Can You Actually Survive
All of us, at some point in our lives, have imagined living in our favorite anime world. Having a chance to live out a life completely different and even become the cool hero that everyone loves is no less than a dream. However, it is also important to know that not every anime world is as warm and welcoming, and it might actually be a horrifying nightmare living in some of them. The one anime that seems no less than a living hell for many fans and beats every other title in this category is Attack on Titan or Shingeki No Kyojin.
The anime itself managed to pull in a huge fan base, and rightfully so, as it features a masterpiece of a storyline, well-written characters and top-tier animation. However, despite how popular it is, many fans hate the idea of actually being one of the characters in the Attack on Titan universe, and there are several reasons why.

Politics, Poverty, And A Lot Of Death

In Attack on Titan, you get to witness some of the coolest battles ever. Whether it’s the scouts fighting Titans using their ODM gear or the Titan shifters battling against each other, every action sequence is iconic. But it’s also no secret that Titans are super horrifying and are out on a bloodlust against humans.
We live in a world where the weak are eaten by the strong. The only thing we can do is fight – Eren Yeager
So, as cool as the battles might look, it’s not easy to live with the fear that a Titan over 15 meters tall might invade any time and crush you or, even worse, eat you alive. If you’re behind Wall Sheena, you might think you’re safe under the Military Police, but don’t be fooled asTitan Shifters could lure from anyhwhere and start up a devastating battle, making you a collateral damage.
The Never Ending War

Living in Shiganshina means you have to wake up every day with the fear that the walls might get breached at any time, that is, if you manage to sleep at all, thanks to the stress. If you have watched the anime, you know that the city is guarded by three walls: Maria, Rose and Sheena. Despite all the safety protocols, the walls do get breached at times, and it’s a bloody massacre.
This world is full of despair. The people who live in it are even worse – Levi Ackerman
While the war between Titans and humans is as cruel as it is in itself, there is a lot of politics going on between the walls as well, with citizens being sacrificed for the sake of authorities. There is no true freedom, and the living conditions are extremely poor. The scouts that are trained to protect civilians are constantly dying on missions. So it doesn’t matter if you are a civilian or a scout; death will always hover over your head in the world of Attack on Titan.

If perhaps you are the chosen one, you actually might survive. It definitely looks cool fighting Titans and slicing their nape with your advanced ODM gear or becoming a Titan yourself as a Titan Shifter, but there are a lot of responsibilities that come with power. As a scout, while soaring high up in the sky at great speed looks fun, you must be ready to sacrifice your life at any time in order to protect the civilians.
And if you manage to become a Titan shifter, you will have to sacrifice your humanity and also risk losing interaction with civilians because, well, you know how scary Titans can be. You might become a tool of the government, or maybe you will have to fight against it; either way, it’s definitely not an ideal situation. So even if you do manage to survive until the end, the amount of horrors you would have witnessed does not make it worth living as a character in the Attack on Titan world.
