Though some characters are simply musicians due to their own passions, other characters employ music as a tool for another sound-based power. But regardless of how it is used, when it comes to music, these characters are masters of the craft, always willing to charm the masses with their sweet sounds.

8 Vidaldus Taka (Fairy Tail)

Though he is introduced as Jellal’s well-mannered attendant, Vidaldus Taka later discards these traits for his actual, Gene Simmons-esque appearance. Naturally, his personality changes dramatically as well; he becomes far more wild, vivid, and lecherous, especially in his battle against Lucy and Juvia.

In battle, Vidaldus employs Guitar Magic, a type of sound magic that allows him to hypnotize his opponents and turn them against their allies. He also possesses Hair Magic, namely the ability to absorb any water-based spell cast his way, making him one of the more resilient villains during Fairy Tail’s Tower of Heaven arc.

7 Mio Akiyama (K-ON!)

Aside from Yui, the members of Hokago Tea Time are stunning musicians in their own right. But out of all of them, it is Mio Akiyama who is arguably the most popular among K-ON fans for her shy but mature demeanor and her knack for playing her bass guitar, which she has affectionately named Elizabeth.

Despite being very reserved, Mio is willing to step into more conspicuous musical roles, such as singing vocals. She is also a very talented songwriter, having written most of the songs in Hokago Tea Time’s repertoire. But true to her nature, Mio still considers herself to be a bassist at heart.

6 Akira Otoishi (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

At this point, everyone knows that there are music motifs everywhere in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Still, Akira Otoishi from Diamond is Unbreakable stands out as one of the few actual musicians in the series. Based on the Japanese vocalist Kenji Ohtsuki, Akira has shown himself to be very proficient at playing the guitar, even employing techniques such as right-hand tapping.

In addition to his skill with the guitar, Akira’s appearance also pays homage to the Australian rock band AC/DC due to the details on his jacket and the electrical nature of his Stand; in spite of this, Akira’s Stand is the electrifying Red Hot Chili Pepper, which allows him to absorb electricity and fry his opponents.

5 Nana Osaki (Nana)

The vocalist of the punk rock band Black Stones, Nana Osaki’s punk aesthetic belies her kind demeanor. Despite having endured many tumultuous life events, Nana still retains her desire to see her band succeed, even if the circumstances of her personal life take a turn for the worse.

As Black Stone’s frontwoman, Nana naturally has some knack for singing, having amassed a fan base in her hometown because of it. Fitting with the punk theme of both her appearance and band, her favorite band is said to be the English punk band The Sex Pistols, which may have served as the inspiration for the genre of music her band plays.

Out of the Sound Four, Tayuya was best known for her Demon Flute, which she used to control her Doki and cast her genjutsu, the latter of which grew stronger upon her reincarnation in Naruto Shippuden. The melodies of her flute would later be incorporated in the official Narutosoundtrack during the attempt to retrieve Sasuke.

First appearing during One Piece’s Thriller Bark arc, Brook is shown to be rather jolly and hilarious despite his skeletal appearance, much to the shock of the Straw Hat Pirates at the time. Before joining as the official Straw Hat musician, he was initially a part of the music-loving Rumbar Pirates.

As a musician, Brook is said to be proficient in a plethora of instruments, though he is mostly seen playing the violin before the time skip. After the time skip, Brook has switched to playing a fish-shaped guitar and has become a rock star with a new moniker: the Soul King.
