Season 2 of Solo Leveling is moving at a pace that makes it hard to keep track of everything. The new season is not only treating us with some incredible fighting sequences but also several new characters.
Within the first few episodes, the new season of the anime series introduced us to some incredibly powerful monsters and several mighty S-Rank and A-Rank Hunters. So far, the monster that caught everyone’s attention was, of course, the Ice Elf boss Baruka. However, another monster has taken center stage after Baruka. We are talking about Kargalgan, the boss that Jin-Woo had to defeat in Hunters Guild Gate.

In the manhwa, Sung Jin-Woo comes across Kargalgan on a high-tier A-Rank Dungeon raid. At the time, Jin-Woo was waiting for his S-Rank license, so for the raiding party, he was still an E-Rank Hunter. Jin-Woo was part of the mining team, and no one, including the A-Rank Hunters in the team, was aware of his true potential. Regardless, it was supposed to be an easy job, but things got ugly for the group when High Orcs showed up and killed several Hunters. Initially, Jin-Woo did everything in his power to hide his true powers, but things changed when Kargalgan, the leader of the High Orcs, came into the picture.
Unlike other Dungeon bosses featured in the series so far, Kargalgan was able to speak human language. He was powerful enough to strike down fear in his opponent, preventing them from moving their body. Kargalgan enjoyed slaughtering humans; however, unlike other monsters, the High Orc Shaman liked to torture humans before actually killing them.
After sealing the Gate’s exit, Kargalgan summoned the surviving members of the party, including Jin-Woo. Apparently, Kargalgan wanted to amuse his soldiers by toying with the humans and killing them one by one. Jin-Woo, carrying the supplies on his back, realized that this Dungeon Boss was too much for the strike team to handle. As expected, Jin-Woo took the matter into his own hands and summoned his Shadow Army.
You’re going to regret….looking down on me and my Shadows – Sung Jin-Woo to Kargalgan.
Kargalgan already knew that someone in this strike team was incredibly powerful. So, he wasn’t really surprised when Jin-Woo instantly killed a High Orc simply by lifting his finger. However, he was indeed startled by the fact that it was a human who possessed this much power. Jin-Woo’s Shadow Army killed several High Orcs, but they couldn’t kill all of them. Kargalgan was also confident that very soon, Jin-Woo would run out of mana, and his Shadow Army would stop regenerating. However, Jin-Woo pulled out the ace up his sleeve and added the dead High Orcs to his Shadow Army. At that point, Kargalgan realized that the one standing in front of him wasn’t any delusional or self-absorbed human; he was a Monarch.

During the fight, Kargalgan mentioned that he and the Orcs simply woke up in this Dungeon. Since then, they’ve been getting commands to “Slaughter humans.” However, he couldn’t understand why a Monarch was siding with the humans and fighting against the Orcs. Regardless, he had no choice but to fight Jin-Woo despite realizing that the enemy was far more powerful.
None of Kargalgan’s Curses worked on Jin-Woo, and the Orc Generals also faced defeat against Igris, Tank, and Iron. Kargalgan thought that by expanding his size, he could defeat Jin-Woo, but as the protagonist mentioned, growing in size only made Kargalgan an “easy target.”
Mr. Sung is currently clearing an A-Rank Dungeon all by himself. So this is what he is really capable of – Woo Jinchul.
Thanks to the Dungeon break, Hunter Association’s surveillance team and Cha Hae-In could also enter the gate. They thought that the people trapped inside the dungeon would need help to survive this threat. However, they were surprised to see Jin-Woo clearing a top-tier A-Rank Dungeon all by himself. Eventually, Jin-Woo defeated Kargalgan while his Shadow Army took care of the High Orcs. Not only did Jin-Woo level up after defeating Kargalgan, but he also managed to add Kargalgan to his Shadow Army. Since he couldn’t remember the real name, he named Kargalgan’s Shadow “Tusk.”

Tusk proved to be a great and one of the most powerful additions to the Shadow Army. He majorly acted as a mage during the fights and helped Jin-Woo by casting spells and curses on the enemies. In fact, in the Jeju Island arc, Tusk cleared out a massive number of Ants through his spell. In the end, Tusk turned out to be one of the top five Shadow Soldiers in Jin-Woo’s Army.
