A new The Mandalorian and Grogu plot rumor has surfaced, potentially providing insight into what Jeremy Allen White’s Rotta the Hutt has been doing since his appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
The Mandalorian and Grogu recently wrapped production and alleged plot details have gradually leaked in the ensuing weeks. Last December, fans learned Allen White joined The Mandalorian and Grogu cast as Rotta the Hutt, who first appeared as a baby in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated feature film. The now-adult (presumably) Rotta the Hutt reportedly plays a key role in The Mandalorian and Grogu plot, and the latest story rumor reveals the character has a surprising “job.”

Does Rotta the Hutt Have a Job in The Mandalorian and Grogu?
Bespin Bulletin reports that Rotta the Hutt will be a gladiator in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The online publication previously claimed Rotta the Hutt is buff in The Mandalorian and Grogu, and this new information would explain why the filmmakers opted to use this design when the Hutts are commonly depicted as large and not in the best shape. According to Bespin Bulletin, Rotta the Hutt will have facial scars, undoubtedly from his battles, and wields a weapon that the online publication believes is a vibroblade or vibrosword.
Bespin Bulletin also followed up on their previous report affirming Kristian Harloff’s claim that Embo the bounty hunter is The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s main villain. The online publication previously noted that while Embo was allegedly hired by the two Hutts from The Book of Boba Fett to “take out” Rotta, they had heard mixed information on who hired Din Djarin and Grogu to “capture” him. The New Republic was named as one of Din Djarin and Grogu’s potential employers, which Bespin Bulletin recently heard again from another source, leading the outlet to believe this is what happens.
It’s uncertain if Sigourney Weaver’s The Mandalorian and Grogu character (reportedly a New Republic colonel named Bishop) hires Din Djarin and Grogu. However, Bespin Bulletin notes that it seems like a possibility. Regardless of who recruits Din Djarin and Grogu, it is becoming clear that the search for Rotta the Hutt is the main plot of The Mandalorian and Grogu, which hasn’t exactly thrilled fans. The rumored plot is remarkably similar to the story for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated feature film, in which baby Rotta the Hutt is kidnapped as part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Count Dooku and Jabba the Hutt’s uncle Zira to incite conflict between the Republic and the Hutts.
If these plot leaks are true, some fans who believe Lucasfilm Chief Creative Office Dave Filoni deserves some blame for Star Wars‘ dire state might view these rumors as evidence that they’re correct. There’s an argument that the Star Wars shows for Disney Plus have leaned too heavily on Filoni’s previous works, The Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows. The first and much of the second season of The Mandalorian were largely standalone stories. But the series started introducing characters and revisiting storylines from Filoni’s past Star Wars projects more frequently, and some fans feel The Mandalorian was better when it was more of a standalone western-esque series. Now, nearly every Star Wars show is tied to the Filoni era, and fans hoping for a more original story are disappointed to hear The Mandalorian and Grogu may repeat an old plot.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 22, 2026.

The Mandalorian is set after the Empire’s fall and before the First Order’s emergence in the ever-growing Star Wars universe. The series follows the travails of a lone gunfighter named Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) in the galaxy’s outer reaches, far from the authority of the New Republic. Acting as the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian has become incredibly popular on Disney+, partly due to Mando’s relationship with Grogu, which the internet dubbed “Baby Yoda” upon his introduction in season 1.
