The Supreme Grade Swords are incredible weapons in the One Piece world.

In the Final Saga, it can be said that a lot of the secrets of the One Piece world are finally being revealed, and, recently, the truth about the existence of the Devil Fruits was also touched upon. However, there is one particular mystery that still needs to be explained and that is where Devil Fruits come from.

There Are Countless Powerful Devil Fruits In One Piece

Devil Fruits were first introduced in One Piece right at the very beginning of the series. Luffy was the one who ended up eating the very first Devil Fruit to be introduced in the series, and that was the Gomu Gomu no Mi. This Devil Fruit made Luffy’s body rubbery and, ever since then, he has embodied this power and achieved great things with it. Over the years, Devil Fruits have only become more prominent. In the East Blue section of the story, Devil Fruits were not all that common, and this was because they were still considered a myth in this area. However, in the Grand Line, almost everyone has a Devil Fruit ability, with each one being superior to the other. Fans found out a lot of special Devil Fruit abilities over the years, with some being incredibly rare as well.

Those with powers exist in different dimensions, dreamed up by someone else before them!

The Logia types, which are largely considered to be the strongest, were explored in great detail, and the Mythical Zoan types, which are considered to be the most rare of all, are also brilliantly illustrated by Oda and intricately woven into his story. These Devil Fruits have only gotten more complex and special as the story has continued. The Yonko have had their powerful Devil Fruit abilities being revealed, and the World Government’s Five Elders have had incredible Yokai forms revealed as well. Clearly, the Devil Fruits are only going to get more important as One Piece continues, and this is evident from the fact that Vegapunk himself has dropped quite a bit of lore on them recently.

According to Vegapunk, Devil Fruits exist because of human desires. Every Devil Fruit that exists was wished for by someone else in a different plane of existence. It is because someone wished the Devil Fruit that it exists, and that is why Devil Fruits often tend to seek the person that they would be best suited to. Every single Devil Fruit exists because someone wanted that power to be real, and that puts into perspective why Luffy has the power of the Sun God, Nika, and why the likes of Blackbeard have the power of the Yami Yami no Mi. While this idea certainly does make a lot of sense, it does not explain how Devil Fruits come into existence.

The Devil Fruit Tree Could Be The Source Of These Fruits

Devil Fruits might exist because someone wished for them, however, at the end of the day, they are fruits. Fruits do not pop out of nowhere, and as is the case with most fruits that exist, Devil Fruits grow somewhere. Of course, the first guess for any individual when it comes to the growing place of the Devil Fruits would be a Devil Fruit tree. The idea of a Devil Fruit tree isn’t all that far-fetched. In fact, Oda has mentioned a Devil Fruit tree in his side story himself. While this idea has not been explicitly mentioned in One Piece, Oda’s Romance Dawn manga mentions the Devil Fruit tree clearly, and that means it could very well make it into the story at some point later down the line. At the very least, fans do know that this idea has been brought forward by Oda himself, and that it could come up into the story later down the line.

It does make perfect sense for Devil Fruits To grow on a Devil Fruit tree, and from there onwards, be spread to different parts of the world. Another idea that heavily supports Devil Fruits being grown on a tree is the fact that there is already a special tree in the One Piece World. Fans know that in Fishman Island, the Sunlight Tree Eve plays a massive role.

The roots of the giant Sun Tree Eve reach this place and bring the light from the surface down to us.

The Sunlight Tree Eve gives light to Fishman Island, and it is quite a special tree itself. The tree accomplishes this by respiration, absorbing sunlight on the top of the surface, and then passing it on to Fishman Island through its roots. In many ways, it can be said that this tree is the giant boss of the Yarukiman Mangroves.

Another mystical tree that exists in the One Piece world is the Treasure Tree Adam. While a lot of the fans might have forgotten about this tree, Adam is known to be the tree that has the strongest and the sturdiest wood of all in the One Piece world. The ship of the Pirate King, Oro Jackson, was created using the Treasure Tree Adam. The Thousand Sunny, which is the ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, was also created with the same wood, making this ship special.

Clearly, Oda has introduced special trees into his story, and that in itself means that a similar tree could exist that gives life to things such as Devil Fruits. When someone thinks of an idea, it would then be birthed on a special tree. Perhaps, those of the Ancient Kingdom created this special method of giving rise to imagination and desires. Devil Fruit stemmed from desires, however, taking those desires and turning them into fruits and making it a possibility for human evolution would require something like a Devil Fruit Tree. Given that the Ancient Kingdom was incredibly advanced, far more than even Vegapunk, perhaps they were able to harvest a massive Devil Fruit Tree and use its power to create these many Devil Fruits.

Of course, one might wonder as to where this Devil Fruit tree is right now. The answer to this question is that the Devil Fruit tree can only be in one place, and that is the place that sits right above Fishman Island itself. On the top of the Red Line, likely at some place inside Marijoa, there should exist a massive Devil Fruit tree. The same Devil Fruit tree could have its roots all the way down to the bottom of the ocean, specifically Fishman Island, and its roots could give light to the people living there. In other words, the same tree that gives light to Fishman Island could be the one that bears Devil Fruit, which would mean that the Sunlight Tree Eve is the Devil Fruit tree of the One Piece World. Of course, it is possible that there could be an entirely different tree that bears these fruits, however, the idea of a tree being responsible for the creation of Devil Fruits isn’t far-fetched at all.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1112, is set to be April 21, 2024.
