The conclusion of the epic Wano Country Saga resolved a number of major plot points in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece which had been laid out as far back as the Punk Hazard Arc. Following this, Oda wasted no time in commencing the Final Saga, which got off to an explosive start. Beginning with the Egghead Island Arc, there has been no shortage of high intensity moments in recent chapters of One Piece. Fans have been taken on a non-stop thrill ride from Vegapunk’s Future Island, to the halls of Pangaea Castle in Mary Geoise during the Levely, and most recently, to the island of Hachinosu, which saw a heated clash between the Marine unit SWORD and the Blackbeard Pirates.

In the climax of this last battle, the Marines managed to escape with their lives, but at the cost of leaving a seriously injured Monkey D. Garp in the clutches of Blackbeard’s subordinates, with his ultimate fate currently unknown. The focus will now shift back to Egghead Island, where the Straw Hats find themselves in great peril, facing off against the likes of the Seraphim and CP0, with other, more powerful opponents on their way to the island. Under these circumstances, how will Luffy and his crew manage to come out unscathed, and what price will they have to pay in order to for this outcome to emerge?

Showdown Against The Seraphim

Lucci Luffy Kaku and Zoro fighting Seraphim

On Egghead Island, the Straw Hats encountered the latest development in Vegapunk’s research on the Pacifista — the Seraphim. Each of them has been modeled on a former Warlord of the Sea, augmented with Lunarian DNA, and provided with Green Blood, another one of Vegapunk’s inventions, which replicates Paramecia-type Devil Fruit abilities. Fighting the Seraphim has been a tricky proposition for the Straw Hats so far, and the situation was initially complicated by the arrival of CP0 agents Rob Lucci and Kaku.

After an initial fight between Luffy and Lucci, where the Straw Hat captain decisively defeated the CP0 agent, despite the latter also having Awakened his Devil Fruit, the Straw Hats restrained the World Government agents. This status quo was short-lived as they had to release Lucci and Kaku, who offered a temporary alliance to deal with the Seraphim. As the battle intensified, the overall situation on Egghead Island descended into utter chaos, as the Straw Hats decided to flee with Vegapunk and his satellites in tow.

However, their plans were thwarted by the satellite York, who was revealed to have betrayed Vegapunk in order to become a World Noble, having secretly struck a deal with the Five Elders for this very purpose. Moreover, Vegapunk revealed that he was the target of the assassination attempt by CP0, as he had delved too much into the Void Century.

Fortunately for him, one of the agents sent to apprehend him was none other than Stussy, a MADS-developed clone of the Rocks Pirates’ member Miss Buckingham Stussy, who had been loyal to Vegapunk all along. At present, these circumstances will be difficult to navigate considering the forces at play, and their battle against the Seraphim is only just beginning.

Kizaru, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, And The Blackbeard Pirates Approaching

Another major threat is the incoming ship carrying Admiral Kizaru, who is accompanied by Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, one of the Five Elders and the Warrior God of Science and Defense. While the latter’s true powers and motives are not yet known, it is fair to say that he is traveling to Egghead Island personally, in order to oversee Vegapunk’s execution, as well as the destruction of all his research material pertaining to the Void Century.

Saturn’s arrival on Egghead would have disastrous consequences for the Straw Hats, as he will likely be accompanied by a huge force of Marines, including Vice Admirals and Rear Admirals, among others, in a scenario that resembles the Buster Call which took place on Ohara for similar reasons. The Elder’s presence indicates that this situation is even more serious than Ohara, as the World Government seems to be prepared to let go of their greatest scientific mind, who has been responsible for the creation of innumerable weapons that their forces wield.

Additionally, the Straw Hats have already faced off against Kizaru on Sabaody, with the Admiral’s power having far too much for them to handle, even when he was not fighting seriously. While Luffy and his crew have made considerable strides in their rise to the top of the pirate world, they are still a ways away from being able to take on Kizaru in a direct fight. Moreover, the presence of CP0 agents will further complicate the situation, where the crew will have even more opponents to consider.

There is also an impending threat from the Blackbeard Pirates, with one of their ships also headed towards Egghead Island. At present, with the fighting on Hachinosu having concluded, there is little chance of Aokiji arriving at the scene, as Garp and Kizaru departed for their respective destinations at fairly similar times. Blackbeard was last seen on Winner Island, having defeated the Heart Pirates, as Law barely escaped with his life due to Bepo’s valiant intervention. The chances of him traveling to Egghead Island are also slim, which begs the question: which of the Ten Titanic Captains will Luffy and the crew have to contend with?

How Will The Straw Hats Make It Out?

All this makes for a compelling setup, as the tension rises to even higher levels, where it is practically anyone’s guess as to how things will play out. Newspaper headlines after Garp’s capture on Hachinosu also shared some information about the Egghead Incident, stating that Luffy would be forced to fend off a siege on Egghead Island, after the arrival of Admiral Kizaru. Such does news is not a major revelation concerning the current state of events, where anything could happen.

There are a few theories on possible outcomes to this crisis. Since Usopp and Franky have both been petrified by the Mero Mero no Mi powers of the Seraphim S-Snake, the possibility of escape without gaining control of the Pacifista is impossible. Luffy would never leave his crew behind, and it is more likely that he may turn himself over to the Marines in their place instead. If Saturn arrives at Egghead Island, his control over the Seraphim would override even that of York, as he is one of the Five Elders. Hence, the worst case outcome would be Luffy trading his own life for those of his crew mates, resulting in another Marineford-style scenario where the Straw Hats, along with the Grand Fleet, and even Sabo and the Revolutionary Army, will rush to save Luffy from the World Government.

Alternatively, if the crew manages to fight, it would be a difficult match up against the Seraphim, CP0, Kizaru, and possibly even Saturn, although the Elder might not want to showcase his power just yet. In many ways, this situation mirrors the peril that the Straw Hats found themselves in back on the Sabaody Archipelago, where they were entirely outclassed. A repeat of this situation is unlikely, considering how strong the crew, and especially, Luffy have become. However, with Kid and Law having faced crushing defeats immediately after Wano, a reality check in some form may also be on the cards for the Straw Hats. The massive Iron Giant from the Void Century could also play a part in the hostilities, and perhaps even turn the tide of the battle in the Straw Hats’ favor.

On one hand, this would be the perfect stage for Luffy to showcase the full power of Gear 5 free of any constraints, showcasing the power of an Emperor of the Sea who has ascended beyond the level of an Admiral. This would essentially mean that he has outgrown even Kizaru, one of the strongest fighters in the Marines, effectively ending any debate of Luffy not being able to take on an Admiral in a one-off fight. Alternatively, the conflict might also de-escalate through some means, where the Straw Hats and the Marines come to an agreement of sorts.

Finally, one of the most talked about theories involves the arrival of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, who would provide the perfect backup to force a stalemate on Egghead Island, resolving the situation and allowing the Straw Hats to escape. The odds of this occurring are also quite low, since very few are aware of the events on the Future Island. Whatever happens, fans of One Piece can eagerly wait for the next few chapters to bring this situation to the resounding climax it deserves.
