Summary

  • Amadeus Cho, a genius intern in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, has a rich history in the Marvel Universe.
  • Cho becomes a hero known as Brawn after absorbing gamma energy from The Hulk.
  • While working with Peter Parker, Amadeus Cho could potentially transform into Hulk/Brawn or Iron Spider.

In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker meets many new friends as he joins as a freshman at Midtown High School. During his time in school, he eventually develops his well-known spider-like powers, and takes on an internship at Oscorp, where he meets a few new genius friends, as well.

Among the group of interns at Oscorp, Peter Parker meets Amadeus Cho, a student at Rockford T. Bales High School who eventually befriends Peter as they work together on experiments. However, Amadeus Cho has a long history in the Marvel Universe outside Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, as well.

What Is Amadeus Cho’s Background?

His Role in The Marvel Universe

Amadeus Cho made a brief introduction in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, as a fellow intern at Oscorp alongside Peter Parker. The two eventually become classmates as well at Rockford T. Bales High School. However, Amadeus Cho also has a long history in the Marvel Universe, particularly alongside The Hulk. He is considered to be one of the smartest people on Earth after winning the Excello Soap Company’s “Brain Soap” competition. The creator of this competition, Pythagoras Dupree, felt threatened by Amadeus’ intelligence, and repeatedly attempted to end his life, having also taken out his parents and sister.

Eventually, while Amadeus Cho is on the run, he is discovered by The Hulk, who saves him from Dupree’s men. Over time, Amadeus assists those around him as they battle enemies, and eventually takes on the role of the Prince of Power and the leader of the Olympus Group. As he works to search for Hercules, who has gone missing, he then finds himself in a situation where he absorbs Bruce Banner’s gamma energy and becomes The Hulk himself. He is also known as Brawn, a weaker and controlled version of The Hulk. He frequently collaborates with She-Hulk and Spider-Man, as they take on a multitude of enemies.

I am. They just don’t know it yet. — Peter Parker and Amadeus Cho

His history goes much further than this, becoming a major part of a multitude of teams, including the Champions and Agents of Atlas. While he was often presented as a sidekick to other heroes like Hercules and The Hulk, Amadeus Cho eventually became his own hero and surpassed even those before him, with incredible strength paired with his immense intelligence.

What Is His Relationship With Peter Parker?

Their First Meeting

Close

Not much is known about Amadeus Cho within the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man universe just yet, but Peter Parker first meets him when he arrives at Oscorp in season 1, episode 2, “The Parker Luck”. He comes from the Lower East Side of Manhattan, when the researchers first introduced themselves to Peter. He scolds Peter for being late, and Peter incorrectly assumes that Amadeus is the person in charge of the interns. However, he is a student just like Peter, and is eventually placed into the Robotics section of Oscorp. The two eventually go their separate ways in the second episode, as Peter moves into a different area of Oscorp to study.

Wow. Our destiny, huh? Someone should have told Pete here that. He might’ve shown up on time for it. You can call me Dr. Cho. — Amadeus Cho

Eventually, Peter returns to Oscorp with all the other interns, but is immediately taken into Norman Osborn’s office. As this is where the episode ends, there is not much else known about Amadeus Cho’s impact on the story and how close he will become to Peter Parker. However, based on the character’s history in other Marvel content, it is safe to say that he will likely be working alongside Peter in the future, whether its through research at Oscorp, or eventually as two new heroes. Although he is still very young at the beginning of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, there’s a chance he could eventually form into Hulk/Brawn, or Iron Spider, based on the direction the story decides to go. If he soon enough transforms into Hulk/Brawn, there’s a possibility he could team up with Peter to stop any enemies that appear in the city.
