One of the most important plot points in One Piece, the Ancient Weapons are going to be central to the Final Saga. Just recently, Ancient Weapon Uranus was seen being used to wipe out the kingdom of Lulucia, and as fans know Poseidon has already been revealed in the form of Shirahoshi. That leaves behind Pluton, which still remains to be a mystery, despite being the first of the Ancient Weapons to be Introduced in the story.

With Elbaf revealing massive lore about the First and the Second World to the fans in One Piece, the Ancient Weapon Pluton is, once again, a very important element that fans want to discuss. Of course, there are many ideas out there about what Pluton truly is, but according to the recent clues, and some that were left behind long ago, Pluton may well end up being a Giant whale.

- Crocodile Sought Pluton To Further His Own Goals
The Ancient Weapon Pluton has already played a very important role across a few arcs of One Piece, despite not having been fully unveiled. The first mention of Pluton came during the Arabasta arc, where Crocodile was looking to get his hands on it. According to Crocodile, Pluton was a massive ship sleeping somewhere in the kingdom of Arabasta. He also mentioned the legendary power of the Pluton, claiming that a single shot from the weapon was strong enough to vaporize an entire kingdom. Thankfully, Nico Robin didn’t mention the location of the Pluton To Crocodile, and after his defeat to Luffy, he was arrested.
Within the earth there was fire. Mankind succumbed to greed and touched the forbidden sun. The enslaved prayed, and the Sun God appeared. The Earth God raged, and with its Serpent of Hellfire, shrouded the world in death and darkness. And they will never meet. — The First World
In the Water 7 Arc of One Piece, the Pluton became relevant once again. This time around, it was revealed that Franky held the blueprints for the Pluton, which was passed down to him by the shipbuilders of Water 7, specifically Tom. The weapon was also revealed to have been built on Water 7 long ago, further attaching its importance to the shipwrights.
Thankfully, in the Enies Lobby Arc, the blueprints for the Pluton were completely wiped out by Franky, which means that unless Franky has memorized the blueprints, the weapon cannot be built anymore, and that only the original exists. In the Wano Country arc, it was revealed right at the very end that the Ancient Weapon Pluton is in the Kingdom. The weapon is said to sleep under the old Wano, and the true meaning of opening the borders of Wano essentially means to tear down the walls of the country and unleash the Ancient Weapon, as that will let it loose. That’s all that the story has told the fans absolutely the Ancient Weapon Pluton, but there are many other hints here and there that essentially indicate what this weapon truly is.
Why Pluton May Be A Giant Whale
Pluton Could Be Very Different From What Fans Expect
On the surface, the idea of the Ancient Weapon Pluton being a whale might look ridiculous, but it definitely makes sense when one looks deeper into it. The first thing that fans need to know is that the Ancient Weapons in One Piece are not necessarily all true weapons. Shirahoshi, for example, is a mermaid. Fans haven’t seen Uranus yet, but it, along with Pluton, can both be living creatures as well. But, of course, being Ancient Weapons, some sort of technology has to be in use, which suggests some level of engineering attached to the weapons. For instance, the Ancient Weapon Uranus was powered up by a bit of the Mother Flame that was stolen from Vegapunk by York and sent to the World Government. Similarly, the same mother flame could also be used to power up the Pluton, in one way or another.
Regardless, what can be established is that even if Pluton is a ship, per se, it can still be a whale. A great example of this could be Laboon. Despite being a real whale, Laboon was engineered by Crocus on the inside, so much so that there are tunnels, and even a house and a sea inside Laboon. Laboon having a complex mechanical structure inside essentially confirms that a battleship can be created using a whale as well.

Curiously enough, Oda himself has personified Pluton on multiple occasions in the story. When Franky and Iceburg first looked at the blueprints, they called Pluton “a beast.”
Is it even possible to build a beast like this? — Franky
Similarly, in the Wano arc, Pluton was said to be “sleeping” under the land of Wano. If Pluton was a regular battleship, having been sunk would’ve meant that it was no longer functional, but breaking the walls of Wano would clearly unleash Pluton on the world, according to Sukiyaki.
On top of all this, Oda could very well have dropped hints about Pluton being a whale himself. For instance, one character who fans know is close to Pluton is Franky, and in the Zou arc, he is seen with a whale haircut. This is the same arc where the Giant Whale Tree is revealed to the fans by the allies of the Ancient Kingdom. While on the surface, it is just another free, the fact that it looks like a whale is too specific.

If the idea of Pluton being a whale seems to be random, then fans should consider this. Laboon, as a whale, often bashed its head against the Red Line. While Laboon wanted to reunite with the Rumbar Pirates, what if there was a deeper reason. After all, the many Blue Whales that fans saw in the New World all have the same scars on their heads. Clearly, the whales of the One Piece world bash their heads against the Red Line…almost as if to accomplish something great, or some duty they were passed on with. What if this duty itself finds its roots in the Great War that was fought during the Void Century? The dream clearly connects with tearing down the Red Line, but no whale can actually accomplish such a monstrous mission—that is, unless the whale is powered by the energy of the Sun, or, in other words, is an Ancient Weapon. Perhaps, the end goal of Ancient Weapon Pluton is to destroy the Red Line and free the world, which would also lead to the creation of the All Blue.
To make things even crazier, One Piece chapter 1138 introduced fans to a mural that showed the First and the Second Worlds. On the left side, one can clearly see Joy Boy leading all his allies into battle, and among the allies is also…a big whale that is carrying two people, one of whom is likely Momonosuke.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1139, is set to be February 9, 2025.
