The world of One Piece is full of huge personalities, individuals with a natural magnetism who can command those around them to charge into battle alongside them without a second thought. Many of these characters are among the most powerful people in the world in One Piece, ranging from pirates who command notorious crews, to Marines who are striving to bring justice to the seas. There are a number of correlations that can be made between characters with natural charisma, and those who possess Conqueror’s Haki, making it an even more important weapon in an individual’s arsenal.
Possessing the power to sway the hearts of those following them, these individuals can stop conflicts with words, or steal the scene during moments of absolute chaos. One of the most memorable instances of this includes the dying declaration of Gol D. Roger, the former Pirate King, who urged the people of the world to set out to sea in search of his mythical treasure in the moments before his execution. This singular act triggered the start of the Golden Age of Piracy, which lasted close to two decades until the start of the New Era after the Summit War of Marineford. Several characters have come to rival Roger’s charisma, each of them bringing their unique personality to the table.
10 Boa Hancock
Renowned the world over for her unparalleled beauty, the Pirate Empress Boa Hancock is the sovereign of the island of Amazon Lily where she is known as the Snake Princess. Able to command the hearts of men and women alike due to her good looks, Hancock holds an unreasonable amount of power over most that stand before her, as she can convince them to do whatever she wishes purely due to her attractiveness and the power she wields with the Mero Mero no Mi to turn virtually anyone to stone. As the leader of the Kuja Pirates and ruler of Amazon Lily, she also commands the island’s fighting force, who obey her every whim.
9 Blackbeard
As the admiral of the Blackbeard Pirates and one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, Marshall D. Teach, more commonly known by his title Blackbeard, is one of the most feared pirates on the seas. The only person in history to wield two Devil Fruits, Blackbeard possesses the power of the Logia type Yami Yami no Mi and the Paramecia type Gura Gura no Mi, making him a formidable foe for anyone in One Piece.
Additionally, with the likes of Shiryu of the Rain, Jesus Burgess, Avalo Pizarro — and Kuzan, formerly known as Admiral Aokiji — as his subordinates, it is no surprise that he has the traits of a leader, despite his cowardly nature.
8 Monkey D. Luffy
The series’ main protagonist, Luffy is a born leader, possessing all the qualities of a king, as evidenced by his ability to use Conqueror’s Haki in its most advanced forms. Able to draw people towards him and turn enemies into allies, Luffy’s profile has skyrocketed at an alarming rate in the pirate world, having risen to the rank of an Emperor of the Sea just a few years after setting sail.
He commands respect wherever he goes, and has liberated several nations such as Arabasta, Skypiea, Dressrosa, and now, Wano Country, from tyrannical rule. Additionally, with the Awakening of his Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, Luffy has also been heralded as the second coming of the legendary figure Joy Boy.
7 Kozuki Oden
A legendary samurai who sailed with both Whitebeard and Gol D. Roger, Kozuki Oden was a descendant of the famed Kozuki Family who ruled Wano and was also partly responsible for the creation of the Poneglyphs in the Void Century.
He amassed followers wherever he went, and became renowned as an incredibly powerful fighter, having risen to the rank of the 2nd Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates — a position next held by Portgas D. Ace. Throughout his lifetime, Oden went from being seen as a troublemaker who was disowned by his father, to a daimyo, and finally, the hero who stood up to Kaido and Orochi’s tyranny.
6 Donquixote Doflamingo
Formerly a Celestial Dragon descended from the Donquixote Family, Donquixote Doflamingo is one of the series’ most memorable characters, for his character design, larger-than-life personality, and flamboyant demeanor. Devoid of any fear when facing any adversary, Doflamingo is prone to dramatic phrasing and carries himself with an arrogance that few others in the series can emulate.
He is also able to easily draw people towards him to become his subordinates and can use Conqueror’s Haki. Some of his most prominent traits include his indomitable will and intense sadism, which manifests whenever someone poses a threat to his authority. However, for the most part, he remains calm and self-assured, with his trademark smile plastered across his face.
5 Monkey D. Dragon
Although very little has been shown of Monkey D. Dragon’s true personality and the power he commands, there is no doubt that he is an extremely charismatic individual considering the fact that he is the Supreme Commander of the Revolutionary Army.
Known as the “World’s Worst Criminal,” Dragon is one of the biggest players in the world of One Piece, and his subordinates and allies include powerful individuals such as Sabo, Emporio Ivankov, Bartholomew Kuma, and even Dr. Vegapunk.
4 Monkey D. Garp
Known as the “Hero of the Marines,” Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp’s reputation as one of the most decorated officers in history precedes him, with tales of his fearsome power and incredible exploits during the era of Roger and Whitebeard still spoken of till the present day. He clashed with some of the world’s strongest and fought them to a stalemate on multiple occasions, without the use of any Devil Fruit powers, which makes his feats all the more impressive.
Furthermore, Garp is also an inspiration to Marines all over the world, and demands respect from all, even despite his open disdain for the World Nobles. His brash, outspoken nature has endeared him to many within its ranks but has also made him quite a few enemies.
3 Whitebeard
Once known as the “Strongest Man In the World,” Edward Newgate, usually referred to by his epithet Whitebeard, was a rival to Roger when both were in their prime. He commanded a fleet of some of the most powerful pirates in the world, including the likes of Marco the Phoenix, Kozuki Oden, and the Fire Fist, Portgas D. Ace.
The fact that he was able to demand intense loyalty from such powerful individuals stems from the paternal attitude he had towards his crew, where he saw them as his family rather than just as his comrades. Moreover, Whitebeard was a compassionate man at heart, who used his strength and status for humanitarian purposes, such as protecting Fishman Island and his raising his homeland of Sphinx from poverty.
2 Shanks
Roger’s disciple through and through, Shanks is easily one of the most charismatic characters in the series, and also one of the most powerful. The fact that he was able to go toe to toe against Blackbeard and Kaido, or gain an audience with the Five Elders in Mary Geoise is a testament to his influence and power.
Perhaps his greatest feat is bringing the fighting at Marineford during the Summit War to a halt simply with the power of his words, which further attests to his strength and ability to resolve conflicts purely through diplomacy. Shanks was also responsible for inspiring Luffy to take to the sea, and while his true motives are as yet unknown, he has earned his place as one of the show’s most charismatic individuals.
1 Gol D. Roger
There is perhaps no one more charismatic than the former Pirate King himself, whose last words will echo through the annals of history in One Piece for centuries, with how they sparked the start of a new era of piracy.
Roger conquered the Grand Line, clashed evenly with powerful combatants such as Garp, Shiki, Whitebeard, and even Rocks D. Xebec, and had incredibly powerful individuals such as Silvers Rayleigh, Kozuki Oden, and even a young Shanks in his crew. His ability to inspire others and radiate an aura of regality is why he was so feared and respected throughout his lifetime, as well as the reason behind his fame even after his death.
