The Straw Hat Grand Fleet is one of the biggest pirate forces on the seas of the One Piece world currently. This force has not been actively seen in the recent arcs of One Piece, however, fans have been wondering about their involvement in the plot and now that the story is in the Final Saga, the involvement of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet could come at any time.
Currently, One Piece is in its Egghead Island arc and one of the biggest events, the Egghead Incident, is about to take place. With countless opportunities for the Straw Hat Grand Fleet to insert themselves, the Egghead Incident could prove to be the very best one so far.
What Is The Straw Hat Grand Fleet?
The Straw Hat Grand Fleet is a self-proclaimed fleet created by powerful pirates who have come to love and respect Luffy for the person that he is. This fleet was formed at the end of the Dressrosa arc, thanks to the combined forces of the many Colosseum fighters who fought with and against Luffy to win the Mera Mera no Mi. As the story of the Dressrosa arc progressed, Doflamingo’s role as the primary antagonist of the arc became very clear. Essentially, Doflamingo wanted to get rid of every single pirate that had fought in the Colosseum and, for that reason, everyone ended up joining their forces together and rebelled.
Luffy led the rebellion and eventually, everyone entrusted defeating Doflamingo to him. Seeing how hard Luffy fought to save every life on the island, including those of his enemies, the various powerful figures, including pirates, who fought on the island ended up swearing an oath of loyalty to Luffy. Luffy did not technically accept the creation of the Grand Fleet since it would cripple his style and freedom, however, the fleet captains were free to do as they liked and, that is precisely why they ended up becoming the Straw Hat Grant Fleet anyway. Just as Luffy has his freedom, his fleet has theirs as well.
The Role Of The Straw Hat Grand Fleet
The Straw Hat Grand Fleet is surely going to play a major role in One Piece and that isn’t something that fans expect them to do without any reason. In fact, at the very end of the Dressrosa arc, the Straw Hat Grand Fleet drank sake and swore to serve Luffy for the rest of their lives. Immediately after, as they held a great banquet with the Straw Hat Pirates, the narrator took over and mentioned that the Straw Hat Grand Fleet would become very important in the future of the story.
According to the narrator, this grand fleet would one day come into play and shake the entire world. He also mentioned that each captain of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet would sail on their own adventures and grow in strength slowly over time. This is because, at the end of Dressrosa, they were not all that powerful, although some of them were world-renowned. Some other members of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet certainly needed more strength as well as recognition. In fact, even the stronger ones, such as Cavendish and Bartolomeo, needed to be stronger to be part of an able Yonko fleet. As such, since the end of Dressrosa all the way to now, all members of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet should be expected to have grown tremendously powerful, as this is a statement coming from the narrator himself.
Furthermore, the narrator went on to say that in the future, the members of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet would then take part in an event of historic proportions that would have huge repercussions in the One Piece world. Of course, the day that Doflamingo fell was not that day and fans would have to wait for that to unfold in the future of the story. Now, One Piece is in its Final Saga and that only means the day for the Straw Hat Grand Fleet to become useful is very near. In fact, currently, the Straw Hat Pirates are facing a massive war on Egghead Island and it could very well be the case that the Straw Hat Grand Fleet ends up making their appearance.
The Egghead Incident
Currently, one massive event that Oda is throwing all focus on is the Egghead Incident, which is all set to take place on Egghead Island. Oda has been teasing the Egghead Incident for quite a while now and it is pretty clear that this incident is going to be one of massive proportions and will engulf the world in flames. According to Oda himself, the aftermath of the Egghead Incident is going to shake the entire world and, judging by the looks of it, this incident could be the very biggest that the fans will see after the Paramount War.
As some fans might remember, during the Paramount War, the Whitebeard Pirates and their 43 ally ships fought against the 100,000 marine men including their strongest Admirals as well as Garp and the Fleet Admiral. The Egghead Incident is shaping to be somewhat similar. There is a fleet of 100 ships that is currently approaching Egghead Island and it is led by Admiral Kizaru. With him is one of the Five Elders, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn. Furthermore, there are nine Vice Admirals with them and a total of 30,000 men as well. This is a huge fleet and added to this is the fact that Saturn could possibly control the 50 Pacifistas and the Seraphims on the island. If that were to be the case, the Straw Hat pirates would then find themselves in a very precarious situation.
Strong as the crew is, they cannot fight back against such power all by themselves. Naturally, the Straw Hat Pirates need more help to fight back against such a massive force. This is precisely where the Straw Hat Grand Fleet could come in. The biggest obstacle for the Grand Fleet to make it to Egghead Island is time. However, it must be kept in mind that Luffy being on Egghead Island has been in the news for quite a while. The Navy itself has been aware of Luffy taking over the island for a very long time now, which means all the Grand Fleet Captains would also have had enough time to find out about this incident and potentially make their way to Egghead Island.
Furthermore, if the Grand Fleet Captains departed on time, they could perhaps make it to Egghead in one piece and join Luffy in the fight against the Marines and the World Government. If that were to be the case, then this war is going to be incredibly massive and could very well see the Navy fleet be utterly destroyed and Saturn be defeated as well. That would certainly be one of the incidents that could shake the entire world of One Piece to its very core and something that Oda previously teased.
Fans would absolutely love to see how powerful the Grand Fleet Captains have gotten since the last time they saw them. Oda himself mentioned that they will continue to train and grow in strength until they become admirable pirates so there is a lot of expectation on them. This is especially true for the top tiers, such as Cavendish, Bartolomeo, and Don Sai. Regardless, the Straw Hat Grand Fleet could end up playing a massive role here and fans are already looking forward to it.
