  • Despite being known as a brave warrior, Usopp may finally realize his journey’s truth.

Usopp has been a mainstay of the Straw Hats from the very early days of One Piece. Although he hasn’t been one of the main combatants in the crew, he has always played a huge role in all the arcs that he has been a part of, becoming one of the most beloved characters of the series in the process. Even though he has never been a fighter, he has had essential combat moments that have changed the trajectory of the story multiple times.

Going into Elbaf, fans have great expectations about what’s going to come from this character, considering his dream and entire character journey are directly tied to this fabled land. As far as fans are concerned, there are 2 major ways Usopp’s story can go in this arc, and either possibility will change the world of One Piece forever, so let’s take a look at the potential next steps for Usopp’s journey.

The Little Garden arc of One Piece was important for several reasons, one of which was that it had the first ever mention of the legendary island of Elbaf; the home of the giants. Through seeing and hearing about the exploits of Dorry and Brogy, Usopp got inspired to become a ‘brave warrior of the sea’, which has essentially been the primary dream for his entire arc, and now that he’s in Elbaf, it seems closer than ever to coming true.

Funnily enough, through his many showings of bravery in various arcs, specifically Enies Lobby and Dressrosa, he can definitely be considered a brave warrior already, since he had heroic moments that very few others would undertake. However, it seems that Usopp wants to become like the giants who have inspired him for the reality of his bravery to be known to him, prompting many fans to think that Usopp will eat a Devil Fruit during the events of Elbaf, specifically the Mythical Zoan, Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Elbaf or the Hito Hito no Mi, Model; Giant.

This would be a monumental moment for the series, but ultimately, one that also makes sense as there has been immense foreshadowing leading to it. Although there hasn’t been a Zoan Devil Fruit that turns someone into another race, it was explained in Little Garden that the giants pray to a warrior god who also goes by the name of Elbaf. Ultimately, the theory states that Usopp will come across this Mythical Zoan fruit that will turn him into the huge God of the Giants.

At this stage, despite often being cowardly, Usopp is known across the world as the sniper of one of the strongest pirate crews on the seas. This means that he has already fulfilled his dream of being a brave warrior of the sea, but just fails to see himself as such. Perhaps with the power of a legendary Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, Usopp may just finally realize the truth of his journey.

The Death of a Straw Hat

Another theory that’s far darker yet just as likely to happen has to do with the death of this beloved character in Elbaf. For the longest time, fans of One Piece have been theorizing that one of the Straw Hats will die, with the prevailing theory claiming that it will be Usopp who bites the bullet at the end. Just like many other things regarding One Piece, this is purely speculation but the reasoning behind it does seem to add up.

The most common theory about how this happens is that Usopp will likely give his life trying to save someone else, particularly Luffy, in a final act of bravery that would not only bring his character arc full circle but would also finally cement him as being a brave warrior of the sea. Although this would be an incredibly sad tale for one of the most beloved characters in the entire story, it would be a beautiful send-off for him as well.

Moreover, many have complained about Usopp’s lack of action in some of the most dire moments in the series, so to have his final moment be one of extreme bravery may just be the best thing the character ever does. Until then, fans just have to wait and see what Elbaf and beyond has in store for everyone’s favorite sniper, but whatever it is, it will surely set the entire fandom ablaze.
