With less than a month left before Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters, a recent ad featuring the film’s leading man might have accidentally given fans just the right outlook to settle one major concern about the project.
Captain America: Brave New World was always going to have it hard in the leadup to its release, and being the first theatrical release from the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the unreal success of Deadpool & Wolverine hasn’t made that any easier. Already struggling with the responsibility of establishing Anthony Mackie’s new Captain America firmly in this major role in the MCU, things looked even more bleak for the project as troubling new reports concerning the production of the fourth Captain America film surfaced once again close to release, echoing the same sentiments as several similar reports throughout the production cycle.

Fortunately, things are looking up for the project in the 11th hour with Captain America: Brave New World’s ticket pre-sales outpacing Marvel’s recent box office bombs, and now fans can set aside another potential worry ahead of release. Mackie’s Cap was on full display in a recent ad for American Family Insurance, which was posted to the official channel for Marvel Entertainment on YouTube and shows the new Captain America in pursuit of an enemy helicopter before peeling off to check on a family home in the range of falling debris from a construction site they’d flown through. The crux of the ad sees the family already safe and secure thanks to their home insurance serving as protection and sees Cap respond, “I like yours, too,” when one of the kids compliments his shield. While the ad has little to do with the upcoming film, it might have inadvertently given fans their best look at the new Captain America yet.
While, like the film itself, the ad didn’t feature a whole lot of Red Hulk to get people excited like the trailer did, it did a whole lot for Cap. Despite being only half a minute long all told, the ad features Mackie up-close while in flight and using his shield and then shows the hero in a clear full-body shot when he lands, as well as showing off his casual movements at the tail end beside the featured family. Despite not being the longest or most highly edited footage fans have been given, the way the ad was shot actually does a better job of showing off the new suit and how Mackie looks in it to legitimately satisfactory effects. This can be seen in the comments section, where many fans (who have no doubt seen the actual teasers and trailer for the film) express their good impressions of the outfit, with some actually stating that the ad offered a better look than the official promo material.
While concern over the reshoots, which Captain America 4 lead Mackie has come forward to address prior, dominated the conversation on the internet, a lot of fans also mentioned not being confident in the new look that the franchise was cooking up for the character. As a result of his training and fighting style as Falcon still very much being a part of him and not having the enhanced physicality granted by the Super Soldier Serum, Mackie’s Captain America can’t go against his foes with the shield alone. As such, the suit the character wears features a lot more in-built tech than the Steve Rogers version that Chris Evans made famous and even sported a less monochrome, monotone color palette in some earlier iterations. This raised some concerns about the way the full thing would look in a big-budget MCU film that could live and die on its visuals. These concerns, evidently, have now been addressed thanks to Marvel’s short online insurance ad.
With the way things are currently tracking, Marvel Studios can now be cautiously optimistic about the film succeeding at the box office and with at least a good portion of the fanbase. Comic book fans have never taken quite well when it came to making a clean break with their favorite legacy characters, even when they do have emotionally fulfilling passing-of-the-torch moments and walk off into the sunset with a happy ending. Only time will tell how long it takes for Mackie’s Cap to win over the more stubborn fans, but a good outing next month will certainly go a long way to speed things up.
