The fate of the new human civilization cannot be without obstacles indeed, but what will happen if two brilliant but opposite people try to create it to come true? Dr. Stone brings out an interesting ideological conflict between Senku Ishigami, the smartest character, and the strongest character, Tsukasa Shishio. It’s not simply about brawn against brains; it is about ideological warfare—the struggle about how the world should be reconstructed.
As a post-apocalyptic series of events, Dr. Stone relates the prospects of existence, the advancement of civilization, and governance from a more intriguing angle. The conflict lies in the fact that Senku expects the new world to be built with the use of science as the most important element, which, in return, Tsukasa believes only youth and strength have to be revived and erase all the sins of humanity. This laid the plot foundation for one of the greatest anime power struggles that has ever been depicted on screen.

Dr. Stone is a story centered around Senku, a teenage genius who is resurrected after human civilization gets turned to stone. On his own accord, in order to restore people and reintroduce civilization into the world, he takes up the mantle of science. But not everyone shares this opinion and here comes Tsukasa, a physically strong fighter, resurrected by Senku and his friend Taiju in the second episode.
Although initially appreciative of the situation, Tsukasa shows that he has his own belief system that ‘adults should be annihilated’ and only the young and strong should rule the world. This divergence of philosophy lies at the heart of the main problem of the story.

Senku is the protagonist who represents human advancement and rationality and who always believes in the utility of science. Being the hero that he is, he whips out his confidence at a ‘10 billion percent’ level and takes his job of saving humanity, using anything from chemistry to engineering to achieve this goal. He does not care, regardless of whether the person is young or old, physically fit or struggling, or has made some bad decisions in the past, so long as he or she is ready to learn. Whether it is hiring artisans to carve sophisticated tools or saving people’s lives, Senku is someone who fully understands and believes in collective intelligence.

Tsukasa, however, embodies the facility of the force and the principles of the survival of the fittest. Prior to his petrification, he was acknowledged as “The Strongest High School Primate” because of his superior fighting skills. When revived by Senku and Taiju, he saves them and joins their team but rejects the option to restore all the petrified people back to life, afraid of returning to the world that was once corrupt and greedy.
His solution? Only resurrect those individuals who are young and healthy, those individuals who have not been impacted by the oppressive regime of the past. To ensure this, he readily kills petrified adults, since he believes that annihilating them would help prevent another era entirely. However, he is not evil and his aim is actually good; his approach is ruthless and, as will be observed further, he relies more on the strength of his subordinates, which is a weakness on his part.

Rebuilding Civilization vs. Creating a New One
Senku and Tsukasa’s different ideologies and leadership come from how they view human beings in terms of history. This seems to be a worldview of Senku, and he is willing to accept that some mistakes were made, but through learning and growth, the future would be a better one. Tsukasa, however, has the attitude towards history that it is a cycle of corruption and has a vision that they must start anew to have a fair society. This leads to an entire war between the two factions—Senku’s Kingdom of Science, which supports the idea of knowledge and cooperation, and Tsukasa’s Empire, which stands for strength and survival of the fittest.
But the clash they have is not only physical but also political, as it comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Which of the two leaders’ viewpoints would be more applicable in real life? On one hand, Senku’s vision can be seen as a representation of concepts that are relevant to today’s civilization: progress is born of knowledge, cooperation or collaboration, and studying history. His actions make sure that none of the useful skills are wasted and the world progresses from being prehistoric.

But at the same time, Tsukasa has an understandable concern. As seen in the anime and in real-life cases, inequality and corruption deprived power, thereby bringing the downfall of civilizations. His desire to prevent that is understandable, but his selective revival process is also challenged. As proven by Hyoga’s betrayal, the Viking principle that might alone can establish stability in society is not sustainable. It then becomes evident that Tsukasa’s plan has its inconsistencies that bring about its failure in the long run.
The Power of Progress: Why Senku’s Vision Wins Out
Though Tsukasa’s point of view was not entirely wrong, in the end the series showed us that Kingdom of Science was the right way to go. Thus, the series actively emphasizes the notion of progression as the key to making life better and not regression. Unfortunately, Tsukasa’s plan has its flaws, where he tries to revive everyone somehow as a noble gesture, but that is subjective, because who determines who deserves to be revived? That’s not something one person can decide.
That is why fans love Dr. Stone, unlike some shows that depict the main characters’ opponents as black and white villains. He is an intricate individual who harbors only the best of intentions and dreams for society, albeit an unrealistic, fanatical one. In the end, science triumphs, and it makes one understand that the power of the brain is stronger than brute force.
