Upper Moon 3, Akaza makes his first debut appearance during the Mugen Train Arc where he goes head-to-head with Kyojuro Rengoku. Before turning into a demon, Akaza was a strong martial artist but also like most demons in the Demon Slayer series was haunted by a depressing past. As a child the only crime Akaza comitted was to steal medicine to heal his dying father but was unable to do so, he also lost the ones he loved the most – his martial arts teacher Keizo and his daughter Koyuki who was also Akaza’s fiancée after a rival dojo poisoned their water well. This was Akaza’s turning point as he grew to hate humans. As a human, Akaza possessed a strong-willed personality and this carried on to when Muzan turned him into a demon after recognizing his strength.
Upper Moon 3
When Akaza was turned into a demon, he lost all his memories from when he was a human and turned into a killing machine. Since he was an expert martial artist, he was always ready for a fight and hated those who appeared weak. On the other hand he is also able to detect if his opponent is strong just by looking at them. Akaza was also constantly forcing Rengoku to join forces with him and become a demon during their battle. Since Akaza was also extremely determined in becoming the strongest upper moon, he despised his peers, upper moon 1 and 2, Doma and Kokushibo.
Even though Akaza claimed to have killed many demon slayers and Hashiras in his time, he also sets his own principles when it comes to whom he chooses to kill. He refused to kill women even though he knows that it could make him stronger. He also compliments his opponents in the heat of a battle if they are able to keep up with his attacks and respects their power.
Fighting Style And Demon Blood Art
Akaza is widely recognized as the demon who managed to kill the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku and would have also managed to kill Tanjiro and the rest of the demon slayers if the sun had still not come up forcing him to take cover. Thanks to his training as a martial artist and the fighting technique he learned known as Soryu Style when he was human, he was able to expand this power and enhance this technique when he became a demon. The Soryu Style revolves around a bare-fisted martial arts fighting style that uses the arms and legs of the user to execute powerful kicks and punches on an opponent’s weapon.
Akaza is also able to sense the fighting spirit of an opponent, this ability allows him to predict the attacks and figure out their weaknesses, this makes it even harder to land attacks on him as he is able to dodge the attacks because of his foresight. His extrasensory ability allows him to detect the location of his opponent and react fast enough to stop or dodge the attack, this gives him a tactical advantage over his opponents. Akaza also possesses extreme durability and regeneration capabilities, this is seen during his fight Rengoku as he was able to regenerate his sliced off arms and continue fighting without a moment’s hesitation.
As the Upper Moon 3 Demon, Akaza showcases insane levels of strengths and reflexes moving at lightning speeds. He is also able to continuously keep up the momentum during his fight and not tire easily. To give a better understanding of how powerful Akaza is, he was able to withstand and regenerate his sliced arm after Rengoku used one of his most powerful moves known as Rising Scorching Sun on him. He was also one of the few demons who was able to withstand Tanjiro’s powerful headbutt attack. The reason as to why Akaza is able to bear so much pain without even flinching is because before he turned into a demon he had grown numb to the pain of constantly being beaten when he was a child.
Using his blood demon art abilities, Akaza’s is able to use a technique known as Destructive Death, a mixture of the Soryu Style and blood demon art which allows him to use his kicks and punches to direct destructive shockwaves towards his opponents. Another Blood demon art technique he uses is known as Compass Needle, this technique gives him the ability to analyze his opponent in detail and figure out their weak points and exploit them, the stronger the opponent, the easier it is for the Compass Needle to detect possible weak points. Once a weak point is identified, he is able to land precision attacks on those weak points to weaken his opponent. One of the other unique capabilities of Akaza is that he is still able to fight even though his head is sliced off making him an extremely tough opponent to defeat.
Demon Slayer is available to stream on Crunchyroll, Funimation & Netflix.
