The Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance was the main invading party who fought against the combined might of the Beasts Pirates and the Big Mom Pirates in the Raid on Onigashima in One Piece’s Wano Country Arc. Consisting of three Worst Generation crews, in addition to Mink soldiers from the Mokomo Dukedom, a host of samurai affiliated with the Kozuki Family, the yakuza, and other samurai from across the nation of Wano, the group was responsible for the eventual defeat of the alliance between Big Mom and the Beasts Pirates led by Kaido.
In doing so, the group managed to liberate the people of Wano from the tyranny of being ruled by Kaido and Kurozumi Orochi. The duo had exploited Wano’s resources for industrial weapons production, while enslaving its populace, and polluting its natural environment for over two decaded since the death of Kozuki Oden and the purging of the Kozuki Family, who were the original rulers of Wano prior to Kaido and Orochi’s coup d’etat. By defeating the two Emperors of the Sea and their crews, the alliance led by Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hats, altered the balance of power in the world of One Piece, catalyzing the start of the story’s Final Saga.
Why Was The Alliance Formed?
Initially, the alliance was solely formed between the Straw Hat Pirates and the Heart Pirates led by Trafalgar D. Water Law, who joined hands on Punk Hazard to take down Kaido — although Law’s real goal was to defeat the Warlord Donquixote Doflamingo. While on Punk Hazard, the pirates encountered Foxfire Kin’emon, who had been one of the Nine Red Scabbards and Kozuki Oden’s retainers, along with Kozuki Momonosuke, who was Oden’s son, and brought them along for their journey. The pair had been transported 20 years into the future by Oden’s wife, Kozuki Toki, during the destruction of Oden Castle.
A major part of the Straw Hat and Heart Pirates’ alliance was the kidnapping of Caesar Clown to provoke both Doflamingo and Kaido, who needed the scientist’s skills in creating Artificial Devil Fruits known as SMILEs. On reaching Dressrosa, which had become Doflamingo’s territory, the group destroyed the SMILE factory and defeated the Warlord, eventually setting sail to Zou. At the home of the Mink Tribe, the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance was officially formed as Momonosuke asked the pirates to aid him in his quest to free Wano from Kaido and Orochi’s clutches.
Luffy, Nami, Chopper, and Brook then went to Whole Cake Island to rescue Sanji — who had been taken there as part of his marriage to Charlotte Pudding, arranged by the Vinsmoke Family to forge an alliance with the Big Mom Pirates. Simultaneously, Zoro, Usopp, Robin, Franky, Law’s Heart Pirates, and the samurai headed to Wano to begin preparations for their offensive against Orochi.
The Raid On Onigashima
Despite Luffy’s initial defeat against Kaido and eventual imprisonment in the prison in Wano’s Udon region, the alliance continued to rally support and devise means to overthrow Kaido while the Straw Hat captain trained for his upcoming battle against the Emperor. He also encountered Eustass Kid of the Kid Pirates, who reluctantly joined the alliance’s effort to take down Kaido, as he had also been defeated and imprisoned by Kaido before the Straw Hats’ arrival in Wano.
Eventually, the alliance selected the night of the Fire Festival in the Flower Capital of Wano, to carry out a raid on Kaido’s fortress in Onigashima, where there would be a massive party to commemorate his alliance with Big Mom, formed to take on the World Government and claim the One Piece. The lengthy battle that ensued saw Kanjuro of the Nine Red Scabbards kidnap Momonosuke and reveal himself to be a member of the Kurozumi family as well as a spy for Orochi.
Conversely, X-Drake, one of Kaido’s Tobiroppo, betrayed the Beasts Pirates and joined the alliance, revealing himself to be a Marine Rear Admiral and captain of the secret unit SWORD, who left the navy to infiltrate Kaido’s forces. Additionally, Izou and Marco of the former Whitebeard Pirates also joined fight on the alliance’s side, along with Yamato, who was Kaido’s son, playing a vital role in the effort to overthrow Kaido.
In the climactic finale of the raid, Trafalgar Law and Eustass Kid teamed up to defeat Big Mom, as Kaido’s subordinates were comprehensively beaten by the Straw Hats, including King and Queen, who faced defeat at the hands of Zoro and Sanji respectively. Finally, Kaido himself was beaten by Luffy, who achieved Gear 5 and awakened his Devil Fruit, which was revealed to be a Mythical Zoan known as the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.
Disbandment And Legacy
The alliance’s comprehensive victory was a death knell for the Beasts Pirates’ reign of terror over Wano, as well as Kaido’s New Onigashima Project, effectively returning power to Momonosuke, who was the rightful shogun descended from the Kozuki Family. This victory made good on Oden’s wish for his retainers to overthrow Kaido following his execution, giving the Kozuki Family and their supporters the revenge they had sought for two decades, and ensuring that the sacrifices of Oden, Toki, and many others had not been in vain.
Moreover, the alliance’s victory also marked the beginning of the prophecy that Oden had heard on his visit to Laugh Tale with the Roger Pirates. Luffy, not wanting to take credit for the victory, asked Momonosuke to refrain from giving his name to the public, which resulted in him being known throughout the land as “Joy Boy.” Luffy and Buggy replaced Kaido and Big Mom among the Four Emperors of the Sea, marking the start of a new era. All the Straw Hats, along with Kid and Law received substantial increases in their bounties, in accordance with the role they had played in the raid. With their objectives fulfilled, the alliance disbanded, with each of the Worst Generation crews going their separate ways, as the people of Wano began rebuilding their nation.
