Summary
- Red Hulk’s role in “Captain America: Brave New World” may be limited to a single 4-minute action scene.
- Fans are criticizing Marvel’s marketing strategy of promoting a Red Hulk vs. Captain America showdown.
- The true villain of the film is The Leader, suggesting a more intellectual showdown instead of a physical one with Red Hulk.
The Captain America: Brave New World marketing largely focuses on one new MCU character. However, a new rumor suggests this does not reflect the character’s screen time in Captain America 4.
The Captain America: Brave New World promotional material has leaned on Red Hulk, the alter-ego of Harrison Ford’s President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Despite this prominence, the Captain America: Brave New World trailers and featurettes have seemingly featured Red Hulk footage from only one scene, leading most to assume the character’s involvement will be limited to a single showdown with Anthony Mackie’s titular hero. Now, a new rumor may confirm that fans should temper expectations for Red Hulk’s MCU debut.

How much screen time does Red Hulk have in Captain America: Brave New World?
Marvel Studios recently released a new Captain America: Brave New World featurette that included a single new shot of Red Hulk. Notable scooper Cryptic HD QUALITY responded on Twitter by sharing a GIF and the caption, “How Marvel feels after showing 1 second of Red Hulk every 2 or 3 weeks because he’s barely in the film.” A newer scooper with the username The Beyond Reporter also commented on the matter, claiming Red Hulk’s one action scene will only last 4 minutes.
Most fans aren’t surprised to learn Red Hulk’s screen time will be limited. But user @ButchBoi5 noted that they believe many people will leave the theater disappointed because Marvel Studios is marketing Brave New World as a Captain America vs. Red Hulk film when it’s “obviously not.” Some responses on Twitter indicate this prediction is correct, as a handful of users are dismayed by the news, with user @MauBoat arguing Red Hulk’s prominence in the marketing amounts to false advertising. However, user @Janno7 defended Captain America: Brave New World marketing Red Hulk and argued that the character is a main drawn considering he is played by Ford.
Of course, those who have been keeping up with the film already know Captain America: Brave New World‘s real villain is the Leader. Tim Blake Nelson reprises his role for the first time since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, which conclude with his character, Samuel Sterns, briefly shown transforming into the green-skinned supervillain. Causal moviegoers could be forgiven for not knowing The Leader is in Captain America: Brave New World. The character has been hidden in trailers and only fully shown in promotional art and merchandise.
Considering the Leader is expected to be more of an intellectual foe than a physical one, it’s understandable that Marvel Studios would want to use Red Hulk for Captain America: Brave New World‘s climatic finale. Watching Red Hulk and Captain America fight is arguably the more visually exciting of the two options, even though the Leader has telekenitc powers in the comics that could make for a thrilling showdown. Of course, Captain America: Brave New World underwent extensive reshoots as recently as November 2024, so it’s possible the information these scoopers have on Red Hulk’s role could have changed. There’s only 3 weeks left until fans find out.
Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
