One Piece chapter 1139 officially introduced fans to Scopper Gaban in the current timeline of the story. Scopper Gaban is an incredibly powerful pirate, and one that fans are very well familiar with. He was introduced in the story in chapter 19, although back then, fans didn’t know exactly who the person was or what he was named. Later on, Oda revealed more information about the former members of the Roger Pirates in his databooks, specifically naming Scopper Gaban alongside Silvers Rayleigh and Gol D. Roger.

In the post-timeskip of One Piece, fans got to see a bit more of Scopper Gaban, especially when the Oden flashback panned out. Scopper Gaban was a big part of the flashback and here, he got a bit more characterization. But, it is safe to say that the focus of the flashback was most certainly Oden himself, along with Roger at times. That is precisely why fans needed a better look at Scopper Gaban later down the line in order to know more about him and that is precisely what Oda has provided to them now.
In the Elbaf arc of One Piece, fans knew that Oda was set to introduce a new character who was seemingly waiting for Luffy. While many ideas surfaced on the internet, the most probable guess for this person’s true identity was Scopper Gaban. As it turns out, One Piece chapter 1139 has officially confirmed this person to be Scopper Gaban. Here, he is introduced as the left hand of the Pirate King, just as Rayleigh himself was introduced as the right hand of the Pirate King. Gaban is most definitely going to play a massive role in the Elbaf arc of One Piece, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see this living legend go all out and show Luffy what the Pirate King’s crew is capable of.

Gaban Is On The Same Tier As Rayleigh And Roger
Scopper Gaban is one of the most important characters in the Elbaf arc as he plays the role of a guide for Luffy. Right from the very early parts of the story, fans knew that Gaban would be introduced at some point as a guide for Luffy and the crew. Just like how Crocus was at the beginning of the Grand Line, and Rayleigh was at the midpoint, Gaban is now going to be in the New World, playing the role of a guide, both to test Luffy, and to aid him to go and claim the One Piece itself.

In One Piece chapter 1139, a lot of information about Scopper Gaban was provided to the fans. First things first, Gaban called himself the Minister of Love, which likens him to Sanji. He is revealed to be Ripley’s partner and Colon’s father. Gaban is most definitely under 80, as he confirmed in the chapter himself. His son, Colon is 20, while his wife, Ripley is 80. Gaban has been living in Elbaf for over 20 years, and going by the name of Ya-san, but his legend is well-known far and wide.

According to the Giants, Scopper Gaban is a legendary pirate who is said to be monstrously powerful. Back in the day, he used to rival Silvers Rayleigh himself and stood as the Left-hand of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. On one particular day when Roger was sick, Gaban took him to the top of a mountain to a hospital. Unfortunately for them, pirates who wanted to kill Roger had surrounded the mountain. Gaban killed them all with his two axes alone. It is said that Gaban killed hundreds of pirates that day, and that’s not all. He did so much damage that the entire mountain was laid bare with not even a single tree left on it. This earned him the moniker of “Mountain Eater” Scopper Gaban.
The Giants go on to say that Scopper Gaban is a living legend and a star, who is said to be on par with the legendary pirates Gol D. Roger and Silvers Rayleigh themselves. This goes to show that Gaban is in the same tier of strength as these monsters.
Is Gaban As Strong As Roger And Rayleigh?
Gaban Should Be Around Their Tier
Close
Scopper Gaban is a legendary pirate whose strength has now been confirmed to be of the highest tier. As a living legend, he is spoken of in the same breath as the likes of Rayleigh. Gaban is said to be a rival to Silvers Rayleigh himself, meaning he should be just as strong as him, and around the same level. But that’s certainly not all. Gaban is also said to be a pirate who was on par with the monsters Roger and Rayleigh. Essentially, this means that all three are in the same tier of strength.
Gaban should be strong enough to fight against the Yonko of the One Piece world and win. Although, in his current age, he is likely not as strong as an Emperor. This was confirmed by Rayleigh, when he clearly stated that he is in his old age and can’t beat Blackbeard as he is.
But, back in the day, Rayleigh most definitely stood a fair chance of beating Blackbeard. Similarly, Gaban should not be as strong as Blackbeard right now, but back in his prime days, he would’ve been more than a challenge for him. This legendary monster who rivals Roger and Rayleigh is now in Luffy’s path, and he’s going to test whether the boy that Shanks entrusted the hat is worthy of it or not.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1139, is set to be February 9, 2025.
