Fans got to see Shamrock in action for the very first time, even though what he revealed was only a glimpse of his true strength. In Shamrock’s own words, he doesn’t want to dirty his own hands, which is why he asked his sword, Cerberus, to do the job for him. The Cerberus is clearly a very intriguing weapon and might just be one of the very strongest swords to be introduced in One Piece.

In One Piece chapter 1138, fans finally got their first look at the powers of Shamrock Figarland. This character had been a mystery for quite a while now and fans had been wondering if he’d show his powers during the meeting against Loki. Thanks to the provocation by the Accursed Prince of Elbaf, Shamrock showcased what he’s truly capable of, before moving to finally attempt to subjugate the country of Elbaf so that he can fulfill his mission to the World Government.
You’re right. He’s not worth dirtying my hands on. You do it, Cerberus! — Shamrock
When the topic of Shanks was brought up to Shamrock by Loki, he clearly explained that he’s the elder twin and that Shanks, despite, having returned to Marijoa at one point, left because he had acquired a taste for the lower world. To this, Loki clearly responded by stating that he’s earned his fury, just like Shanks, and that he holds a grudge against the whole family. When pressed further about having earned his fury, Shamrock considered it a threat and unleashed his blade. While he clearly stated he didn’t want to dirty his own hands, he clearly spoke to his sword, which he called Cerberus. Out of the sword, black flames started appearing, and then, shortly after, a dog head. Eventually, three heads manifested and it became clear to the fans that the sword held the power of Cerberus inside.
Shamrock used the power on Loki, injuring him to great effect and showing everyone the terrific power of the blade. What’s even crazier is the fact that this is only a glimpse of Shamrock’s power, meaning that there is more to come in the battle against Luffy or Loki later down the line. But, whatever little fans have seen right now is enough to justify Shamrock as a very powerful sword wielder.

The moment Shamrock revealed his sword to the fans, it became incredibly clear that this sword was incredibly overpowered. The Cerberus itself is a guardian of the gates of hell and a mythical entity, meaning that this sword in itself has mythical powers, which is very rare for any weapon in One Piece. Being the guardian of hell is absolutely perfect for this blade when considering the fact that Sabo described Marijoa as being hell atop the world. Shamrock acts as the guardian, which just goes to show his importance not just in Elbaf, but in the grand scheme of things.
Come, find and kill me whenever you feel like it. I’ll face you then. If you survive this, that is. — Shamrock
As far as the powers of the Cerberus sword go, it is quite exciting. It appears that the sword can spawn a full Cerberus from it, adding to the attack force of the user. Shamrock crested a whole Cerberus and ordered it to attack Loki. But, the dog didn’t attack him normally. Instead, Shamrock had it separate its three heads and have them fly towards Loki. Through each head, a sword appeared, which is clearly the hybrid form of the sword, as it is a mixture of the sword and the creature. All these three swords were covered in black flames, and they went on to pierce Loki’s torso.

The power of these swords is such that Loki believed he would be in a near-death state if he was hit by them, and sure enough, all of them ended up piercing him, leaving him heavily injured for the remainder of the arc.
It is also very interesting to note that the sword itself could’ve eaten a Devil Fruit, but, the way Oda portrayed the Cerberus seems to indicate that the ability isn’t a Devil Fruit, but rather a Mythical Beast, similar to the Yokai that were bestowed upon the Five Elders. The similarities are quite peculiar. All of them produce black flames, and they all have black cloud rings around them. Most importantly, all of them have a beast name instead of a Devil Fruit name, which seems to suggest that the sword was bestowed the power of the best instead of having been force-fed a Devil Fruit.
Why Cerberus May Be Connected To Imu
Cerberus Is Not Shown To Be A Devil Fruit Ability
Close
The idea of the Cerberus sword being connected to Imu is quite strong. Simply put, the sword carries a mythical beast and not a Devil Fruit ability from what can be made out so far. As such, this sword was most likely given this ability by none other than Imu themself. In other words, Imu, who seemingly has access to many powers, can grant abilities to whoever he wants, including weapons. This was directly confirmed by Oda when Imu killed Saturn by stripping his immortality and his powers from him at the end of Egghead. This clearly means both of his powers were bestowed upon him by Imu themself.
If Shamrock’s sword has a similar power to the Five Elders, then, it is safe to make the assumption that the sword itself was enchanted by none other than Imu. Imu granted the blade special powers and then handed it over to Shamrock, either directly, or through another Figarland who was loyal to Imu. This adds more depth to both Shamrock and the Holy Knights. Perhaps, Shamrock knows of the existence of Imu, and is a guard not just for the entire Government but specifically for him. It is also possible that the entire Holy Knights have been bestowed powers by Imu, especially since Gunko’s arrows seemingly come from Imu too, given that that was what Imu used to skewer both Sabo and Cobra, killing the latter.
Things are getting more exciting with each passing second in One Piece and fans absolutely cannot wait to see what Oda delivers next, both in regards to Shamrock Figarland and his abilities, as well as the connection of the Holy Knights to Imu.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1139, is set to be February 9, 2025.
