outside of the water, which have now become islands of its own.
Eventually, any place that was involved in a war against the World Government was completely eradicated using the Ancient Weapon Uranus, and those who would be their allies were sunk with the rising tides.
The Creation Of The Red Line And The World Government
The Red Line Was Erected To Protect The Interest Of The Government
Of course, flooding this massive would also cause the World Government allies to sink themselves. This is precisely why a Holy Land atop the Red Line was necessary. It is highly likely that the Red Line actually did not exist long ago at all. Using some power, the Red Line was likely erected and, when that happened, the World Government likely took residence at the very top. Given that the Red Line is 10,000 meters above sea level, no flooding of any sort can ever bother them. As such, Imu could freely flood whichever part of the world he wanted, and bear no repercussions at all.
Thankfully, it appears that Imu and those of the World Government were not able to recreate the Mother Flame, which is a power cell required for Uranus to function. It is because of this reason that no other cleansings took place. However, now, thanks to Vegapunk, they have Mother Flame once again, or at least the potential to obtain it. That is why the World Government can go for another Great Cleansing and sink the world of One Piece even further.
